Robert Spencer doesn't fake his support for Jews and Israel. He is also not the hate-filled bigot you would accuse him of being. Breivik's supposed inspiration by Spencer was a deliberate lie, and it deserves to be refuted. It's sad that you've decided that lumping Spencer together with Breivik is acceptable.

You're the one who brought up Spencer, not me.
The fact remains, though, that while Breivik and some members of the "counterjihad" movement may differ in their attitude towards Jews and Israel, they are and always have been on exactly the same page regarding Muslims. Which is why this "refutation" is nonsense and nothing but a smokescreen. Breivik is a firm member of the same "counterjihad" hate movement as GoV, Spencer, the EDL, and the rest, and they're forever going to have to own that.

Yes I did. Because that's part of what the Gates of Vienna link demonstrates: Breivik's claim to have been inspired by Spencer was a deliberate lie designed to discredit Spencer. You seem to not care that this was a lie.
And what page is that, A'isha? What exactly do you imagine (and I say "imagine" because I doubt you actually know) Spencer's attitude towards Muslims to be?
Your willingness to accept this guilt by association is no better than if I lumped you in with Floyd Corkins because you supported gay marriage, or James Lee because you wanted to protect the environment.

Well, I particularly liked the time he was so insistent that the case of a man a man in Texas whose wife had left him, whose home had been foreclosed upon, whose business was failing, and who had filed for bankruptcy killed six members of his own family on Christmas morning while dressed in a Santa suit, then committed suicide was a case of "Islamic honor killing" that he hurled insults at anyone saying otherwise.
Or, more recently, the time he approvingly described the (fake) story about Angola banning Islam and destroying mosques as "clearly...a national security issue" and lamented that "censure from the UN and the world 'human rights' community will probably soon compel Angola to change its stance, and allow the jihadis free rein". Oh, and then lied and claimed he actually condemned it.
Or how about his promotion of the bizarre conspiracy theory that Obama is a secret Muslim (or the even more bizarre one that Anthony "let me show you my" Weiner is a secret Muslim)? Or the time he ranted about TLC's reality show "All-American Muslim" because it dares to "depict Muslims as ordinary folks just like you and me" and "would be much more interesting if it tracked one of its secular, attractive nominal Muslims as he decided to get more serious about his faith, and ended up participating in jihad activity or Islamic supremacist efforts to demonize and marginalize those who resist that activity"? Or the time he cited a whole bunch of white nationalist authors in an essay written for a magazine that (I'm sure out of sheer coincidence) publishes pieces by white nationalists? Or the time the Jewish Anti-Defamation League called out him and his hate-group SOIA for their bigotry (which Spencer responded to by calling the ADL "jihadist apologists")? Or the time he called CPAC (yes, that CPAC) "sharia-complaint" because they gave him the boot due to his loony claims that Grover Norquist (yes, that Grover Norquist) is secretly a Muslim Brotherhood operative?
Because, his claimed lie is a lie about an irrelevancy. Even if Breivik wasn't "inspired" by Spencer, they both were inspired by the same thing: hatred and fear of Muslims and Islam.
How that's supposed to make the "counterjihad" bigots look better is beyond me.

This isn't "guilt by association". This is noting that they say the same sorts of things with the same sort of alarmist tone. Seriously - GoV went all pearl-clutching in their efforts to separate Fjordman from Breivik, when Breivik's "nordocentric" ranting is perfectly aligned with Fjordman's own racist anti-immigrant ranting. They don't sort of vaguely share similar broad positions, they believe the same things.

If I were to read Robert Spencer, would I expect this:
I think you see this in a very strange way. If you were brought a dog which was so socially aggressive that it absolutely could not be allowed near people or other dogs, you would incarcerate it in close proximity to other dogs and humans until it died of old age?
Why is cheap phenobarbitol such an obvious choice for a cat or dog which has been injured through no fault of it's own, yet you would withold that same release from a man, forcing him to live, constrained, with his guilt till he dies?
I don't see execution as a deterrent or even as a punishment really. I see it as a get out of jail free card. It needn't hurt more than donating a unit of blood- and lots of us do that every 12 weeks.
