Trump's Coup d'état.

There's now a video of some guy claiming to be an "elector" in Michigan at the door of the statehouse trying to hand in a vote in a manila envelope.

The security sent him away.

Note that he is not an actual elector, so he is no more than a random person standing at the door of the statehouse waving a manila envelope.

I have not heard yet if he was one of the Trump electors or just a random nut.

CNN has a page that looks like it's reporting electoral votes live, as they happen. Right now it shows Biden 3, Trump 0. (Vermont is the first state to report.)

ETA: Ninja'd.

It's weird. There has never been any interest in this sort of thing in the past. Donald Trump upsets the norms again.

OMG! The suspense is killing me! Who will win? Who will win? Anything could happen!

From CNN, 42 states/DC have voted. 9 states left, 3 for Trump, 6 for Biden. Texas and California still outstanding.

Current total is 203 - 181, but only 51 more committed to Trump.

(yeah, this is all not news)

It appears the Trumpy coup is starting to drag on a bit. It's been, what..., four weeks now? And yet Donny is being shoved further and further away from his stated goal.

Usually coups are over in a day or so, and the new beloved dictator-for-life wades victoriously through rivers of vanquished blood to sit on the Throne of skulls by nightfall or whatever. With Donny...he's sitting on his fat ass and flicking between OANN and whatever crap movie he is watching instead of being an actual president.

So where is this coup?

Well, the coup is picking up speed as we speak.

Only an hour after New Mexico's electors voted for Biden, Trump filed a lawsuit in Federal Court about the use of drop boxes for absentee ballots in the State.

I always knew there was a Plan.

It sounds like another of those things where even if Trump won they would just change procedures for the next election, not throw out the vote for this one.

Well the problem Trump is very, very good at doing things we can't ignore.

When he... nukes Denmark in his last week in office or streaks naked through Biden's inauguration or deep fries and eats the Declaration of Independance or whatever the voices in his head tell him to do we can't ignore that under the "ignore the troll / he's only doing it for the attention" methodology.
I'm not thinking of this in terms of strategy. You're right that such a top-down, blanket approach as "ignore the troll" is easily challenged. I'm thinking of people getting genuinely bored with his games on an individual level. But here I am, as interested as everyone else in, "What is he going to do next?"

Yes, " laches", the term I learned thanks to the Trump litigation.
He'll whine about technicalities, probably.

That's what people are afraid of...

Exactly.

If there's anything Trump has taught the world these past 4+ years, it's that the US political system is not only corrupt beyond all recognition (no surprise), but it's also massively dysfunctional to the point of near implosion (big surprise).

The next time republican corruption manages to elect another one of their wannabe supremacist nutbags, he/she may very well succeed where the fat orange pig failed. That poses a danger to societies on a global scale.

This new revelation will have most other countries now rethinking their strategies on what kind of trust/faith they put into any future US relations.

I can't take any more of this. When will it just stop.

It's still so scary to me that all this is happening. I haven't been able to eat properly for weeks between this bizarro **** and covid fears. I miss normalcy so much, if it ever comes back I will never complain about my life again. I'm serious.

Yeah, that is new. But it's not a new concept, of course. I mean, laches is just the legal way of saying you can't complain about the rules after the game is over, and if you have a problem with them, you should have brought up before hand.

They are meant to prevent EXACTLY what Trump is trying to do - for the loser of an election to throw out the results.

There are legal sources that make that exact statement.

It's like every time someone tells Trump "That's a bad idea" he goes "Yeah but has anyone tried doing... but being really stubborn and just not giving up and being a total baby about it? Would it work then?"

According to CNN, the electoral vote is tied!!!! 229 - 229!!!!!

(Montana is the only Trump state left)

Montana will put Trump at 232. Then all he needs is 37 faithless electors to switch from the usurper Biden to him. Could work...
