Merged Trump shot in PA??

When somebody is described as being "neither right nor left", you can be almost guarantted that their views will turn out to be far right.

Has to remind me of a great Leonard Cohen song, “Democracy”. In part…

“I'm sentimental, if you know what I mean
I love the country but I can't stand the scene
And I'm neither left or right
I'm just staying home tonight
Getting lost in that hopeless little screen
But I'm stubborn as those garbage bags
That time cannot decay
I'm junk but I'm still holding up
This little wild bouquet
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A…
”

Aren't these the guys who think nothing of wearing diapers to stand in solidarity with Trump's perceived incontinence?

According to Marina Hyde in the Grauniad, Trump replaced a small plaster with a much larger one (allegedly a panty liner) before appearing at the congress; she failed to predict that some would actually copy the look.

But of course, we can all take a joke, which in any case means so much more coming from the caddie for a guy who wore a pantyliner on the side of his head to the RNC. Did you clock this? Earlier photos showed Trump’s ear sporting a much smaller plaster, but for his convention appearance he boldly went with something his imperial tailors had told him was the medical equivalent of a suit spun from pure gold, and an object of ridicule only to the stupid or unintelligent. Seriously, this is history’s most iconic ear injury and it can do whatever it wants. Try imagining the artist Van Gogh could have been if only he’d spokesmodelled for Carefree, instead of wrapping himself in some off-brand rags. If this was a proper cult, all the delegates and everyone at the next Trump rally would also stick pantyliners to the sides of their heads.

I've seen insane stories by Fox but this has to be near the top of the list.

Two neighbors of would-be Trump assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks dismissed the attention drawn to his political affiliation, saying the family appeared to never have campaign signs of any stripe in their Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, yard.
Amy, who spoke to reporters alongside Holly – a local GOP captain – attested that the media would be hard-pressed to find a neighbor who could vouch for any signs having been seen in the Crooks' yard.
"I give out the signs, and I've never given to that house, I'll tell you that," said Holly, who alluded to the fact Crooks was a registered Republican.

The shooting suspect also donated $15 to a progressive political action committee on the day of President Biden's inauguration.

"I walk by here all the time, other neighbors do," Amy added. "You will not find one neighbor that will confirm or ever say they saw those signs in the yard."
"I'm on a Republican committee here in Bethel Park," Holly said. "I'm a committee woman, and I door-knock everywhere: for [2022 U.S. Senate nominee Dr. Mehmet] Oz, for [2022 gubernatorial nominee State Sen. Doug] Mastriano, for Trump, for all of them," she said.
Holly said she had never door-knocked at the Crooks' home; campaigns and activists often have access to voter rolls with likely voters of respective parties.
"I know who the Republicans are. I mean, he's not on the list," she said.
There is so much that insane about that story I can't even begin.

Remember that "real men wear diapers" bit, where people were publicly wearing diapers in emulation of their God-Emperor?

How long until the in thing for GOPers will be to have the top section of you right ear removed to emulate Trump?

Isn't it okay to joke about the assassination attempt?

Usually when you joke about sensitive topics, you should do so in a way that makes it clear that you are, in fact, joking. A dead baby joke can be hilarious when we all know it's just a joke. The problem here is that it's not obvious that it was a joke. There are enough people who would say that in absolute earnest that it can easily be taken seriously. And when taken seriously, it's not funny.

It depends on the context. In my opinion, when someone is asked to "make a wish" when blowing out candles, then even if there are enough people in the world who sincerely believe birthday wishes can come true, there are also audiences sophisticated to know that they don't, and to them making a joke in an arena of such an audience, then it should be assumed to be a joke. I mean, my understanding is that Tenacious D is essentially a musical comedy act.

Judging by the laughter and the setting of a robot bringing a cake on to the stage, it seemed the audience thought it was a joke...

Should he have said it? Maybe not.

But I would have had more respect for Jack Black if he had just distanced himself from the joke and carried on with the tour.

I didn't get why there were people predicting (without offering any reason) that it would help Trump.

Modern punditry prioritizes narrative-crafting over fact-checking. "Candidate gets shot, but instead of falling, he rises" is the most obvious story one can make from the events, so that's what they go with. Who needs data when it sounds compelling?

I kept wondering if people expected sympathy votes or something like that.
"I wasn't going to vote for him, since he's a horrible person and a terrible leader, but since he got shot I just feel so bad for him. Now I'm going to vote for him so maybe he'll feel better."

Usually when you're joking about a polarizing and widely despised figure like donald trump people see it both ways. Is there anyone who doesn't believe humankind would be better off today if Crooks had been a better shot? Even trump's supporters must recognize -- deep down -- that trump's a bad person.

It's like I said to my wife: We would all be better off if the guy hadn't missed. She agreed. trump is nothing but trouble. For everyone. :(

Yep.

I'm sure plenty of people didn't feel sad when JFK or Reagan got shot.
You might feel sympathy for the Family, but not for the Party.

That's just silly. Don't project you and your wife's fanatical ideology onto others.
