Trump's Second Term

Trump on two astronauts stuck in space: "Maybe they'll love each other, I don't know. But they've been left up there. Think of it. And I see the woman with the wild hair. Good solid head of hair she's got. There's no kidding. There's no games with her hair."
I wonder whose hair he thinks has "games" played with it.

So far, the resistance has been futile.

They could try sitting in their cars and bawling their eyes out making TikToks, that's kind of popular.
Just out of curiosity, what do you expect "the resistance" to do?

Democrats do not hold the white house, and are the minority party in both the house an senate. The supreme court weighted towards conservatives. Since the justice department is under the head of the Trump administration they aren't likely to act against hm. For the most part, "the resistance" holds little to no power.

For the most part, "the resistance" are doing what they can... Democrats in congress vote against various "problematic" republican bills. (Not useful in the house, but because of the fillibuster rule they can sometimes block things in the senate.) They bring in various court cases to block things like DOGE firings.

Yeah, its easy to mock things like "democrats dressed funny to mock Trump", but I doubt anyone was expecting it to be wildly successful.

The best that anti-Trump forces can do is keep voting against Trump-friendly legislation in congress and challenge certain actions in the courts. Build up their voting base for the 2026 midterms (although they are far enough away that the effects aren't going to be noticeable for a while). Perhaps they might want to get a more charismatic person to speak for them (Schumer isn't exactly a very exciting person.)

Or immediately said. As with my previous post about his claim that Honda is building a new plant in the US (which they've said is not so), anything that gets into his head that seems at the moment like a good thing to say, he just blurts out, without any consideration of whether it's a good idea or even true. I think Trump's basic characteristic is not just that he doesn't care about the difference between the truth and a lie, it's that he lacks the concept of the difference.

He literally said that at a campaign rally in his first run, that he just says stuff and if it lands he runs with it.

Well for one...considering recent events, holding open townhalls in various districts, with special focus on Republican districts, might help. Recent events with their own Repug representatives have probably left their constituents feeling abandoned. Might be a good opportunity for Dems to strike. So far only Tim Walz has come forward to do this.

Apparently Ontario is imposing a 25% tax on energy sold to the U.S. starting Monday. It’s already stopped selling U.S. liquor.

And now British Columbia is going to impose fees on truck traffic traversing its territory on the way to Alaska.

Bravo! My only concern is that Trump could see these as acts of war and use that as a pretense for military action against Canada.

Bring it on. We have about 3 feet of snow on the ground right now. This could be Trumps Stalingrad.

I'm glad Canada is staying the course even though Benedicte Donald is wavering 🇨🇦.

Yep, Dunning Kruger effect.

Actually democrats have already talked about doing this.

They have also been organizing people in republican town halls too.

In Canada vs US trade war news...

  • Trump's balls shrank another size today and he paused the tariffs on goods that qualify under the USMCA, meaning about 38% of imports from Canada will have tariffs paused until April 2. The rest remain tariffed. This will create utter confusion at the border.
...
  • Meanwhile Canada said "that's nice, our tariffs remain until you remove all of yours"
Yeah I don't think too many businesses will care about the "Pause".

The American trade deficit increased because companies started to buy stuff from foreign countries early before the tariffs took effect. I doubt any company will look at the delay, and say "oh the trade war is over". They will recognize that the "business jenious" that is Trump is going to eventually put the tariffs on anyways, regardless of what happens.

To this I'll just add to not forget about your local elections. The fed is going down, the states are next and in progress. State legislatures, executive and judiciary are likely affect your life as much or more than the fed, unless of course you're a federal worker or work at a building being sold. Worked my way trough college as a janitor. Always vote, at every election.

Trump: "We don't need Canada's lumber. So what I'm doing is I'll be signing an executive order freeing up our forests so that we're allowed to take down trees and make a lot of money and then re-harvest trees ... we don't need anything from Canada."

Good thing he gutted the EPA so no one can complain.
And, once again, it will take years to ramp up the logging and sawmills. If exports from Canada will resume in four years, is it worth the investment?

When do they give up on the US dollar as a significant global currency? Might have to check my international currency position.

ETA: Think I gots some yen somewhere.

67. DOOCY: Why do you think the markets are so spooked? Do you think they don't like the tariffs?
TRUMP: Well a lot of them are globalist countries and companies that won't be doing as well because we're taken back things that have been taken from us many years ago

68. Trump on NATO: "If the United States was in trouble and we called them. We said, 'We got a problem, France.' Do you think they're gonna come and protect us? Hmm. They're supposed to. I'm not so sure."

69. REPORTER: Are you gonna make it US policy that the US wouldn't defend NATO countries that don't pay their fair share?
TRUMP: Well, I think it's common sense. If they don't pay I'm not gonna defend them. No, I'm not gonna defend them.
REPORTER: Are you considering changes to NATO where if a country gets attacked but isn't paying enough dues, the US doesn't defend them?
TRUMP: Well I've said that to them. I said, 'If you're not gonna pay, we're not gonna defend.'

70: Trump on two astronauts stuck in space: "Maybe they'll love each other, I don't know. But they've been left up there. Think of it. And I see the woman with the wild hair. Good solid head of hair she's got. There's no kidding. There's no games with her hair."

The constant overreach and reversals ARE the strategy - it's what the only way to find out what will and will not trigger a backlash, and it's what Trump has done all his life. It's not vacillating, it's making other people do the work to figure out what and what not is worth fighting for.

The only reason why this works is because, no matter the outcome, Trump will be fine and never face any consequences for running other people's lives.

There is a deeper lesson here, and it is that law enforcement and prosecutors need to focus first and foremost on the harm done by the most powerful, not those with the least amount of power.

To be fair I saw a Democrat Mayor with one this morning too, admittedly hers was a bit of a smudge while his looks like Donnie did it with his Sharpie... I vaguely remember it being a thing over here when I was a kid but it's been decades since I've seen anyone with one.
When I was a young lad and still attending it was always a small smudge of a cross, often little more than a circle. The shape and length of the thing Rubio had on looks like he washed the smudge off and performatively applied his own.

America must be pusnished! In the speech Trump offered a vision of...Trump. A fat old golfer who hates America. America was mean to him!
That's why I'm fully of the opinion this is fuhrerbunker era for Trampy. Given his extreme narcissism, he'd have taken 2020 as a betrayal by the American people.
