The Internet Becomes Sentient

I didn't come here for a social experience, or to make friends, or to be scorned, or to hang out somewhere that I show off how smart I am by insult, I came to a place where I thought I could get answers to about something I can't explain. So far I am very disappointed. And I've thought about where else I can go. I don’t want to go to "the world's biggest conspiracy" website; I wanted to go somewhere I could get some answers. I came here.

I’m beginning to see maybe I should be somewhere else, too, I think a lot of you would agree for different reasons and with different destinations. You all are debunkers. I think I need actual scientists that can do things with computers, you know like those guys that are determining peoples emotions using facial scans. Find the guys that are doing the theoretical work two or three steps up from facial recognize thing. This is gonna be difficult.

Firstly, I am a scientist and also know a hell of a lot about computers. I work as a post-doctoral researcher at a University.

I think the important thing to realise is that there is a one-to-one mapping between the ASCII `question' and the Unicode `answer' that is completely deterministic.

Therefore, it would be possible for you (and not so hard) to convert between the two without a computer at all but just pen and paper and printed out sheets of both character sets.

Removing the computer from the equation cuts out any argument about the internet or any secret communication, and you'd still get the same results.

Is it then not reasonable to consider that you are simply doing your very best to achieve a meaningful translation from gibberish Chinese to something that makes sense to you? In effect, all that is happening is simply a mirroring of your own thoughts.

...The date I need to know is the date that the original NT version of notebook was programmed and the date that the Windows XP application that works with notepad.

Yes. There are alternatives until I find out the date of the original NT version of notepad.
...

Again I feel like pointing out the obvious: Have you considered an inquiry to Microsoft?
And I suggest you do it yourself to avoid data pollution.

Wikipedia says the notepad Unicode detection bug was first reported on May 18th. I just spent some time looking at websites about the Unicode bug, I couldn't find any web site that was dated before June 14th. I received the email on June 14th, two weeks ago. I found out that the symbols resulting from the notepad bug were Chinese symbols on the 15th. On the 16th I started translating stuff and writing it down, on the morning of the 18th the event happened (I could be a day off either way). The rest of the 18th and 19th I formed it as a story, the one at http://www.dreamslaughter.com/parasentient/paradoc.htm. On the 20th and for a few days, I emailing some and posting on some forums. Then it changed and I landed here.

Wiki does not always have its facts straight.

Here is a group discussing the weird bug way back in 2003

http://groups.google.com/group/micr...pad+Unicode+bug&rnum=1&hl=en#6082c3c80d3779ad

And another from 2002

http://groups.google.com/group/micr...ad+Unicode+bug&rnum=10&hl=en#24007efb3fb8e43f

Which points out that "hi mum how are you" also works so it seems to break the character pattern of 4-3-3-5

1997??

Not sure if this is referring to this specific bug

Yes. There are alternatives until I find out the date of the original NT version of notepad. Then the alternatives become much less likely. And even then I'm not saying that the Unicode bug is paranormal. The event was paranormal, not the software.

Well, I believe Win2k (released September 2000) will be the first version of notepad to show the issue, since that's when it started supporting unicode. I tested a Win98 and it didn't show anything unusual when opening the file. I may run into a computer that has Win2k sometime and verify it.

Of course, you could use any version of notepad to create the file, the bug appears when viewing it.

Also, as has been noted, the results you get are due to the bug in istextunicode() API and the CJK mapping, both which provably predate the events of 911 by over half a decade. Since the API was created in NT 3.5, there likely exists at least one program that will attempt to open that file, detect it as unicode, and display the same characters.

For those amused by bug history, the notepad bug has been known since Feb 2004: http://weblogs.asp.net/cumpsd/archive/2004/02/27/81098.aspx
Of course, since the example string given was the uninteresting ' abc.bak abc.txt' instead of 'bush hid the facts' it didn't get as much attention.

I did have trouble figuring it out. I read all the way through this thread and was confused as heck. I read your site, which didn't clarify very much. I started in on this thread before going to work at 10AM and didn't figure it out until just before I made that post at 1 AM the next day.

I am not sure how to explain what happened other than the article. It may be a difficult article to read and comprehend. It is not a recipe for how to make mashed potatoes. I think part of the problem is that some have been commenting on this without reading the article. Make a list of questions that you think everyone doesn’t understand and I will answer them. But some how, All those questions will be answered in the article.

Quite a few people have read your narrative. They did "check it out." One person figured out what your method. Lamulla (sp) I believe. Much credit to him, btw, or I think Randfan's head might have exploded.:D Then things started to make sense. No one but he understood your method, and you only have yourself to blame for that.

Yes, Lamulla, ran the output of the Unicode bug through the translator and got the same results I did, That was great, I think that was the first time anyone showed any kind of ability to follow what was going on. I can’t thank him enough. But how does Lamulla getting the same results that I did show me the errors of my ways?

You refuse to understand that the bug is an algorithm. If you plug certain things in, your results are spat back out mathmatically. You keep wanting to move on to the real issue.

Oh! - - - Are you telling me that the bug is an algorithm? - - - wow, that’s something. When you enter the letters of the alphabet individually into the Unicode, the algorithm spits back Chinese symbols that when translated are eerily similar to 911. Then the issue becomes, why is this happening.

Do you know anything about confirmation bias?
This is how you arrive at the conclusion that the chinese character for "rice" counts as a hit, but when you also got the chinese character for "mammoth" you didn't think much of it. After all, there is no one named Mammoth in Bush's innner circle.

This is true, this question was entered before things became paranormal and it was all just great fun, And mammoth is at the bottom of the list and was not close to the primary definition. And these were the answers to one of only two questions I asked using mixed letters. And I have no problem with this being a coincidence. But also do you realize that it is strange that under the paranormal event, I asked “who did it” three times. Here were the answers under the paranormal event:

‘Who did it?

A - rice; to husk rice; (ancient form of 禪) to sacrifice to heaven, the imperial power, as only the emperor was allowed to offer these sacrifices

‘Who did it?’

| - rice; mountain, hill, peak; basket used in state worship

‘Who did it?’

Z - get married; marriage, wedding; woman, girl; slave, servant, crafty, villainous, false; pregnant

Is there any chance you can see any thing unusual here? Somehow, I don’t think you will, but from my point of view that is pretty clear. And the fact that this matches opening question, that was already a coincident, when I asked “wtc who did it air z”. This was a mixed letter question, out of the paranormal state. I believe in coincidences, I also believe in coincidences that are unusual. At a minimum these answers are unusual, at a maximum the internet became parasentient to reveal the facts that bush hid.

Couple this normal, everyday psychological phenomenon with your recent indoctrination into 911 conspiracy disinformation and the fact that you were high on weed, and things seemed very freaky. Now it's been explained to you in great detail that nothing paranormal need have happened for you to have experienced this.

You're not crazy. You're not the internet's chosen one. You're not stupid. You just turned into Jon Stewart's version of the Enhancement Smoker from "Half Baked"

Yeah, here we go, I knew this was gonna be a problem for some. But just think about it for a moment. This did not affect what the translator did, it didn’t affect the words that I wrote down, I went back and verified most of them later. How can it affect this? The answers are here right now the same as before, they still are a list of 911 aspects, high or not. I never thought I was the chosen one, I think it could have happened to anyone that had all the correct things going on at the time.

Of course, since the example string given was the uninteresting ' abc.bak abc.txt' instead of 'bush hid the facts' it didn't get as much attention.

I am surprised that 'hi mum how are you' did not catch on like wildfire after being discovered in 2002.

It seems to have gone through a few uninteresting rounds before the tin foil hat crowd could really make it roll..

hi mum how are you
to dog cat pet
abc.bak abc.txt
this app can break
bush hid the facts

I would like to propose a simple test.

Five people post questions that they already know the answers to (e.g. What is my chosen career? What did I major in at uni? Who is responsible for the war memorial in my town? etc.) in this thread.

They send the answers to me via PM separately.

Sinsanity does whatever he has to do to get the internet to tell him the answers, and posts his final results.

I then post the contents of the PMs, along with my analysis of any correlations. Everyone will be encouraged to judge the results.

Note: This in no way represents an official action or test from the JREF.

Well?

It doesn’t work that way, I have never said that I can go the keyboard and get anything about anything. I think the way to do it is create some models of other events and compare them to this incident. Thanks for putting in a helping hand.

I think that will go a bit over poor Sinsanity's head. He/she has trouble enough handling how throughly his/her little idea has just been debunked ;).

Oh, I know exactly who you think Rice is. I had an answer ready, including a comeback to your little insult, but decided against it. After this post I refuse to participate in this thread any longer, because I have some concerns about where it is heading, and in particular about your state of mind.

I do apologize for any thing I may have said that caused you harm. That was not my intend, nor will it ever be.

I think you need to step away from all this for a while. Go back outside and enjoy the stars, and the other things you describe in your article. Attend the clinic you mentioned a few posts back. Leave the pc off for a while, and don't ask the internet any more questions. I believe you saw rationality for a short time, but this thread is picking up some momentum, and you are too deeply involved in it.

Yes, I was able to do that a bit ago. But I’m back. I agree, But I realize that I went over the edge about something, I fell, I went splat. Now it’s now and things are okay. I’ll get over it.

I feel this post shows a touch of compassion and I sincerely want to express my gratitude.

Thank you so much.

Yes. We see a list of possible meanings. You then choose the English word which makes the most sense to your understanding of the question.

We can do the same in English with out playing the translation game. We take a sentence like;
"I think you are wrong about the internet being sentient."
And we end up with a Yoda like declaration;
"I think, you survive harm more or less, the internet (a) person conscious."

Which could be read as an explanation, by the internet, of how it became a conscious person after most of us survived 9-11. If you were that way inclined. But at the end of the day it was just an artefact of this misuse of a thesaurus. This is exactly what you are doing with your word by word translations.

Which you were thinking about at the time you typed "Bush hid the truth" or whatever it was into notepad.

This is not a coincidence. You were thinking about it, so you made an answer to your question. This is why you can just type in a string of nonsense, and your oracle still answers the question you were thinking of.

Someone else wondering about what they should have for dinner will not interpret the answer in the same way.

Yes, and yes.

I understand what you are saying.

Thanks for a reasonable question.

:)

If some programmer manipulated the Unicode bug to output things about 911.

Eveyone here keeps talking about how it was all programmed before 911. I don't know if that is true. I'm sure the Kangxi index was there before 911, maybe a few revisions or additions, that's not the issue. The date I need to know is the date that the original NT version of notebook was programmed and the date that the Windows XP application that works with notepad.

Yes. There are alternatives until I find out the date of the original NT version of notepad. Then the alternatives become much less likely. And even then I'm not saying that the Unicode bug is paranormal. The event was paranormal, not the software.
Yes I realise you think the event was paranormal. You are putting weight on your options before you have the evidence before you. You think because your answers related to 9/11 then this must be the most likely explanation. Perhaps you could list all the words that got translated and then analyse them closely as to which you think are related to 9/11 and which are not. You may find that it's not much differnet than chance (50:50). If not, then analyse the words you think relate to 9/11 again and list how many of those words have more than one interpretation. For instance you place a lot of emphasis on the answer "rice" because I think you think it is Condoleezza Rice. But there are other meanings of course. If there are a high number of words with multiple interpretations you can't claim that there is a link to 9/11.

Sinsanity2006, if you really feel that only one post in this thread helped you, that's just too bad.

No, no, no, no.

I didn't say that, I have been thanking many many people all along.

roger, was the only one that showed me the method to get to the bottom of this. Please don't think others haven't helped. You all know who you are, I've tried to address everyone that helped. so many people have seriously spent time to give me their best thoughts on this. And even the ones that were confused, and didn't help, I truly think they were trying to help. There were a very few that were insulting, but their were a few, but please don't take that to be about more than a few.

I haven't bothered to read past page two, so apologies if this important point has already been covered.
Is that site called "Dream Slaughter" or "Dreams Laughter"?
D'ya think?

I think that was the point of the name. It has two sort of opposite names. Most people don't see two readings, Most people see Dream Slaughter. You're the first here to ask about it. It was used as a chat room handle. So you can use it either or or both. I say dreams laughter out loud.

If I were you, I would read the answers given here again. Not only was the notepad bug (which is really a windows bug, remember?) written (inadvertently) before 911, but the message in chinese signs was mapped to the string "bush hid the truth" as far back as 1987, when the Unicode was established. Don't you understand this? You are not getting a message, you are having a string of ASCII characters translated into Unicode. The reason it only works for some strings is just because they happen to be the only ones misinterpreted by Windows. You could make a program that translated ANY string from ASCII to Unicode, and it would ALWAYS give the same output for a given input, and would have done so right from 1987. Just like translating from letters to morse code would give the same result. (In fact such a "program" could just be a binary editor where you added the unicode tag to your text.)

And the internet doesn't come into it at all, since this also works on an offline computer. It will even work if you do it on a piece of paper.

Now, read slowly, and try to comprehend, OK?

Hans

Yes, thanks. Do you know where I can find out what the date of the NT notebook application, and the date of the parts of windows that implement notepad, that would help a lot. Do you know if the parts of windows that interfaces with notepad have a seperate date of release or creation date than the Windows install disk? This would really help a lot if you knew where I could research this information.

sinsanity:

would it be fair to say that this communication works in the same way as something like i ching? Your physical input (leaving aside the questions you ask in your head when you make it) is random, and you discern meaning from what is returned?

If so, do you see that your presence in this process as interpreting agent allows you to, consciously or unconsciously, exert selection bias on your translations?

Yes, And at some time I'm gonna find a random person that is familar with the 911 conspiracies and ask him to look at the answers and tell me if there is a relation more than random, then I'm gonna give the same answers to someone familiar with the titanic conspiracies and see if he thinks it looks random, and so on. Then I will know if something happened.

I don't ask the computer anything now, I've asked one question since the event, That asked what the winning lotto ticket was. It didn't give me the winning number. So don't talk about this in the present tense, that is incorrect.

I'm still getting a kick out of someone who thinks the name "Rice" would be translated as a word that means rice, rather than a phrase that would phonetically sound like "Rice".

I also wonder if he would have gotten different answers to his various questions if he had used the same phrase in Notepad each time. There's a test...ask your questions, but always use "XXXX XXX XXX XXXXX" as your phrase...see if your answers are different.

This was a one time event. If I put the same letter or character in the bug, it will always come back the same. There are different translators out there, that give slightly different words, but generally they are similar, I used this translator:

http://perso.orange.fr/gaoling/hanzi/index.htm

Baloney. The words are not ambiguous to anyone that knows about the 911 controversy.
Sorry, then nothing will. I expected much more from you. I am severly dissappointed.

Baloney.

There are many people here who know more about the 911 "controversy" than you ever will. Check out some other thread on this forum. They realize that your special words are not specific to 911, but could be about many other situations or events.

Most of the rest of your post is gibberish. You're starting to sound unhinged.

I hope you follow through with your claim of getting therapy.

I believe there are people here that can figure this out and tell me what happened.
It has been done, over and over. No one other than you has any difficulty whatsoever understanding what has happened. There are at least 3 competent computer people who have given you an explanation that is unasailable.
