Trump's Second Term

Donald Trump has threatened legal action against the BBC, following criticism over how a speech the US president made was edited and used in a Panorama documentary.

His legal team has given the BBC a deadline of 14 November to make a "full and fair retraction" of the documentary - or face being sued for $1bn (£760m).

In addition to a retraction and apology, trump's lawyer is also asking BBC to "appropriately compensate" the president. Ka-ching.

According to split-ticket.org, (which also claims that Perot did not hurt Bush):

"Perot drew most of his support from the younger elements of Generation X (25–29), which can be partially explained by youth disillusionment with the status quoof the two-party system."
Ross Perot may not have been a spoiler, in either of his elections, but the possibility of a 3rd party leading to a split vote is certainly there.

For example, in the 2016 election, Trump won Michigan by less than 1%. Meanwhile the green party had roughly 1.1%, and I assume that if the green party did not exist those voters would probably vote democrat (since their environmental and economic policies are more in alignment.)

The same argument can also be made for the Libertarian party potentially causing the republicans to lose New Hampshire.

Absolutely! Which is why I didn't vote for Nader despite being a hardcore tree-hugger. First time in the Presidential election if my senile memory serves me correctly.... (duplicate to follow due to weird QUOTE in previous comment)

Yes, I believe it may have originated there...

Hmm... is the BBC allowed to use discovery in the fat clown's suit against them since he's out of the country?

"Oh, the places we could go..." if I was their lawyer.

The quote is a paraphrasing of an old Dr. Suess book. Oh, the Places You'll Go.

ETA: I used to work for a Legal Copy company that did most of the legal discovery work for Microsoft, including the Jimi Hendrix lawsuit by his father. The father won and then threw Paul Allen (who financed it) under the bus.

Allen originally wanted to call that weird building (at the Seattle Center) the "Jimi Hendrix Experience".

Believe me, discovery can cover a lot of crap, and I got to see (and hold) a lot of Jimi Hendrix's private letters, and his original hand-written song sheets too, and that was damn cool.

His father... not so much.

Trump: "We want a healthcare system where we pay the money to the people instead of the insurance companies. We're gonna be working on that very hard over the next short period of time. Where the people get the money. We're talking about trillions and trillions of dollars."

I quite like a healthcare system where we give treatment, rather than money, to sick people. You know, as if the intended outcome was patients getting better, instead of deciding who gets paid.

"Appropriately compensate" for a misleading edit so egregious that nobody complained about it for months and months. Hmm. Maybe, like, make his gurning mug the baby face sun in a new series of the Tellytubbies. How about that?

Do you really want to be responsible for an army of mums on the warpath looking for someone to blame for their babies being up all night because of nightmares?

I can relate to that statement (former public defender, guitarist who has read everything about Hendrix, lived up the street from Seattle Center ...etc) Very cool!

Congress candidate blasts shutdown deal approved by her mom

Stefany Shaheen, a Democrat running for Congress and the daughter of Granite State Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, blasted the shutdown deal approved by her mom

The deal to end the government shutdown isn’t just dividing Democrats, it’s dividing families.

Stefany Shaheen, a Democrat running for Congress in New Hampshire and the daughter of retiring Granite State Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, blasted the shutdown deal because it doesn’t include a provision demanded by many Democrats to extend federal health care subsidies.

"We need to both end this shutdown and extend" the health care subsidies, Stefany Shaheen wrote on social media. "Otherwise, no deal."

Jeanne Shaheen was among eight Democrats who approved the shutdown deal. Her daughter is running in the Democratic primary to replace U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas, who is running for the Senate seat being vacated by Jeanne Shaheen.

Gonna be an awkward Thanksgiving in the Shaheen household.

Okay it was about Christmas, but I think it's going to be close enough to apply, Stuart from Spin City is talking about spending the holiday with his parents-:

"Christmas Dinner at our house is three 'Hungry Man' dinners and a box of wine. The first 'I Hate You' comes out at about one thirty"

Trumpcare

Trump: "What I want is instead of going to the insurance companies, I want the money to go into an account for people where the people buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out and negotiate their own health insurance. Call it Trumpcare."
