Exactly. They will be making several Earth orbits first, to verify systems - and to do a manual fly of the Artemis - before performing TransLunar Injection (TLI). The TLI will place the spacecraft on what is called a "free return" trajectory, which is one that only loops around the moon and falls back. Early Apollo missions used this, but none went as far out as Artemis II will (Apollo 13 was the next closest).
