The Gospel

Kathy, God's morals need soem re-examination, don't you thing? Let's look in Genesis...
19:30 And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.
19:31 And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth:
19:32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
19:33 And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
19:34 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
19:35 And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
19:36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.
19:37 And the first born bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day.
19:38 And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.
I'd appreciate your opinion on this extract. And there will be more, btw.

I feel sorry for you guys if your own reality is knocking believers. His sheep do hear his voice, but it seems skeptics and pagans are the hardest to reach.
What are you going to say when you meet your maker and he asks you what did you do with my son? On that day there will be no excuses, " the 2nd death will be worse than the first!"
Why do you choose to stay blind?
It's so sad that people who think they are so well read and smart can't believe in the gospel. Jesus came to teach us how to live,"the word made flesh," he died so we could live!
Everything outside of Christ leads to death. Why do worldly people struggle with this fact? Not fiction or myth...He's alive!

Damn, I was with you til you said the gospel. I thought for sure you were gonna say Koran.

Now I'm confused.

Should I be blind to allah or jesus??

How can the muslims be wrong given their willing to strap themselves up with explosives for their beliefs?

And, hey, they got virgins and fruit in heaven. Sounds like a better deal to me...

If you could explain the morality of these bible versus I'd seriously consider abandoning my atheism!

Kings 2:23: And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head.

Kings 2:24: And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

***

So, 42 *little children* make fun of this Elisha guy because he has a bald head. God's punishment-- bears maul them to a violent death. God (Jesus' loving father!) sees fit to "tare" apart 42 little human beings for the most ignorant reason imaginable.

How come the fundy's don't want this passage (unlike the 10 commandments) hanging in our schools? Surely unruley kids today would benefit from a zero-tolerance discipline policy like this. Hell, they wouldn't even need discipline, if it wasn't for the atheists taking prayer out of our schools!

I Challenge any Christian to spin this in a way that's not *pure* evil. If your God exists, and is capable of this, he's not worth worshipping. In fact, he should be despised. QED.

Here's a concluding irony: Would you rather die (for just a weekend!) in a three hour crucifixion, or die (forever, and presumably rot in hell for eternity) by having two bears tear you apart?

Isn't Sylvia Browne the one that say's she's a phsycic Christian? That's not ok if you ask me she isn't testing the spirits? I have been faced with many occult issues from my past and God has really been showing me the truth and it's just by standing on his word! Have you ever even read the Bible?
God says if we seek him we will find him, just seems everyone is seeking mans wisdom rather than God's these days. I had to seek him with all my heart because I really felt I was mislead in the past by everything else out there, and I've tried almost everything. Self help books, new age beliefs, ect....
Now I believe there is absolute truth. I just wish there were more people that could have that kind of conviction.
And I really don't understand why the Gospel should offend anyone?I personally ended up confused by all that other junk out there. Now I know who God is and he is not the author of confusion, but look around you, what do you see? Just curious?

Jesus had a really bad weekend for your sins.

Wish I was the first to say that...

Many times. And not just John 3:16, either. I've read all of it, cover to cover, many times.

Have you?

Oh, why do I bother, I know you'll never have the guts to reply.

Haven't we already told you that we don't find the gospels offensive at all? It's people like you we find offensive.

This is fun. It's like kicking a fundie christian puppy.

Kathy are you going to answer anything or just preach?

Luk 10:21 In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.
So God is sort of a prankster eh?

She's a fresh starry-eyed born-again convert who has only read a few cherry picked passages out of the bible. She has no idea what to answer.

Hmm. That's an optimistic assessment. I would have guessed she's 13 and finding this all very amusing.

If you crack open the Weekly World News, you'll find lots of self-described Christian psychics. Hey, there's a market for it.

Have you ever even read the Bible?

Yes. All of the Pentateuch, (and assorted Old Testament books), all the gospels, part of Acts, about half of the Epistles, and Revelation. In two languages (French and English). Oh, also a couple of Gnostic gospels and epistles. You?

God says if we seek him we will find him, just seems everyone is seeking mans wisdom rather than God's these days. Well, if God didn't hide so well, maybe more people would find him.

Now I believe there is absolute truth. I just wish there were more people that could have that kind of conviction.

No, you don't. You really, really don't. Because it's people with that kind of conviction that crashed planes into the World Trade Center. It's people with that kind of conviction who have killed and tortured unbelievers and heretics throughout history.

And I really don't understand why the Gospel should offend anyone?I personally ended up confused by all that other junk out there. Now I know who God is and he is not the author of confusion, but look around you, what do you see? Just curious?

I see thousands of Christian sects and denominations and churches, each with their own take on what God says and wants. I see fanatics ready to kill and die (preferably in that order) because they believe it's God's will--and their worst hatred is reserved for heretics, their brothers and neighbours who read the same holy book but disagree slightly about what it means.

I don't find the gospels offensive, kathy. I've read them, just as I've read other religious and mythological writing. What I do find offensive is you presuming to tell us what we think, second-guessing our motivations, not reading our replies, and generally being both ignorant and condescending.

I applaud you.:D

Now, someone post a good recipe, please. Puss is starving.

May we assume that all of those cover-to-cover Bible readings have been in the past couple of months, since that time you suggested in another thread (if memory serves) that the Bible gives Mary's age as 12 at the time of Jesus' conception?

Nah, I'm just giving you a hard time. :D

We are told he is not willing that any should perish and hopes all will come to believe in what he did on the cross and repent. If we believe and call on him he is faithful to save us. But it takes a open mind , heart, and childlike faith!
Faith comes by hearing the word of God. People read all kinds of books that smart men have wrote , so why question the inspired word of God? The Bible
In fact the more I read the more I know he is true to his word. His spirit bears witness with mine to reveal his truth, AWESOME!

Funny the more I read the bible the more I wanted to gouge my eyes out.

Hardest for whom? You or God? I know you couldn't possibly be implying that there is a task that God has a difficult time accomplishing.

Better than counting sheep, I tell ya!
