I think Liberals will never get what Trump said. It's at odds with your core beliefs and inability to separate political division from love of Country. Most Liberals that didn't vote for Trump will be furious during his time in office. And please continue. Demonstrate, break things, set cars on fire. Others may tell you not to do these things but I say continue, by all means.

Baloney. Fighting corruption in politics is a progressive mainstay and they have always come out against known cases of corruption. Progressives would love it if they believed Trump had any actual intent to "drain the swamp," but knowing that he is a sociopathic liar and a self-absorbed grifter himself, not many believed him. And it turned out they were right.

ETA: Furthermore, Trump didn't even mention who it was that really caused the misery of the working class: the people the corrupt politicians are owned by. And what a surprise, they are the same people who will get massive tax breaks and deregulation, while the working class get crumbs and empty promises.

A bit premature. Let's see what he actually does first.

I'd say he's done plenty already.

To paraphrase from a FB post: This guy threatened our lives, doused us in gasoline, and as he pulls a match from the matchbook you are telling us "Let's see what he does next.".

I think there are many that would rather concentrate on political division rather than celebrate a special day for our Country.

You're moving the goalposts. You said liberals will never "get" Trump's words. Now you're talking about dividing the country. I addressed the former. Could you at least acknowledge that?

He said it stopped raining when he was speaking.

It did. And by him saying "It stopped raining" means it was raining when he first started speaking then it stopped. The rain restarted about the time the Bible thumper Graham guy started selling Jesus.

So you lied?

Yes, it was hit and miss though. It rained some, then it stopped, then it rained again all during his speech.

I had a very busy weekend and didn't talk to my wife until late yesterday. We got to "the speech", and I asked her what she thought of it. I don't remember her exact answer, but it was generally positive. We used words like "positive" "uplifting" "energetic".

I didn't much like the content of the speech, in terms of what policies it portended, but the tone was good. We both agreed on these things.

The thing that I found interesting, and I new she would be surprised by, was how the media described it. I knew that she would have turned off coverage and not listened to the talking heads afterwards. In the coverage afterwards, I heard the media analysts describing it as "dark" and "negative". I was very surprised by that, but I saw several headlines with those words in them over the next day or so. When I mentioned that to my wife, she thought that was crazy. It was kind of a "What speech were they listening to" moment.

I don't like Trump. I think he's insane. I think his policies are, mostly, going to be very bad. However, that speech he gave wasn't negative. it wasn't dark. Anyone who thinks it was is out of touch.

You have an odd taste if you think that "Carnage" is an uplifting expression.

So you lied?

No, I didn't lie. It rained when he started his speech, it stopped then restarted with a few drops then stopped again. He finished his speech without rain falling, but it did rain during. To say it did not rain during his entire speech would be a lie. I did not intend my words to be taken as a second by second description of events. It started up pretty good again with Graham was talking then likewise stopped again. It was hit and miss patches of rain.

And by the way, Trump did not lie either, it was raining and it stopped. I cannot determine if this was due to divine intervention, but I can confirm the weather was as he said.

Could you put that in context? I didn't listen.

"But for too many of our citizens, a different reality exists: Mothers and children trapped in poverty in our inner cities; rusted-out factories scattered like tombstones across the landscape of our nation; an education system, flush with cash, but which leaves our young and beautiful students deprived of knowledge; and the crime and gangs and drugs that have stolen too many lives and robbed our country of so much unrealized potential.

This American carnage stops right here and stops right now."
from Trump's Inauguration speech
bolded for emphasis

heartwarming stuff indeed.
