Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 19

No, the greatest fear was a President being paid by foreign powers to put their interests over those of the US.
Impeachment is something perfectly normal, and while it doesn't happen often, it never required an actual crime to have been committed.
Read some Federalist Papers.

Say what?

You criticized it as being a "paean to white people" and the subject of the speech was the pioneers who built this country. You also mentioned "hail the Fatherland", and that certainly isn't a dog whistle, it's just left-wing nonsense.

The Constitution says "High crimes and misdemeanors...". The Founders greatest fear regarding impeachment was a hyper-partisan group of politicians would come along and just make something up to impeach the POTUS for political advantage way outside of the guidelines, and it took well over 200 years before that fear was realized when Pelosi, Nadler, Schiff, and their supporting Democrats, a group who completely disregarded the wishes of the Founding Fathers, did just that with their scurrilous articles. Unfortunately for them, it ended in one of the greatest political faceplants in history. I would say they richly deserve the political blowback that will be resonating around the country against them all the way up to the election and beyond.

Yah, shure.
The were so deathly afraid of it that the never wrote it down.

Also, I think you are over-looking Congress and Ken Starr. “OK, we’ll give you $15,000,000, no end date, unlimited subpoena power, and a fishing pole. Have at it, son.”

*peers back a couple years to Clinton*

Huh. Yet more historical revisionism from you.

With that said, of course, I wonder if you'll ever get tired of being wrong all the time.

Trump has literally blocked the FEC from doing anything by refusing to appoint commissioners - they need four to start an investigation, and they have three.
The FEC can do nothing in the 2020 election

Honestly, I lay the blame there much more firmly on McConnell. McConnell's been sabotaging the FEC as much as he can for as long as he's been able to do so... and that probably has something significant to do with him mostly losing McConnell vs FEC.

How did you get from my post to the following:

So, you're saying my Irish and Polish ancestors shouldn't have come to America because they were white?

They don't *care* if they're wrong. That's their secret weapon, and so far it has been pretty effective.

Mmm. I don't quite believe that. I suspect that it's much more likely for people like that to simply be too invested, emotionally, in their tribalism, for a number of reasons. For some, for example, because the right-wing media feeds them validation (and a decidedly skewed caricature of what "the left" is saying) that they're just not getting enough of elsewhere, which they then become a bit dependent upon.

Donald ******* Trump became, and still is, our President.

Nope, the idiot has strongly rejected that role, in favor of being president of his base only, and outright hateful to people that look like me.

She has to say it but Trump has never learnt a lesson in his life.

She was likely better off not saying it - which is a good sign that she hasn't learned her lesson, either.

Trump Tweets

Had failed presidential candidate @MittRomney devoted the same energy and anger to defeating a faltering Barack Obama as he sanctimoniously does to me, he could have won the election. Read the Transcripts!

Mitt Romney is forever bitter that he will never be POTUS. He was too weak to beat the Democrats then so he’s joining them now.
He’s now officially a member of the resistance & should be expelled from the @GOP.

I hate Trump, but find I hard to take this as anything but his usual bragging.

Sure but it is as serious as a guy telling his wife it would be funny if they had a threesome. His lack of follow-through and laziness doesn't mean it isn't serious.

I’ll take POTUS for $400, Alex.

The answer is “It’s time to move on. The country needs to come together and look forward.”

“What are things Donald Trump will never ever say?”

“Correct”

Seems that Trump now thinks that since he can't be impeached, he should be President for life.

What does it say?

To sum it up, the big winners of the Trump impeachment were Trump and the Republicans. The big losers were Biden and the Democrats. Happy ending, indeed.

Actually, the Repugnicans lost too. With Trump out they would finally step out from under his ample shadow. Problem is, they'd have had to vote him out, which would look bad for them.
