Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 19

Pelosi's unforgivable crime was to completely steal the show with that move.
Even FOX is talking as much about that than they do about the Speech.
People will remember that, unlike the boring dribble coming from the orange menace's mouth.

Hopefully our next president will recognize that the speech itself means nothing, and opt out of the media circus "rebuttal" that follows.

To sum it up, the big winners of the Trump impeachment were Trump and the Republicans. The big losers were Biden and the Democrats. Happy ending, indeed.

God, you really tough tthere was ever a chance in hell of a conviction?
You have to be incredibly naïve to believe that.

Donald ******* Trump became, and still is, our President.

That makes me believe just about anything is possible under far-fetched circumstances.

President Trump was still impeached.

And I say the best thing for the Republicans would have been a Trump conviction, and removal.

From SOTU, as posted above:

"The American Nation was carved out of the vast frontier by the toughest, strongest, fiercest, and most determined men and women to ever walk the face of the Earth. Our ancestors … tamed the wilderness; settled the Wild West. … We are pioneers. … We settled the New World. … The nation is our canvas, and this country is our masterpiece
This makes me wish that Pelosi had not only torn up the speech, but chewed it, swallowed it and puked it up on Trump's lap.

What percentage of the population has he nullified with this image? It's not true of him; it's not true for his wife and 4 out of 5 of his children. Maybe Tiffany's ancestors were pioneers; I don't know. Pretty sure Jared's weren't.

I don't mind some of the sentimentality around the Founding Fathers because they spelled out ideals that were groundbreaking for the time - ideals that can be shared by people of diverse backgrounds. But this is very clearly a paean to white people, and only a subset of those.

This isn't even a dog whistle. It's hail the Fatherland, blood and soil, Tomorrow Belongs to Me.

I know, I know: This is not news :(

So, you're saying my Irish and Polish ancestors shouldn't have come to America because they were white? What nonsense. All of the land in the world is populated by people who claimed it, fought for it, bought it, bartered for it, were granted it, etc., then held onto it long enough one way or another to keep it. Race has nothing to do with it, but being human does. Before the Europeans arrived, the Native Americans did the same thing. Hope this helps.

But Susan Collins says he learned his lesson.
Talk about stupid.
She does have a habit of that sort of thing, doesn't she...

Votes for the Republican Tax cuts for Millionaire bill (which attacked parts of Obamacare) on the promise that they would have a funding bill "real soon" to shore up other areas of health care. (Surprise: it didn't happen)

Votes to confirm Kavanaugh because she says he won't rule against abortion rights on the Supreme court, and already he's voted against abortion rights at least once.

Votes trump 'Not Guilty' because he's learned a lesson, and Trump immediately claims he did "nothing wrong".

I would love to see a reporter ask Trump... "Do you think Collins is foolish for suggesting you learned a lesson?"

So a tiny little glimmer of hope...

Several Republican-led states have launched a court case to get Obamacare struck down. The Trump administration is of course doing nothing to defend Obamacare.

https://thehill.com/policy/healthca...er-taking-obamacare-case-at-feb-21-conference
The Supreme Court on Wednesday listed a closely watched case seeking to strike down the Affordable Care Act for discussion at the justices’ private conference on Feb. 21. The justices will consider whether to take up the case and on what schedule. There is at least some possibility they could decide to take the case this term, meaning a ruling would be issued by June.

Why its important:

The republicans have repeatedly lied and used dirty tactics in their attacks on the Affordable Care act (from Trump's promise during the 2016 election that he would replace it with something great, when in reality he had no plan, to the Republican's attempted replacement with a plan they drew up in private with no outside consult, to Trump's lies that he's defending "pre-existing condition" coverage.) However, Obamacare is a fairly popular program, and even many republicans like it. Seeing the supreme court strike down a popular program in the middle of an election campaign would probably harm the republicans.

The republicans are trying to get the supreme court to delay action on the case until after the next election.

There is no guarantee that the supreme court will take the case up quickly, but at least they haven't totally dismissed the idea.

Yeah, Collins always bitches and moans, but always vote the party line in the end.

LOL. If it's defined by Congress, who is supposed to enforce it? Congress? By impeachment, and the crime is whatever they say is the crime? That sounds ripe for abuse, especially when "The Resistance" controls the House, does it not?

Yes, that is exactly how the Constitution says it should be. You know, the constitution you're so enamored with.

Impeachment is *NOT* a criminal accusation. It requires no violation of criminal statues to occur. It is wholly and completely a political process.

C'mon, Brooklyn, your ignorance is showing. Buck up, fella.

That Biden would be damaged was clear from the start - that was what Trump's actions viz Ukraine was all about.
Democrats did all the they could to make his smear campaign costly for him.
We'll see if it was enough m

The Constitution says "High crimes and misdemeanors...". The Founders greatest fear regarding impeachment was a hyper-partisan group of politicians would come along and just make something up to impeach the POTUS for political advantage way outside of the guidelines, and it took well over 200 years before that fear was realized when Pelosi, Nadler, Schiff, and their supporting Democrats, a group who completely disregarded the wishes of the Founding Fathers, did just that with their scurrilous articles. Unfortunately for them, it ended in one of the greatest political faceplants in history. I would say they richly deserve the political blowback that will be resonating around the country against them all the way up to the election and beyond.
