Trump's Second Term

When everyone is a billionaire, no one is.
True, but we could just say 'filthy rich' for the sake of argument. That would pose its own interesting dilemma--how could we *all* have our own private planes and islands?? Unless maybe Musk completely starts terraforming all the planets, then...just maybe... ;)

About half of all the gold ever mined is sitting in various gold reserves.
It's pure speculation based on nothing that the price ever rises or fluctuates.
It has nothing to do with supply and demand

Donald announces Dan "Razin" Caine as new Cof the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Donald J. Trump
@realDonald Trump
I want to thank General Charles "CQ" Brown for his over 40 years of service to our country, including as our current Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He is a fine gentleman and an outstanding leader, and I wish a great future for him and his family.

Today, I am honored to announce that I am nominating Air Force Lieutenant General Dan "Razin" Caine to be the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. General Caine is an accomplished pilot, national security expert, successful entrepreneur, and a "warfighter" with significant interagency and special operations experience.

I thought it was the courts job to decide guilt or innocence and any punishment?

Patel: "Anyone that wishes to do harm to our way of life and our citizens, here and abroad, will face the full wrath of the DOJ & FBI. If you seek to hide in any corner of this country or planet, we will put on the world's largest manhunt & we will find you, & we will decide your end state. Not you"

Had any general/admiral ever come out of retirement to be the JCoF Chair, at least during peacetime?
Make sense now?

Also, from the Military Times:
Brown, who was the second Black chairman and the first Black officer to serve as a service chief, became a target for some commentators and lawmakers for his openness to diversity initiatives. Military Times article link

Of all Trump's picks, this guy might be the scariest in terms of how unhinged he is compared to the power he holds. Maybe I'm naive but I really want to think that dedicated FBI people will not want to carry out some of his more deranged schemes.

The interesting thing is it's one of the jobs of the FBI to keep tabs on people expressing anti-American views. Unfortunately in this context, "anyone that wishes to do harm to our way of life and our citizens" could far too easily become "anyone who speaks out against President Trump or Elon Musk." That's the scary part.

I'll be calling our GREAT American Hockey Team this morning to spur them on towards victory tonight against Canada, which with FAR LOWER TAXES AND MUCH STRONGER SECURITY, will someday, maybe soon, become our cherished, and very important, Fifty First State.

I will be speaking before the Governors tonight in D.C., and will sadly, therefore, be unable to attend. But we will all be watching, and if Governor Trudeau would like to join us, he would be most welcome.

Good luck to everybody, and have a GREAT game tonight. So exciting!

PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP

As a Canadian, I find Trump's continued insults to our Prime Minister by referring to him as "Governor" and his assertions Canada will become the 51st state to be very grating. The man has no class. The more Trump keeps this up, the fewer Canadians will even consider the idea of joining the United States.

As of the close of the day on February 21, my positive/negative score on the Trump administration stands at -174.

21 February 2025
-1: Trump appears to be tired of hearing Russia invaded Ukraine [45]
-1: Kash Patel calls for “offensive operations” to jail Americans who they consider “the enemy”—including the media. [46]
-1: Memorandum: Defending American Companies and Innovators From Overseas Extortion and Unfair Fines and Penalties

Added to February 20:
-1: Trump yet again insults Justin Trudeau by referring to him as "governor" [43]
-1: WH Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt echos Trump's "51st state" insult [44]

Footnotes:

43. 44. Karoline Leavitt: "The President looks forward to watching the game tonight, and we look forward to the United States beating our soon-to-be 51st state, Canada."

45. Trump: "You have a man who has let a country that had the more beautiful cities. They're demolished. Had the most beautiful domes."
Kilmeade: "But that's Russia's fault though, Mr President..."
Trump: "1,000 year old domes. And everything is demolished. It's sorta like Gaza"
Kilmeade: "That's Putin's fault."
Trump: "I get tired of listening to it."

46. Kash Patel, new director of the FBI, calls for “offensive operations” to jail Americans who they consider “the enemy.” (Patel): “We will go out and find the conspirators... Yes, we are going to come after the people in the media”

Presidential Memorandum: Defending American Companies and Innovators From Overseas Extortion and Unfair Fines and Penalties

The memo basically says countries acting in their own interests to reign in American companies doing business within their territories will be the target of sanctions. Again, this is Trump acting like a bully: "You let me do whatever I want to do or you'll be sorry."
Reminds me of Napoleon's Continental Blockade of Britain, though it could very well backfire badly on the US.

It's meant to be inflammatory, and it succeeds if you respond to it in any way. It's just "triggering the libz" and is childish in the extreme. Ignore him - it's all just so much talk.

Of some note -

NASA asked Elon Musk SpaceX to mine the giant gold asteroid (16 Psyche) that could make everyone on Earth a billionaire; worth $700,000 quadrillion dollars

That headline made me laugh, admittedly, given how unrealistic it would be to think that 1) abundance wouldn't affect pricing and 2) that there's any realistic chance that the currently powerful would meaningfully allow everyone to become billionaires. Especially those like Musk.
