Then again, we don't know what side of the border she was on. Maybe she was locking herself out.

Cartoon logic actually sums up fascism pretty well. May I add how trumpkins thought they could literally wall off the Mexican border, and that it would be an effective measure against illict border crossings? Big, simple, flashy solutions. If trumpkins wanted a solution to climate change it'd probably be to build a giant vacuum cleaner to suck in all the Co2.

  • After coordinating with the Trump White House, chipmaker Nvidia announced it would invest hundreds of billions of dollars over the next four years in U.S.-based manufacturing operations.
I wonder if you're even aware that Nvidia chips and GPUs are a critical component in cryptocurrency operations.

Just in case there's still any mystery around why this is happening.

it’s also a major component in ai which is turning out to be as big of a scam as all this other tech crap.

Weird how this scam is already so hugely useful to so many people in so many was. Usually they're just a waste of money.

Yeah... greatly useful to telemarketing groups in India. They call me up to tell me about it 20 times a day. It usually has to do with someone that doesn't provide Medicare part B services in my area to get me to sign up for services that I would have to drive to NYC to use (I'm in Kansas). Of course, I'm not old enough for Medicare yet, so I don't even qualify. But they keep calling, anyway.

For full disclosure, it's definitely a recorded or synthetic voice, but I can't exactly tell whether there's somebody pushing buttons in the background or if it's AI. I can tell it's from India because I can hear voices in the background at a call center and am pretty good at picking out that accent.

I absolutely refuse to be bullied into not answering my own damn phone, though. You know why? I know someone personally that spent 3 days in jail for a very minor offense because he wasn't able to contact anyone to post bail. Everyone just assumed his calls were a scam and didn't answer.

But anyway, if you don't know that pretty much half our economy is essentially a scam nowadays, you aren't paying attention. Indian telemarketing doesn't even scratch the surface. But they've (by "they" I mean mostly people that will stop at nothing in search of short-term money... not a conspiracy per se) compromised every single method of communication we've got in this country in some fashion or other.... phones, the news, social media, etc.

And that is EXACTLY the sorts of people that AI is being developed to benefit. It's primarily a mass-marketing tool.

Oh, and it's probably a pretty good tool for techno-fascists, as well. After answering every single one of those calls for something like 6 months now, I can't think of any better way to drive someone completely nuts.... which is exactly what you have to be to actually support the current regime. Our society is basically being overrun by the emotionally unstable. That's the only possible explanation for the results of the last election.

An operation started by the Biden admin in 2023.

They worked for Radio Free Europe. Which DOGE has just defunded. So they are out of a job now. Thanks, Trump!

It involves billions in promised investment in foreign ◊◊◊◊-hole countries. But USAID has been shuttered too. So...nothing. also, UAR is investing in a LOT of other countries for AI.

Softbank, the ailing and failing owner of Alibaba, etc. Good pick!

India already produces AI software. USA has Grok. So in effect, the US is outsourcing AI development to India. Not Made In USA jobs after all. Thanks, Trump!

A lie. From state sources...

They are going to invest in chip foundries in the USA because of Trump's tariff disasters with Asia. Expect them to be up and running in two weeks tops. ;)

The USA had bugger all to do with it. It was all Iraq.

Correct.
Remember anything better than

is luxury.

Obviously phones are a scam since they can be misused for this kind of abuse.
Only if the phone company is paying for it to happen so that they can sell their premium service that screens such calls. I'm not saying that's the case (don't think it is), particularly because I'm talking about the landline. But that's the mindset of the modern economy. Point being that it's more valuable to harass your customers and then offer the solution to a problem you actually created than it is to serve them.

President Trump moved on Thursday to punish the law firm WilmerHale, where Robert S. Mueller III worked before and after he served as special counsel in the Trump-Russia investigation, expanding his widespread campaign of retribution.

In an executive order, Mr. Trump hit the elite firm with many of the same penalties that he had applied to its competitors who had taken on cases or causes he did not like.

He directed the cancellation of all government contracts with WilmerHale, and the suspension of any security clearances of its employees. The order also barred WilmerHale employees from federal buildings, banned them from communicating with government employees and prevented them from being hired at government agencies.

Let's revisit the checklist two months in.

1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism
Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.
This has technically been true in the US for a very long time. What's new is the widespread display of MAGA-specific flags, stickers, etc. Rather like the swastika last time.

2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights
Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.
Opposition to due process, pardons for insurrectionists, snatching people who have done nothing wrong off the street and disappearing them without due process, etc.

3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause
The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.
Yup. 'Woke', the trans agenda, immigrants smuggling fentanyl, communists, activist judges, etc. Every target and opponent of the regime are lumped into boxes marked with meaningless buzzwords people are taught to hate and fear.

4. Supremacy of the Military
Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.
Like 1, this has been the case for a long time in the States, along with a semi-militarized police force that does what it wants.

5. Rampant Sexism
The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy.
'DEI hires', working against workplace equality measures, bragging about SA, mysogonistic remarks, etc.

6. Controlled Mass Media
Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.
Worse than the first time. He's gone from bullying the media to seemingly actively working to censor and restrict them, with up to several outlets already falling in line.

7. Obsession with National Security
Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.
Yup.

8. Religion and Government are Intertwined
Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.
Haven't seen Dump do this as much as one could maybe expect.

9. Corporate Power is Protected
The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.
Yup.

10. Labor Power is Suppressed
Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed .
He'll probably try to abolish minimum wage and unions soon.

11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts
Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts is openly attacked, and governments often refuse to fund the arts.
Just wait for the Department of Education to be defunded.

12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment
Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.
Yup. This time cranked up to 11.

13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption
Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.
Yup.

14. Fraudulent Elections
Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.
Already he's going after election laws. 2026 and 2028 will be highly interesting.
