The DeSantis gambit

From the AP article:

"Trump himself addressed DeSantis’ departure shortly after it was announced during a stop at Manchester campaign headquarters, according to a video shared by his staff.

"“We just got some word that one of our opponents, very capable person, is dropping out of the race — Ron DeSantis. And Ron is dropping out and, in doing so, he endorsed us,” Trump said to cheers, before a “Trump!” chant broke out in the room of volunteers.

"Asked if he would be using the nickname “Ron DeSanctimonious”: “I said that name is officially retired,” he said to loud cheers.'"

Hmm, Trump retracting something? Bloody hell. Imagine a Trump/De Santis presidency! :boggled: :covereyes :jaw-dropp

Trump didn't retract it; he's just not going to use it any longer. Apparently, DeSantis went from being a loser to 'very capable' overnight.

And that's what the MAGa crowd love about him, that he's so transparent. If you're against him then you're horrible and as soon as you're for him you're great. It's simple black an white thinking.

Over a year ago I asked the question if DeSantis could be going for VP under Trump:

They're both from Florida, which is a constitutional problem. Electors are constitutionally prohibited from voting for both a President and Vice President from their own state.
That means in a very close election, you could wind up with President Trump and Vice President Harris.

Isn't also the case that both the President and VP slate for a party cannot both be from the same state?

Or maybe he can pretend to be a RC and claim pulling out is the only method he's allowed...

Despite Meatball Ron endorsing Stubby McBonespurs, it seems all is not happy within the republican party.

From: NBC News
The Trump campaign reached out to DeSantis world through "high-level channels," on Sunday with an invitation to appear at a campaign stop. Another Trump adviser confirmed the outreach and said they never heard back.
...
DeSantis posted on the social media site X that he would likely veto legislation in Florida that would set aside $5 million in taxpayer dollars for politicians who live in Florida and are "subject to political discrimination to pay legal fees."

Given how foolish Ron DeathSentence is with taxpayer money, you would figure him redirecting money to defend Trump in court would be right up his alley. "What, a way to waste government money to make a political point? Sign me up!". But I guess you pile on names like "Meatball Ron" and "Ron Desanctimonious" and some people are going to get their feelings hurt.

DeSantis' cultural war rages on:

Ron DeSantis condemned as Florida removes sociology as core college class

Educators are warning that college enrollment in Florida will plummet after the state removed sociology as a core class from campuses in the latest round of Ron DeSantis’s war on “woke ideology”.
The Republican governor’s hand-picked board of education voted on Wednesday to replace the established course on the principles of sociology at its 12 public universities with its own US history curriculum, incorporating an “historically accurate account of America’s founding [and] the horrors of slavery”.
The board faced a backlash last summer for requiring public schools to teach that forced labor was beneficial to enslaved Black people because it taught them useful skills.

The removal as a required core course of sociology classes, which Florida education commissioner and staunch DeSantis acolyte Manny Díaz insisted without evidence had “been hijacked by leftwing activists”, follows several other recent “anti-woke” moves in education in Florida.

They include the banning an advanced placement class in African American studies, and last week’s board ruling crystalizing a plan by DeSantis, who dropped out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination over the weekend, to abolish diversity, enquiry and inclusion (DEI) programs in Florida’s universities and colleges.

The American Sociological Association said there was no evidentiary basis for replacing the sociology course.

“This decision seems to be coming not from an informed perspective, but rather from a gross misunderstanding of sociology as an illegitimate discipline driven by ‘radical’ and ‘woke’ ideology,” the American Sociological Association said in a statement to the Guardian.

“Sociology is the scientific study of social life, social change, and the social causes and consequences of human behavior, which are at the core of civic literacy and are essential to a broad range of careers.

Isn't he opening the state education system up for a class-action lawsuit from parents or students whose education is being devalued?

Why don't the boards of the 12 public universities simply ignore this stupid directive and the hand-picked goon-squad, develop and offer proper curricula, and include whatever subjects they believe are necessary and good for their students.

What are the board going to do about it if they did? Try and turn up and disrupt classes personally? Send in the state police to ditto? I understand universities have their own police forces of some sort. So would there be a stand-off at the gate? Such a confrontation would be hardly something that pathetic loser De Santis would like splashed around in the media just now. My bet would be, instead, he would withhold funding to try to make them cave. Which is another loser tactic if it was publicised widely right from the start. "MEATBALL RON SNOWFLAKES AGAIN! DEFUNDS COLLEGE EDUCATION IN A SNIT!"

Another alternative is a state-wide strike by all public education staff. Florida's education system is in such a mess already, a strike would probably be a relief for the students. Better than teaching them the cock-eyed half-baked pile of possum-poo that is being forced on them now by the De Santis Ministry of Truth. Maybe they could revert to being taught properly by remote, like during COVID.

Anyway, De Santis needs another massive dick-punch right now is all I am saying.

I doubt it. These are state-run universities, nobody is forced to enroll there. It will mostly affect students who are pursuing a degree in sociology or a related field. They can transfer to other universities, but it will be a pain in the ass for them. Being a pain in the ass is what Rhonda Santis excels at.
