Items like the Dunning-Kruger Effect and the Downing Effect refer to peoples' evaluation of their own abilties. I was referring to evaluating others' abilities, though the 2 are related.
 
Speaking of legal fictions, is there any rumbling yet of trouble steming from Trump stating outright in the State of the Union address that Musk is indeed in charge of DOGE?

Canada’s not playing fair, Lawson Whiting, chief executive of Brown-Forman, told shareholders on an earnings call Wednesday.

The LCBO, one of the world’s largest purchasers of alcohol, took U.S. liquor off shelves in retaliation against U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs, a “disproportionate response” that is “worse than a tariff,” Whiting said.

The move will also affect bars, retailers, and restaurants in Ontario, which will be unable to restock American alcohol brands because the LBCO is the sole seller for wholesale buyers.

In what seems like a lifetime ago, I marched in a Nixon “counter-inaugural”, and again in a bigger march against the Vietnam War.
In the latter, I played a very small role, helping coordinate buses arriving in D.C. and getting people to the march. Photo below is circa that era, and the fellow on the left is holding a bumper sticker for the march.

So, how about a “million man” (million-person?) march on Washington. Optics matter, and displays like this can and do sway public opinion - or at least put a face on “the resistance”. I’d bet we could get more than a million if properly promoted and organized. I’d do my best to attend.

OMG he's literally using the school bully line. Standing over people with his chainsaw and saying "What? I'm not touching you."
And Trump's not in any doubt, not only saying Musk absolutely is in charge of DOGE but adding if these depatments don't fire their own staff, Musk will fire them.

The original paper also studied participants' ability to evaluate others' performance. Study 3 phase 2 allowed top- and bottom-quartile performers from phase 1 to "grade" each other's performance in that phase. As expected, the bottom-quartile performers did not accurately evaluate either their own cohort's performance or that of the top-quartile performers.
