The Trump/Putin summit predictions thread

Fox is choking. First they called the press conference "interesting". They went into a bit of criticism, a lot of apologizing (excusing) and now they are turning on Brennan because his Tweet calling it "treasonous" went too far.
Do you have a link to Fox's post-game analysis? I avoid Fox but would like to see them choke ... I'll check YouTube

Anderson Cooper said it was the most disgraceful thing he's ever seen.
On first view, I didn't think the press conference was that bad; summits usually end with platitudes, not confrontations. But it's bothering me more and more. There are plenty of things he could have said that weren't confrontational, but which would not have made the U.S. look pathetically weak.

Sorry, no link, I'm just channel surfing the 3 news station responses to the news conference.

I echo what Captain_Swoop said about your 'not that bad' comment. :jaw-dropp

I found enough on YouTube to quench my thirst. I guess what I meant by "not that bad" is that I didn't have high expectations of Trump to begin with. I figured he would do exactly what he did - all but lick Putin's boots.

A reporter should have asked, "Sir, would you like to use this opportunity to apologize to Putin?" :p

Fox Business has some highly critical coverage. One apologist, two just blasting Trump.

Weak, fawning, hypocritical, irrational, etc.

ETA: Cavuto used the word "disgusting" twice. I don't know if Fox Business is typically more critical than the main Fox News, which I still haven't seen.

I imagine that on the 8-hour plane ride back he is cast back in his La-Z-Boy, constantly bouncing that soccer ball off the bulkhead, perhaps absorbing the first dim inkling that maybe he ********** that up pretty badly.

No. He's incapable. I suspect that Putin isn't too happy about Trump's performance either.

Here's how The PDJT struck me during the last part of his speech
"Vladimir Putin is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my life."

Here's what I imagine Putin doing the second he got into his limo

As satisfying as it must have been for Putin, he's aware that Trump may incur substantial backlash, when even Fox News is struggling to present any upside to Trump's performance. Of course there may be no significant backlash except at the margins from McCain (he's dying anyway :boxedin:) . I think Lindsey Graham is going to be pretty ticked off, more so than he seemed in a mildly critical tweet. I gotta wonder what Mattis, Kelly, Bolton, Pompeo etc. are thinking.

Putin probably wants the U.S. to buy in to Trump, and Trump at least temporarily has lost buy-in from Congress, for example. Putin has reason to want Trump to project strength. An ineffectual Trump is not the best scenario for Putin.

But of course this tempest will likely be contained, and senators/congressmen will fall into line after they've signaled their displeasure.

The Fox News panel said something like "this will be cleaned up by Tucker and Hannity." A catty little jibe about how their co-workers' basically work for Trump.

Gawd I don't know which thread to put this in. Fox showed a preview of the Hannity interview.

Here's how it's going to go down. Trump could be making this critically important deal with nuclear armed Russia if it wasn't for that Mueller meddling.

Chris Wallace interviewed Putin. Putin claims that since there was dirt in the emails they hacked that was the problem, not the hacking. He denies the government was involved in the hacking, he's going with individuals did it.

Why not? That couldn't have gone better for Putin if he had planned it. Maybe he did plan it. :p
See post above responding to alfaniner.

Brennan thinks Bolton, Kelly and Pompeo all should resign - it won't happen, but I wonder what Trump supporters would think if they did. Would it just be further proof of Trump's brilliance? Or would the words "rats on a sinking ship" come to mind?

It’s final: Putin won.

When the talking heads of the GOP and Fox all agree that the meeting is a disaster for America, it's unarguable that Putin won alright.

Where are those people who abused me for saying Putin was a master a few years back?

All I saw was people laughing at his feeble navy and saying he had nothing.

USA! USA! USA!

Meanwhile, Putin is thinking: Easy, boyfriend, you’re laying it on a little thick.

Uhhh; no.

Putin will rightly be basking in it.

Had this summit taken place with any president of USA in all history, it would have started and finished with demands to get out of Ukraine, Crimea & Syria, and to keep his damned hackers at home.

Instead, Vlad's had the seal of approval as a top bloke who's being terribly misunderstood by America.

Will probably work, too.

Learn how to say Hello in Russian.

We need to see how this plays out. It's possible the success was so complete it was a failure. There are several possibilities here that could be bad for Russia. Trump might try to prove he's not a Russian whore and do something crazy like approve arms sales to Ukraine. Congress might attach funds to strengthen NATO and make recognition of Crimea a matter of law in the NDAA. The attack ad against pro Trump Republicans basically writes itself with those quotes.

Even one high-profile defection from the Trump cabinet could put him in a death spiral. Lower level staffers with careers to think about may jump ship even faster to keep from being too badly damaged. Before we get all crazy about Putin winning, we need to see how this plays out.

I find myself getting more and more pissed off everyday at the people who voted for Trump. They owe their country an apology.

To me, the most crushing part of Trump's election was realizing that I live in a country that would elect Trump. Great nations do not elect ignorant, self-absorbed, self-serving, fear-mongering, race-baiting demagogues with empty promises of restoring the nation to some imaginary greatness by demonizing politically powerless ethnic groups. Somehow, we have become a nation dominated by resentful ****heads.

ETA: And don't give me the "but Hillary's emails" crap. Republicans had nearly 20 candidates to choose from.
