Trump's Second Term

Granpa can't remember how to get Caps Lock off his computer...

This is quite possibly not Trump personally. It has consistent grammar and spelling and punctuation. He even used the word "compassionate" spelled correctly - definitely unTrumpian. It's far too long for Two-Thumbs Trump on a phone screen, because he would have lost concentration after about the first sentence. And I'm surprised he didn't end it with "THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION IN THIS MATTER".

This is likely an attempt at a distraction from the rambling shambles of a wreck that was Trump's Memorial Day speech at Arlington. And it hasn't worked. This is just the putrid feces icing on that rotten cake of crap.

As of the close of the day on May 26, my positive/negative score on the Trump administration stands at -713.

26 May 2025

-1: Headline: Donald Trump Shares Post Calling Biden a ‘Decrepit Corpse’ (Newsweek) [261]
-1: Trump writes (and then deletes) a factually-challenged Memorial day rant [262]
-1: Trump attacks Harvard University in a social media post [263]
-1: Trump makes an incredibly self-centred comment during a Memorial Day speech at the Arlington National Cemetery [264]

References

261. Trump: “They stole the 2020 election and hijacked the country using a decrepit corpse as a frontman. They used an autopen to start wars, steal from our treasury, and pardon their friends. Arrest those responsible and charge them with TREASON.”

262. Trump: “HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY TO ALL, INCLUDING THE SCUM THAT SPENT THE LAST FOUR YEARS TRYING TO DESTROY OUR COUNTRY THROUGH WARPED RADICAL LEFT MINDS, WHO ALLOWED 21,000,000 MILLION PEOPLE TO ILLEGALLY ENTER OUR COUNTRY, MANY OF THEM BEING CRIMINALS AND THE MENTALLY INSANE, THROUGH AN OPEN BORDER THAT ONLY AN INCOMPETENT PRESIDENT WOULD APPROVE, AND THROUGH JUDGES WHO ARE ON A MISSION TO KEEP MURDERERS, DRUG DEALERS, RAPISTS, GANG MEMBERS, AND RELEASED PRISONERS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD, IN OUR COUNTRY SO THEY CAN ROB, MURDERER, AND RAPE AGAIN — ALL PROTECTED BY THESE USA HATING JUDGES WHO SUFFER FROM AN IDEOLOGY THAT IS SICK, AND VERY DANGEROUS FOR OUR COUNTRY.”

263. Trump: “Why isn’t Harvard saying that almost 31% of their students are from FOREIGN LANDS, and yet those countries, some not at all friendly to the United States, pay NOTHING toward their student’s education, nor do they ever intend to. Nobody told us that! We want to know who those foreign students are, a reasonable request since we give Harvard BILLIONS OF DOLLARS, but Harvard isn’t exactly forthcoming. We want those names and countries. Harvard has $52,000,000, use it, and stop asking for the Federal Government to continue GRANTING money to you!”

264. Trump: “We have the World Cup and we have the Olympics. Can you imagine, I missed that four years and now look what I have, I have everything. Amazing the way things work out. God did that”

-1: Vice-president Vance calls out universities as bastions of liberalism [260]
-1: Trump says no one wanted to join the military under Biden—while talking to a class at West Point who did just that!

Reference

260: Vance; “There is an extraordinary “reproducibility crisis” in the sciences, particularly in biology, where most published papers fail to replicate.
“Most universities have massive bureaucracies that inhibit the translation of basic research into commercial adoption.
“The voting patterns of university professors are so one-sided that they look like the election results of North Korea.
“And on top of all of this, many universities explicitly engage in racial discrimination (mostly against whites and asians) that violates the civil rights laws of this country.
“Our universities could see the policies of the Trump administration as a necessary corrective to these problems, change their policies, and work with the administration to reform.
“Or, they could yell “fascism” at basic democratic accountability and drift further into irrelevance.”

Perhaps they've trained an AI to write like Trump. It has to sound like a stupid maniac, of course, to stay on-brand, but being software it will spell all the words correctly. (Ironically an AI capable of misspelling would have to be more advanced than one that can't misspell.)
Actually not all that unlikely.

Artificial Stupidity?

President Donald Trump delivered the commencement address at West Point on Saturday: "The job of the U.S. Armed Forces is ... to spread democracy to everybody around the world at the point of a gun. The military's job is to dominate any foe and annihilate any threat to America, anywhere, anytime, and any place."
Don't know if this has already been quoted, but wow. Epic condescension based on an assumption of superiority stemming from exactly what Trump's USA does not represent. Free dumb on the march!

Yeah, I agree with that transcript. Those were the words he actually said (i.e. the "but" version) but I'm convinced by the context that he intended to say it was not the army's job to spread democracy at the point of a gun.

Not that he thinks freedom and democracy are a bad thing, but he resents being expected to pay for anyone else's freedom or democracy.

It's Trump, who knows what he intended? You just have to go with what he actually said, otherwise we're in Bubblefish OS 012 territory and he can claim that what he said means whatever he wants it to mean.

If he wants to issue a correction, and say that he actually meant "or", not "but", I'll happily accept that, but if there's no correction I'll go with what he actually said rather than the spin.

I dunno, I'd listened and heard 'or'. Or fits better with the sentence structure too, the 'but' is unspoken and is between the sentence saying what the military is not, and the sentence saying what it is.

I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on the "or/but" business here, because he's so dumb, demented and wrong in so many other ways we don't have to stretch to find more. On the other hand since it's quite likely that the speech was written by someone else, that Trump didn't understand it and said what he would have meant rather than what his handlers meant, or that, in his characteristic "say anything and deny it if it doesn't go well" mode, he changed it on the fly.

But I think we can presume what the speech, which wasn't all that good in any form, was meant to say, and imagine at least the possibility that the problem is just poor audio or mumbling, and get back to the things we are entirely certain are stupid, dangerous and wrong, of which there are, after all, quite enough.

... the 'but' is unspoken ...

I do wonder if maybe we listened to different recordings.

Anyway, the bottom line is probably whether Trump thinks that's the US army's job or not. i.e. Is Trump an interventionist who would use the US military to impose democracy on other countries? I say no he absolutely is not. Everything he says about foreign policy reeks of his resentment at the US having to pay a cent for anything except in its own immediate self-interest.

History suggests that the U.S. is more likely to impose dictatorships than democracy. "They may be sons of bitches but they're our sons of bitches."

It makes sense if one takes "democracy" to mean today's autocracy in democratic trappings. Trump certainly is enamored of that and is actively promoting it. Goes hand-in-hand with inviting Putin to invade Europe.
