Trump's Second Term

In Canada vs US trade war news...

  • Trump's balls shrank another size today and he paused the tariffs on goods that qualify under the USMCA, meaning about 38% of imports from Canada will have tariffs paused until April 2. The rest remain tariffed. This will create utter confusion at the border.
  • Trump suddenly realized that they need our potash to fertilize corn and also carved out an exception for Canadian potash which will now have a 10% tariff like energy.
  • Meanwhile Canada said "that's nice, our tariffs remain until you remove all of yours"
  • Ontario slapped a 25% export tax on electricity flowing to the US
TL/DR Its a David vs Goliath battle and David is presently winning and making Goliath look like the world's biggest nitwit.

Good Lord what an absolute ◊◊◊◊ show. I manage my cat's litter box better than Trump manages his country.

There's a very simple reason for that: Trump IS the world's biggest nitwit. And Musk is a close second.

He is not fit. If a real crisis were to emerge, neither he, nor the sycophants that he surrounded himself with would be prepared to respond. I'm sure Putin realizes this.
It would be bad enough if they were just sycophants. His cabinet is composed exclusively of unqualified, degenerate impostors.

It's 20 years this year since Colbert coined the term, "truthiness".

The term seems even more apt now than it was then.

"Truthiness is tearing apart our country, and I don't mean the argument over who came up with the word ...

"It used to be, everyone was entitled to their own opinion, but not their own facts. But that's not the case anymore. Facts matter not at all. Perception is everything. It's certainty. People love the President [George W. Bush] because he's certain of his choices as a leader, even if the facts that back him up don't seem to exist. It's the fact that he's certain that is very appealing to a certain section of the country. I really feel a dichotomy in the American populace. What is important? What you want to be true, or what is true? ...

"Truthiness is 'What I say is right, and [nothing] anyone else says could possibly be true.' It's not only that I feel it to be true, but that I feel it to be true. There's not only an emotional quality, but there's a selfish quality."

After his State of Disarray speech, Trump was caught on a hot mic telling Chief Justice Roberts "Thank you again. Thank you again. Won’t forget it.”
Speculation has been rampant that he was referring to the decision that gave him immunity for everything he does.
Trump went on Untruth Social and insisted he was thanking him for doing a really good job swearing him in.

Personally, I'm surprised that he's physically capable of saying the phrase "thank you" to someone with any sincerity.
Actually the decision...which I think was a very bad one..does not grant him total immunity.
And the court just ruled against Trump on a issue.

You seem to be conflating the EU with NATO.

NATO has only been called on once by Article 5 and it was by the USA. NATO responded and supported the USA.

I don't see what point you are trying to make.
I'm not actually conflating the two. Are you familiar with the differences between Article 5 and Article 42(7) and the differences in required responses to aggression? With Article 5, armed response is optional whereas with 42(7) armed response is mandatory. If he isn't aware Putin will find out sure enough should he pivot to taking the Baltics.

Proof once again, as if we needed more, that Trump lies like breathing. Or honking, in his case. As we say here, he couldn't lie straight in bed.

I'm guessing that little-known country of The Baltics, anyone ever hear of that, didn't pay their share of NATO defense and come up to him with tears in their eyes saying "Sir!" and respect the USA and beg for help. So Trump ain't gonna come help them!

Apparently Ontario is imposing a 25% tax on energy sold to the U.S. starting Monday. It’s already stopped selling U.S. liquor.

And now British Columbia is going to impose fees on truck traffic traversing its territory on the way to Alaska.

Bravo! My only concern is that Trump could see these as acts of war and use that as a pretense for military action against Canada.

The "good" news about that concern is that if Trump decided to pretend that those are acts of war and use that as cause for military action against Canada, he was already set on manufacturing casus belli, so it wouldn't truly matter.

I have vague recollections of a survey taken a decade or so ago that found that Americans more than citizens of other nations tend to view confidence as evidence of competence (east Asians were the least likely to make that equivalency). I tend to blame churches for instilling the attitude that something is true if you believe it to be true; perhaps this is unfair.

I don't think "confidence" is the correct word there. More like 'bluster'.

Trump on two astronauts stuck in space: "Maybe they'll love each other, I don't know. But they've been left up there. Think of it. And I see the woman with the wild hair. Good solid head of hair she's got. There's no kidding. There's no games with her hair."
'In space no one can hear you sexually harass'. Seriously "I see the woman with the wild hair"?!?! Zero brains for zero G.
