Ed The JD Vance thread

"Old person says modern music is crap."

Let me guess it's too loud and they only use 3 chords?

Taylor Swift is a talented musician. There's loads of great music still being produced. And great POPULAR music.

Yes as we get older music made for younger people doesn't connect with us as much and there's nothing wrong with that, but we can just say that and not have to go "Durrr it's crap because I don't like it."

I'm so, bloody, rich! I own apartment buildings and supermarkets (hahahahahah) and I only know three chords!!!

Well done you, you have Cheech and Chong's: "Earache my eye" playing in my head now.

Even JD Vance is turning his back on Drumpf :D . Look at this scathing condemnation!

"I don’t think most Americans are going to be influenced by a billionaire celebrity who I think is fundamentally disconnected from the interests and the problems of most Americans".

: puts hand on ear piece : ...Oh, sorry, what's that? He was talking about Taylor Swift? Sorry, it fit the bill so well I thought he was talking about Orange Führer.

I saw a comment on Xwitter in response to this, someone saying that Taylor Swift can vote Dem because she won't be sending her children off to die in a foreign war. My irony meter exploded.

She's a childless cat lady, she has to worry about her pets being sent off to a cooking pot.

Traditional Haitian dishes:

Pickled Pooch
Poached Puppy in Cream Sauce
Baked Boxer with Caramelized Baby Corgis
Spicy Siamese Soup
Persian Pate
Roasted Rottweiler in Tangy Terrier Sauce
Shorthair Shortcake
Persian Pie
Strayberry Ice Cream

And since we're pretty much in bed with the topic at this point.

There is no moral difference between eating dog/cat and eating cow/pig. There's just pragmatic reasons.

A dog is more useful alive then dead. One it's a carnivore so raising it as a meat animal is just dumb from pure thermodynamics. You might as well eat whatever you are feeding the dog.

Until the industrial revolution when food production was usually done on a personal level a dog could make you much more food by hunting or protecting the cow herd or keeping gophers out of the garden then the meager amount of meat you'd get out of killing and butchering the dog. I mean you can just look at a cow and a dog and go "Which one am I going to get more meat out of?"

Eating dog meat it's immoral, it's usually just stupid from a pure "is this animal more use alive or dead as food?" perspective.

I disagree. We intervened in the natural evolution of wolves and created dogs, and made them serve us, and of all animals they have become the most attuned to us. They give us absolute loyalty and we owe it to them in turn. No other domesticated animals are as close to us as dogs. Cats can be pleasant but they aren't as enmeshed with humanity as dogs are. I'd say the relationship between humans and dogs is one too close to allow eating each other. Except in extremely dire circumstances, like those in which we'd actually allow cannibalism of humans.

.

But there’s a moral difference between eating your own dog and eating the neighbor’s dog.

Not that that is actually happening. I was just responding to your philosophical post.

First thing I saw on TwiX this morning:

"JD Vance owns Dana Bash in interview!"
and
"Dana Bash owns JD Vance in interview!"

I do think that of all CNN's interviewers Dana Bash is the weakest. She actually tried to fact-check him this time but he kept rudely shutting her down.

i can see the confusion. one side values telling the truth, the other values being rude.

I agree, although it's an emotional argument. Dogs will put up with horrible abuse and still stay when any other animal would have taken any opportunity to bite/scratch/kick their abuser and head for the horizon.

Not quite. Dog meat has been part of human diet in many societies, and it is still the case in several countries.

It is for example still legal to slaughter dogs for private consumption in Switzerland. (Which when discovered pretty much silenced the Swiss organisation for the protection of animals that had been demanding that the olympics in Korea be shunned over their eating of dogs, the Koreans responding by being outraged at Europeans eating horse meat …)

Doesn't make it wrong. Humans are emotional beings. I don't know why so many "skeptics" mistake skepticism for being inhuman. We don't have to pretend to be Vulcans, or Cybermen, although a Vulcan Cyberman would be a pretty cool crossover. Would they have extra pointy things where regular Cybermen have those earphone pads?

Not that long ago, Amundsen's expedition to the South Pole depended on eating some of the dogs they also used for transport; it wasn't something they found themselves needing to do, it was planned from the outset.

And I think that's wrong. Am I allowed to have that opinion? Footbinding, involuntary clitoridectomy, and leaving babies with birth defects on mountainsides to die has also been part of many societies. I'm pretty sure those are wrong, too. I guess I don't get the merit badge for "every culture is valid", oh well.

And that was a jerk move of complete bastards, in my opinion.

Well said.

Trump owns Vance.

Sen. JD Vance, former President Donald Trump’s running mate, on Sunday backed away from*comments*he made in August saying that Trump would veto a federal abortion ban if it came to his desk.

“I’ve learned my lesson on speaking for the president before he and I have actually talked about an issue,” Vance told NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” just days after Trump publicly said he hadn’t ever discussed with Vance what he’d do if an abortion ban crossed his desk as president.
