Unless FBI directors have a really amazing leave policy being on leave for fewer days than your predecessors is unlikely to result in you working twice as many days as them. But this reinforces my belief that they have no numerical sense.

And also disbelieve the shoddy workmanship in putting it together. I wouldn't trust the thing on the right half as far as I coupd throw it, it looks ready to fall apart if you sneeze on it.

Yep. Wonky screen as Andy noted and various blank panels. It looks like a prototype in an off-the-shelf console box instead of a finished product like those standard 19" rackmount devices on the left.

Sure, they have a lot of pushbuttons and I don't know what they do, but we can be confident they have the controls the user needs for the job they need to do. One knob per function, and you can actually feel the controls under your fingers as you use them, and you know where they all are because they don't move around. Putting the same functions on a touchscreen tempts designers to bury some, layers down below others. It looks tidy but it doesn't reduce the mental workload when you are doing something time-critical. The "crystal clear digital" puffery is just a joke. You can make comms equipment either brilliant or barely intelligible just as easily in the digital domain as you can in analogue.
