Ed The JD Vance thread

Doesn't make it wrong. Humans are emotional beings. I don't know why so many "skeptics" mistake skepticism for being inhuman. We don't have to pretend to be Vulcans, or Cybermen, although a Vulcan Cyberman would be a pretty cool crossover. Would they have extra pointy things where regular Cybermen have those earphone pads?

I don't think being an emotional arguement makes it wrong, it just doesn't necessarily make it right even though I completely agree with you in this particular case.

JD Vance admits he's lying in Dana Bash interview this morning:

“The American media totally ignored this stuff until Donald Trump and I started talking about cat memes. If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that’s what I’m going to do,”

When Bash pointed out that he'd just said he created the story, Vance continued to repeat lies:

Vance said, “It comes from firsthand accounts from my constituents. I say that we’re creating a story, meaning we’re creating the American media focusing on it. I didn’t create 20,000 illegal migrants coming into Springfield thanks to Kamala Harris’ policies. Her policies did that. But yes, we created the actual focus that allowed the American media to talk about this story and the suffering caused by Kamala Harris’ policies.”

There are NO 'first hand accounts' of anyone's pets being stolen and eaten by Haitians.
Haitians are NOT there illegally.

The city of Springfield notes on its website that approximately 12,000 to 15,000 immigrants live in Clark County, and that Haitian immigrants are there legally as part of a parole program that allows citizens and lawful residents to apply to have their family members from Haiti come to the United States.
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, a Republican, flatly denied the rumor on Sunday and praised the immigrants for their positive influence on the community.

“No. Absolutely not,” DeWine said on ABC’s “This Week” when asked whether he’d seen any evidence of immigrants eating pets. “Let me tell you what we do know, though. What we know is that the Haitians who are in Springfield are legal,” the governor said. “They came to Springfield to work.”

In true Trumpian style, he denied that the lies he's spreading have caused the threats in Springfield:

Vance rejected the idea that his rhetoric had led to bomb threats: “There is nothing that I have said that has led to threats against these hospitals, these hospitals, the bomb threats and so forth,” Vance said.

And nothing Trump said caused Jan. 6, right? Vance might be even more dangerous than Trump if he ever ...god forbid...became POTUS.

And I think that's wrong. Am I allowed to have that opinion? Footbinding, involuntary clitoridectomy, and leaving babies with birth defects on mountainsides to die has also been part of many societies. I'm pretty sure those are wrong, too. I guess I don't get the merit badge for "every culture is valid", oh well.

Thank you.

And has been said many times: we don’t deserve dogs.

The holder of the office of Vice President cannot create or implement or order they be enacted “policies.” Trump’s Mini Me knows this, but for some reason it’s beyond the capabilities of a so-called professional journalist to correct Captain Eyeliner in real time.

Vance: "Dems need to tone down rhetoric... or someone's going to get hurt."

Vance: “There is nothing that I have said that has led to threats against these hospitals."

I didn't think Sarah Palin could ever be surpassed as the dumbest VP pick, but Trump has managed to do it.

Not that long ago, Amundsen's expedition to the South Pole depended on eating some of the dogs they also used for transport; it wasn't something they found themselves needing to do, it was planned from the outset.
This is just a guess but the reason seems blindingly obvious to me, you're not going to need as many supplies coming out as going in, and in any event, isn't packing extra food for non-working dogs to eat on the return trip kind of impossible economics in an expedition to the South Pole? For the same reason I can see the logic of eating them. What else would there be to eat? (What you pack in, sure. But anyone adventurous enough to go to the South Pole is bound to have eaten stranger things.)

ETA: To try to keep this on topic ... the people voting for Trump/Vance don't give a **** if this is true or not, they don't mind looking dumb. And besides: They rag on immigrants taking welfare, but then when some immigrants allegedly go out and try to provide for themselves, they don't like that either! Hey, if the people Dayfield or Springton don't want Africans or Haitians eating their pets all they have to do is obey leash laws and corral their kitty cats. That's on them.

This is where I'd love a presidential (or vice presidential) debate to go, but unfortunatley it won't.

I'm guessing you meant this as sarcasm. Amundsen's South Pole expedition was 1911. 123 years ago.

Did he not hear the last thing said in the debate? Trump saying Harris will cause WW3?

Or anything said by Trump?

Who are "Dems" supposed to be, anyway? Vance is just fueling more partisan hatred.

Springfield's been locked down for how many days in a row? Nah, it's got nothing to do with Vance's gaslighting.

And this loops back to a core concept of how I view the world.

You can't have moral standards without intellectual standards. Being wrong is uncivil. Spreading false information is dangerous rhetoric.

The Republicans, and you can see it here on the board as well as anywhere, want to create a world where they can spout hatred in civility theater and when a Democrat gets angry at them for the Democrat is the one who "breaks the rules of discourse."

They're eating the dogs. They're eating the cats. They're eating the pets of the people that live there!

There's no evidence this is happening.

I saw it on TV!

Well that's kinda &%$# -ed up, isn't it.

You need to tone down your rhetoric.

And so on.

About Vance's "eyeliner", is he actually wearing it, or is it just how his lower lashes look? Because Charlie Day has the same look and his is not eyeliner, he's talked about it before. Of course it looks so much better on Charlie Day because he is a very attractive man. Can't say the same about Vance. Vance looks like the villain in an 80s movie, probably some kind of real estate developer who wants to bulldoze the local teen hangout and put up condos.
