Ed The JD Vance thread

Vance said:
"In particular, there's evidence that the car seat rules that we've imposed, which of course I want kids to drive in car seats, have driven down the number of babies born in this country by over 100,000. So as we think about how to make kids safe here, I think we should do it in a way that's accommodating to American families."

And the firehose of craziness is at full pressure.

DID is a mostly fake illness someone with a traumatic brain injury and a difficult life like Roseanne might latch onto. I've had a lot to do with former sufferers of DID/MPD for the past 12 years. Some therapists still believe in it, but the diagnosis is controversial in the psychological community. Even the chair of the DSM-IV committee wanted it removed from the book.

I don't want to get into a sidetrack on the subject but I will say this: I do have a good friend whose younger sister was diagnosed with "multiple personalities" stemming from long term childhood sexual abuse by an older brother. My friend says she can tell when her sister "switches" and has learned what triggers it. She does not think she's faking it.

The presidency could certainly do with more extended guitar solos.
Yeah nah. The last thing America needs is another musical president.

Oh for sure he was a sleaze but as far as POTUS go he wasn't particularly terrible.

And that's why I wonder, now that there's no moral standing to oppose him (well, and to be Trumpets at the same time), what the issue would be.

I know my parents hated Bill Clinton because he was a sleaze. But now that they have no moral standing any more, I wonder what the issue would be?

It would still be the same issue. Republicans have always held Democrats to a higher standard of "non sleazy" than they do their own. Hell, they gave David Vitter a standing ovation for not resigning after his sleaziness was exposed for all to see.

Clinton was a pretty good President and a sleaze.

Who says you can't do both? It's called multi-tasking.

To be clear: "Sleaze" in this context means "sexual harasser and abuser. Possibly a rapist." But you give Bill Clinton and his wife a pass because you desire certain political outcomes, even if you have to pursue them in bad faith.

I call you out for your bad faith. Tell me more about why you insist on electing scumbags because they cynically wave your flag for 4 to 8 years. And then condemn your opponents for doing the same thing.

I'm posting this here --related to Vance refusing to acknowledge trump lost in 2020 (Vance actually has said he thinks trump won) -- though this is currently being discussed in another thread. But saying he thinks trump won in 2020 is minor league stuff compared with his earlier bashing of trump.

  • Before running for office, Vance had a number of things to say about the former president — and even identified himself as a “Never Trump guy.” He said Trump was an “idiot” and compared Trump to “America’s Hitler.”
  • And in an op-ed in the New York Times, Vance said “Mr. Trump is unfit for our nation’s highest office.”
  • Vance said he was voting for a third party candidate over Trump [in 2016]. “I can’t stomach Trump,” Vance said in an NPR interview.

America's Hitler? Can't stomach trump? How to explain the difference between then and now. Simple. Three words:
"I was wrong"

Where he thinks he was wrong was in thinking that being America's Hitler was a bad thing.

Bright and early the morning after the vice presidential debate, Republican Congressman Mike Collins of Georgia shared a puzzling picture from his X account of GOP vice presidential candidate Senator JD Vance.
(Note, it was the one on the right. Who is that? Kent McCord from 1980?)
