The Trump/Putin summit predictions thread

The president was a complete doormat. The United States has never looked weaker and more impotent on the international stage than it did during that press conference.

Hmm, he can freely insult any political leader in the world, no holds barred - well, bar one, uncle Vladi who is totally untouchable for some reason. One does wonder.

Even the apologists on this board are quiet trying to figure out how to twist this into something they can support. Give 'em time. They'll figure out something. It won't make sense, of course, but they'll still try. It's what they do.

Let me help 'em out.
Ahem...

"WHAT!? do you want war or something? There you go, establishment politicians and the media beating the war drum just as Trump is calming down the fire, and there's still no solid evidence of Russian interference!"

Yeah. Why was it so bad that Shillary™ sold uranium to the Ruskies? Aren't we friends?

I have to admit, I'm numb.

No one, including the 24/7 Trump Network (Fox) and his own staff was prepared for the totality of his sell-out. The most cynical prognosticators had bets on him saying/doing nothing and then coming out and winkin' and noddin' to the faithful about the stern talking-to he'd given Putin. (Then, of course, he'd do nothing but the faithful would lap it up.)

I can imagine the producers talking into the earsets of the Fox talking heads... "Holy ****! He just said WHAT??!! You're on your own explaining this one. I dunno.. try talking about the soccer ball or something. Holy crap he's still talking and it's getting worse! I'm outta here. I'll be in the Hamptons."

No collusion, and Putin said he did not do it, Hillary did it, where is the server? Whattttttt?

wow

He couldn't utter so much as a single sideways word about Russia in Putin's presence. Every press question about Russia's bad behavior was redirected by him into a more harsh reproach of his own country.

Hilarious to see Putin play Trump. Trump arrived the day before, was at Finnish PM Sauli Niinisto's presidential palace by 8:00am next day, where he was widely televised having breakfast.

But where was Putin? He didn't even get on the plane from Moscow until about eleven. He arrived almost one hour late, whilst Trump had been twiddling his thumbs for almost six hours.

Who turns up late for an important meeting when the eyes of the whole international community has their tv lens directed at one? The boss, that's who.

Trump kept HM the Queen waiting ten minutes, and she was hopping around pointedly looking at her watch. Enter Putin, with the killer counterstroke. In terms of one-upmanship, this was skill.

No razzmatazz getting off the plane either. Just a brief handshake with the air steward and then a quick skip down the steps with an ugly security guy in tow. Whipped off his jacket in the 30 degrees Helsinki heatwave and he was on his way.

Boy did he make Trump look like a monkey's uncle.

Asked directly by Wallace if Russia had “kompromat” – or “compromising material” – on Trump, Putin denounced the allegations as “utter nonsense”.
“We don’t have anything on them, and there can’t be anything on them,” he said.

“I don’t want to insult President Trump when I say this – and I may come [across] as rude – but before he announced that he will run for presidency, he was of no interest for us.”

“He was a rich person, but, well, there’s plenty of rich persons in the United States,” Putin added. “But no, it would never occur to anyone that he would think of running for president. He never mentioned his political ambitions.”

Trump echoed Putin’s claim in his own interview, stating of the Russian president: “He said as strongly as you can say it, they have no information on Trump.”

Who me? Russia interfere in the US elections? Not me, guv. But if you like, we can investigate ourselves.

Trump USA president 18 month's experience. Putin, 18 years in the KGB; Russian President for goodness knows how long.

Trump the baby blimp, Putin, the man.

It was like a kindergarten brat playing Anatoly Karpov at world chess. You simply cannot beat the Russians at mind games, except perhaps Bobby Fischer, who out psyched Boris Spassky...sometime last century. Donny ain't gonna be the one to check Vlad. Move on back two squares.

Bet you dollars to donuts Putin knows damn well Trump is not rich, rather he's over-extended.

Putin can be forgiven for believing that his form of "Guided Democracy" is superior to the US version, given that it produced a President Trump.

I would agree except it hasn't stopped him supporting Trump yet, and, he's planning to run for POTUS. This isn't about being home with the kids.

I'm not convinced, but if so it would mean trying to primary Trump. May as well start to distance himself now. I can't believe he'd give up his seat now for a potential 2024 run.

I think 2020, and actually, now that we know how the social media was manipulated, people might be over estimating how much Trump was responsible for Trump winning anything.

I checked Breitbart for their take but stopped short of watching Hannity - at least Trump will always have Sean.

His approval ratings aren't going to tank (probably) but there are other factors in play. To me he has seemed especially "off" since the Kim meeting. He was so excited for that to happen - as excited as I've seen him - only to get mostly negative or mediocre reviews. He seemed let down.

Never mind the approval ratings, what were his TV ratings?

The thing that struck me most was the condescension I saw in Putin's face whenever he looked at Trump.

Was it ever!

An indulgent grandfather watching his grandson catch a ball. "What a good boy, Donnie."

"If you keep being good, I'll let you drive one of those big trucks you played with at the White House next time you visit."

The one thing of the whole Steele Dossier tale I've always discounted is the Pee Tape. Now? I've simply leap-frogged past it and am more than willing to accept that it's something far worse. Donnie Johnny would survive a "Pee Tape". We've seen the idiots and sycophants (sometimes idiot sycophants) in the GOP and voting for the GOP. A couple of hookers peeing.... bah it'd barely make the news.

No, I'm going off into A.M. Coast to Coast territory. They've got several million in loans from drug dealers and people traffickers, or him agreeing with an oligarch that the best solution to their purchasing needs would be if a certain competitor were to take the big dirt nap.

None of the "usual suspects" is appearing so I'll do my best to defend President Trump.

President Trump is trying to put his own personal, short term, reputation in jeopardy in order to forge closer links between the US and Russia. He is confident that there was no substantive Russian meddling in the election. If any did take place, it had no effect on the result and certainly the Trump campaign did nothing to encourage or collude in it beforehand or support it after the fact.

In the same way that "Only Nixon could go to China", only President Trump has the foresight and deal-making nous to develop the US-Russia relationship, reverse nuclear proliferation, bring peace to the Middle East and the Korean Peninsula and crush ISIS. All previous Presidents have lacked the nerve to meet with these so-called dictators, stare them in the eye to see what is in their soul and make those deals which will save the world.

All of this in the face of a deep state attempt to stage a coup led by 13 angry Democrats - Sad !

Despite all the flak that President Trump has taken - AFAIK not a single word of reproach from any GOP politician in a position to seek re-election. As treasonous and traitorous as it's alleged to be (I personally think that's being waaaaaaaaay over-egged) no-one in the GOP who is in a position to lose anything has said a peep - IMO that's disgraceful.

I'm not getting your (Coast to Coast?) reference but it could be more white-collar than that:

Russians give Trump $60 million and he buys a golf course that needs lots of renovations. He really does renovate it, but ends up spending $200 million to subcontractors etc. for cost overruns or other setbacks. The subcontractors are so touched by his generosity that they give him substantial kickbacks. I'm not sure what happens from there. I don't know if this explains how he initially got the $60 million or $200 million, and it also might not be easy to spend that money in his offshore accounts. Where would I look for more information? Possibly from this link, but if you have others please share!

Where Did Donald Trump Get Two Hundred Million Dollars to Buy His Money-Losing Scottish Golf Club?

No doubt, the President will be excited to visit. After buying the property for more than sixty million dollars, he then spent a reported hundred and fifty million pounds—about two hundred million dollars total—remaking the site, adding a new course, rehabbing an old one, and fixing up the lodgings. It is possible, though, that he will have some harsh words for his staff. The Turnberry has been losing an astonishing amount of money, including twenty-three million dollars in 2016.

If someone knows more than I do, help me get my head around this ... what am I missing?
