Trump's Second Term

Well, in the UK we have a big parade every year on the Monarchs 'official' birthday when detachments of the Guards Regiments parade their Colours and the monarch travels in a carriage escorted by Cavalry to the Horseguards parade ground off Whitehall.

It's a big thing, it's televised live every year.

Last years event, edited highlights, the Irish Guards colours were paraded last year.

Plus, every day the Guards at Buckingham Palace and St James' Palace are changed every day and the new guard marches form the barracks with a band and the 'old guard' marches back.

One of my colleagues from medical school was appointed medical officer to one of the household cavalry regiments. (She was very posh and very horsey.) She was the first woman officer to ride with the regiment. She spent a great deal of time sharing with us about designing her dress uniforms, including her riding uniform and whether she would ride side saddle (she didn't). Although technically in the RAMC she had to have a guards cavalry officer uniform, with red tabs as RAMC (which differ in some mysterious military way from the red tabs of general staff).

I like the way the Princess Royal challenges tradition and rides with her brother's guards rather than in a carriage.

Historically the household guards were the king's bodyguards (think of the secret service for POTUS), when England had no standing army. They were both soldiers and not soldiers. The army was otherwise part time militia.
She's the Colonel of the regiment.

Various Regiments have the 'freedom' of various cities and are allowed to parade with their colours unfurled and their bayonets fixed.

Always popular

Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders March through Canterbury

Having gone to school and college and then having worked in Canterbury I can say that this crap was phenomenally annoying.

Canterbury high street is pedestrianised, has been for decades, but these things always start outside the pedestrianised area. In this example they are marching from the West Station (railway) to the West Gate (medieval entry on the site of a Roman entry). This is already a horribly congested area, being the main way into the city from the north West. This 2-3 minute extention to their march leads to road closures and bus diversions/cancellations for hours. They could easily confine their route to the pedestrianised streets (which is 90+% of the route anyway), and not ◊◊◊◊ things up for everyone else, but they never do because they want to reenact the marching through the Westgate bit from Powell & Pressburger's A Canterbury Tale.

Also, the recorder's "Oi" at the guy that has the temerity to walk across his shot is depressingly familiar. There was one time when I was berated by a vlogger for standing at a bus stop about 10 yards away from there.

How would you feel about such a parade "in your honor"?
Would you have pride in being able to "show off" in your finest uniform, highlighting your equipment?
Or would you be annoyed, thinking it was more of a distraction, getting viewed as a "dancing monkey", and would prefer something more low-key (maybe they can just give everyone a couple of days leave to celebrate).
My group of four led off the Marine Corps Birthday Celebration Parade in 1979 at Camp Pendleton. That was quite an honor. I wish video recording was a thing at the time because I'd sure like to see it.
Thanks for that. I really didn't know how actual service-men feel about such events.

I have a question for anyone with actual military experience....

Ok, lets set aside the fact that Trump is likely going to make the parade/ceremonies all about himself. And lets set aside the fact that this is an event that will cost millions of dollars, at a time when the government claims it is so broke it has to cut funding into cancer research and schools.

Lets say the US had a real/rational/responsible president.... (Like Obama, or even Bush)...

USAF, 73-76.

TBH, I'd be honored to be a part of it, but I'd make sure to give the big baboon a one finger salute as I passed him.

Even if I was caught and punished, it would still be worth it.

When it comes to scumbags, there are few scummier than this orange dirtbag with a moribund blonde ferret atop his vacant cabeza.

President Donald Trump shared a post on Monday calling Joe Biden a "decrepit corpse."

The statement was posted on Truth Social by a social media user titled @DC_Draino, who describes himself as a "lawyer and patriot."

"They stole the 2020 election and hijacked the country using a decrepit corpse as a frontman," the post states. "They used an autopen to start wars, steal from our treasury, and pardon their friends."

It adds: "Arrest those responsible and charge them with TREASON."

I guess since they took some flak for hiding Trump's transcripts maybe they figured editing is a better solution?

They know.

They know that when transcripted, his speeches are revealed as the rambling word salad disasters that they really are. It's harder to justify, so they censor it instead.

Discussing the MAHA report on children's health Dr. David Gorski wrote, "That must be why the Trump administration budget proposal for FY2026 includes a massive 40% cut to the NIH budget and a 5.5% cut to the FDA budget. One also can’t help but note that all the concern about environmental chemicals, both where warranted and where unwarranted, seems not to have filtered up to actual budgetary policy. After all, the Environmental Protection Agency is facing a 55% budget cut for FY2026, while the CDC, which also investigates environmental contributions to disease and chronic diseases, is facing a budget cut of one-third."

Jaime Vernon wrote, "The budget request proposes a staggering 56% cut to NSF’s budget, reducing it from $8.8 billion to $3.9 billion."
