I'm sure it already has. The USA is, now and for the foreseeable future, an unreliable partner. Any planning regarding deals & partnerships any country may embark upon with the USA will have to have the medium term unreliability of the US as a partner built into it.

Wonder what special pleading (most) GOP Senators will use next, in order to delay the moment they recognise Biden as next president.

So about that New Mexico suit. It argues that the state Legislature should pick electors. It argues the question will not become moot even after Jan. 20, 2020:

"This action is not moot and will not become moot."

Yet in the "Factors warrant interim relief" section, it states
Plaintiff will suffer irreparable harm if the New Mexico state unconstitutional presidential electors vote in the Electoral College.

Well, fine. If it's irreparable doesn't that moot the case?

Someone in the house of representatives challenges an EC and congress are sent to their chambers to address the challenge. The counting of the votes of the EC is put on hold until the matter is resolved.

The Senate immediately upholds the challenge, and therefore votes for the vote to thrown out.

Meanwhile, in the House, the Speaker sends the matter to a committee for review. The chair of the committee does not convene the committee.

On January 20, 2021, the President's and VP's 4 year term comes to an end, but there is no President elected by the EC. At that point, the Speaker of the House, the next in the order of secession, takes over as President of the United States until the election is resolved.

Both chambers have two hours to vote and can only recess until the next day and cannot recess more than 5 days total during the count.

They would be sending their votes to the President of the Senate (and the U.S. Archivist and state Secretary of State) just like the real electors do.

It may take California a while. That's a whole lot of paperwork to submit in sextuplicate.

That all Electoral votes will have been cast before any judge would be able to hear the case makes this moot. I'll take your filing fee and say "next case".

News crews are surrounding the State Capitol here in Sacramento since it looks as if Cali might be the state to put BIden over the top. I am betting things will be sppeded up to have that honor.

Beyond that, it's funny that the New Mexico legislature is overwhelmingly Democratic and would pick the exact same electors.

It seems to be trying to establish a precedent of some sort, not actually seeking relief.

In theory they're over the top already. But no question about it California will be the State to put Biden over 270.

Not sure what the filing fee is in New Mexico. I do know that it can be as much as $500 to file in Federal District Court.

The only reason I know that is some Republican lawyer filed an election challenge in the wrong court and tried to get his fee back. Except instead of owning up to his error, the lawyer lied as to the reason for the error. The judge said he would ordinarily refund the filing fee but because the lawyer lied he denied the refund.

That's funny with it being so close at the moment. The next thing you try try to tell me is that nobody in California is going to vote for Trump.
