The DeSantis gambit

So let me get this straight:
A woman shouldn't be able to make a medical decision about her own body, but moron anti-vaxxers can send their unvaccinated kids to school, like splashing gasoline on a fire, just to prove a political point?
******* needs to be slapped.

Pretty much FL GOP 'rational' thinking there!

No, no, this is fine! Send the unvaccinated little bastards to school to catch the disease. They will take it home, and the unvaccinated adults will catch it too. Of course, measles in adults is a killer. But who's being infected? MAGA-nuts.

So good riddance to bad rubbish. Yep, I'm beyond caring about them now.

They will still TRY to get infected out of perverse spite.
No, I think Mongrel has a point. Try or not, they're likely to fail, and to kill their children while enjoying the immunity they claim to despise. And likely, after burdening the health care system with their bad choices, they'll whine and find some way to blame others for it.

Quite true; I agree. That's why I emphasised "try". You have outlined the probable outcome neatly.

The problem with Pre-Covid vaccine deniers is that they've probably already had the vaccines. Most of them are fighting the contrarian war by proxy

And have no first hand knowledge of what it was like before we had vaccines for these "childhood" diseases so they think it's a couple of paracetamols and a day in bed and everyone is cured and all OK.

I had measles in 1960 when I was 8 years old. I was on holiday in darkest Pembrokeshire with some friends and their parents.
I was really ill and spent 10 days isolated in a dark bedroom at the local district nurse's cottage. I don't know what the rationale was behind that treatment but I guess it was because I was a massive risk to everyone around me.
One of the worst experiences of my life. I wish that sort of fun on every anti-vaxxer and see what they think after.

Of course the problem is that other people will carch it too. Germs and viruses don't care about politics.
But yeah, this is just part of revolt agains science..and yes, I blame rthe Christian FUndies for a lot of it.

One word for them: polio

My older brother and I were both fully vaccinated, with no issues, but for the last several years before she retired my mother did administrative work in a chiropractor's office. He was one of the anti-vaccination subluxation types and he was able to partly convert her. She's from an era when girls weren't expected to receive a science education, and she treated it as a shocking revelation that "when you get a vaccine they're injecting you with the disease", not knowing that's how the immune system works.
She also now likes to tell the story of a classmate from her childhood who "got the polio vaccine and then ended up in an iron lung", ignoring the possibility that she already had polio when she received the vaccine and hadn't developed symptoms yet, or the fact that it just wasn't 100% effective at the time.

I keep seeing headlines about a cruise ship with suspected cholera. Cholera. As a species we're doomed if we can't even pull together enough to kill our predators.

Or that's she's misremembered her childhood in a way that agrees with her current prejudices.

Hey, I am expecting smallpox and the bubonic plague to make comebacks also.

As of 1980 smallpox has been completely eliminated as a disease on this planet. Samples of the virus are still stored in a few research labs however.

True, and most of us no longer have immunity to it as they stopped vaccinating for it decades ago. If it ever gets released as a bio-weapon, it will spread like the plague. My grandmother barely survived it when she was 17.
