Trump's Second Term

I'd rather be called a reasonable republican who hates the ground that the fat clown walks on.

I am politically very far from being "Conservative" in any sense, but in my opinion there is respectable, conservatism that is at least worthy of respect. Maga weirdos, racists and other loons disrespect a tradition that again in my opinion has a honorable history. Like racists they drag it into the mud and then **** all over it. I may disagree with "Conservatism" a great deal but I can have respect for it.

Hell I can even respect American Republicans who keep to that honorable tradition, and don't capitulate to idiot populism and frankly Cult of Personality stupidity.

So yeah I respect you. You are taking a hard road. Best of luck to you.

i don’t think the fort knox visits are a stunt. they’ll go, say there’s a problem with the gold. they want to go back to the gold standard, but there’s a problem with the gold. so we need a crypto reserve instead.

edit

what are the odds they say they checked it out and everything is great? it’s 0 right?

I have to wonder what "there's a problem with the gold" would do to the speculator bubble that's been driving up prices and feeding the enthusiasm of the goldbugs for years. Finally burst the bubble and restore prices to realistic levels? Drive prices even higher?

Good question.

As a matter of fact (unrelated of course), I often wonder what would happen if a cache of gold worth a billion-trillion dollars were ever found. What would that do the worth of gold all together?

There are various 'Conservative' ideals. For example, traditionally protecting wild lands was the purview of Republicans like Roosevelt. Under Trumpism there is zero respect for wilderness, Trump would gladly dismantle all public lands and turn them into golf courses for the rich. There is nothing 'Conservative' about his approach, which is now the official doctrine of the GOP.

From what I've read, gold is a finite resource (like fossil fuels) and becoming harder to find even with advanced technology. So probably an unlikely scenario. On the other hand, supposedly certain asteroids could have huge gold deposits, so maybe If Musk forgoes Mars in favor of grabbing some asteroid...
ETA: yep, its "16 Psyche that scientists believe contains over 700 quintillion dollars in gold"
ETA2: So for sure Musk & Trump will set their eyes on Psyche, for the name value alone!

There's only so much gold on Earth. It's an element, we can't create more. We only have what came out of the sun a bajillion years ago, plus whatever King Midas happened to touch during his little episode. Always a party with that guy.

right, there's a difference between conservative and republican even if the two are often used interchangeably. i don't think there's a difference between republican and trumpist or maga or whatever. republicans are a political party, the guys organizing and running the party comprise the party and work towards whatever goals they have. you can't really have one without the other imo, that's just an idealized version, wishful thinking. they are what they are.

Don't give Trump ideas. Next thing we know he'll be sending a team to Psyche to plant a flag in it and build a Trump hotel so he can claim it as his and he'd still somehow bankrupt it.

It's perhaps worthy of note that, at last check, multiple rather toxic groups have somewhat strategically arranged themselves under the "conservative" banner, to better influence others to achieve their goals. The toxic groups have now largely taken over, politically. I, too, can respect principled conservatives, while often disagreeing with them. Far, far too often, though, self-described conservatives are very poorly described as actually being conservative.

16 Psyche, for example? There's also something that can be said about treasure planets. Frankly, if we could beam Musk over to a treasure planet, I'd be quite willing to let him frolic among the riches for the rest of his life.

Like an isle of misfit toys but for billionaires that are destroying our country? I'd be game.

What’s the score card so far? If you believe the lefties we would have some kind of fascist dictatorship bending over for Putin and some crazy return of easily prevented disease. Instead, since merit was reintroduced to the executive branch, we see safe skies, cheap eggs, no measles, strong backing of allies around the world, Putin trembling in fear and retreating from Ukraine, and zero Nazi salutes.

Oh wait…

Of some note -

NASA asked Elon Musk SpaceX to mine the giant gold asteroid (16 Psyche) that could make everyone on Earth a billionaire; worth $700,000 quadrillion dollars

That headline made me laugh, admittedly, given how unrealistic it would be to think that 1) abundance wouldn't affect pricing and 2) that there's any realistic chance that the currently powerful would meaningfully allow everyone to become billionaires. Especially those like Musk.

Trump is currently calling the Ukrainian leader a dictator while his VP is calling that same leader a liar. So we're getting there. Give it another month and ask these same questions again. We can track it to see how it evolves.

This probably doesn't matter, but the Trump Media & Technology Group Corp. (DJT) stock is slowly going down the drain.

It started this month out at 30.82 and is now 26.99 at the close.

At the beginning of the year, it was at 34.02 and even went as high as 41.00 before it slowly started to tank, especially right after Jan 20th.

I think it was always going to tank and Trump was a bit shocked himself when it didn't immediately die. I'd bet that Trump thought getting re-elected would mean people would flock to the platform.

My theory is that Musk will "buy" Truth Social for some ridiculous price (way over value) from Trump, merge it with X, and put Trump in some form of high paid, no work position. Which will then be followed by many, many grants and projects being awarded to Musk's various companies. I'm assuming Tesla has already started R&D on an electric tank that looks phallic or something equally as dumb.
