The deadly potential of dowsing

The dowser thinks of his target, water flowing, black phone lines or what ever and (here is the clincher) he, she, expands his, her thoughts to remotely see the hidden target ,third eye stuff. I can select my target and ignore all others.

I've often wondered about how a dowser's rods would behave if they change their mind about what they're dowsing for: "I'm looking for water," rods cross. "Now I'm looking for electrical cables," rods uncross. Cross, uncross, cross, uncross. It'd be like looking at windscreen wipers.

Optus had me marking water mains just last week so to dodge digging them up with a new trench.

Are you in Australia, Old Bob? If so, whereabouts?

Yes , north of Nambour about 20 ks SW. of Noosa. Not cold here like Canberra. And just for fun you can get North-South with dowsing rods.

G'day Old Bob

You may not be interested in challenging the Australian Skeptics for their $110,000 prize, but have you tried out their self-test? I'd be interested to know how you go with this series of graded challenges:

= = = =

Divining Self Test – Results

1A. Fill large bottle with water, place on lawn. Walk past it and see if your divining rod responds to it.

1B. If water does not work, try other objects, eg gold jewelry, copper wire, minerals. Or try a different area. Try divining again. Does the rod respond?

2A. Cover object with upside down cardboard box or plastic bucket. Try divining again. Does the rod still respond?

2B. If no response, try different cover. Try divining again. Does the rod respond?

3A. Place 2 similar boxes or buckets on lawn. Place object under one of them. Try divining again. Is there a distinct response for the correct box?

3B. If indistinct, place further apart, or try a different place. Try divining again. Is there a distinct response for the correct box?

4. Get an assistant to place object under one box while you are watching. Try divining again. Does it respond at all? To the correct box?

5. Instruct your assistant to do the following while you are out of sight: Toss a coin and place object under left box if heads, and right box if tails, then call you back. Try divining again. Does it respond? To the correct box?

6. Same as above, but instruct your assistant to stand out of sight while you are divining. Try divining again. Does it respond? To the correct box?

6B. Repeat the above 4 more times. Write score out of 5.

Back again, My kids have done this sort of thing with me, don't get top marks on small objects. But have found that other minds affect. Two friends middle aged can hold the rods and think of nothing(hard to do) and all three of us can move the rods in other hands, and distance doesn't matter. Another (young woman) could hold the rods and we all could do nothing as she was mentally unknowingly blocking us. Strange stuff I'm ready "woo woo"

You're obviously relying on your dowsing too much, as you seem a little lost in Queensland. From your post on the 29th May
We now live near Gympie which is rich in gold bearing reef
About 60kms off as the crow flies by my reckoning.

If I was Optus, I'd double-check where you've marked that water mains....:covereyes

WOW! I was just reading “what’s the harm” about dowsing and I had no clue Doctors use those BS rods too. What a shame that is. They spend 8 years in college and the best thing they can think of is to use dowsing rods? Really? I mean you would think they would verify that medical dowsing works before using it. A simple test really. Have a double blind test where 10 people come in with different medical problems (maybe 1 or 2 with none). Then have the Doctor use the rods and say what is wrong with each the people only using the rods. If he is wrong then the rods are garbage.

How does that work?

Here we go trying to describe "War & Peace" in 10 words. Dowsing takes concentration and it fatigues. (me anyway) Even to loose the humble feeling and may be show off a bit is enough to spoil results. To be paid a rate and have to preform on Que is just too distracting, plus usually having a mob of disbelievers snickering is why I won't work for money, just quietly with benign onlookers. Ehocking, whats with the snide remarks on location? Gympie is to the north of us,not far shop there sometimes, Nambour is south and although it's not your concern we are west of the coast. It would be very interesting to see what walks of life beleivers and knockers come from, have found that I don't get on with bureaucraps.

Sounds like those audio woo-woos that say that they can tell the difference between wire anything, that is until they are tested correctly in a DBT.

Paul

:) :) :)

The word is BS

But isn't that what you're doing? Being paid a rate to find phone cables on cue?

I'm not suprised Optus still leases most of it's phone cables from Telstra with practices like that. And why would Optus need a dowser? It's only been around for a bit more than a decade. Surely it hasn't lost the records of where it's put it's cables already.

Complex Electrical Forces

Electricity in the earth is governed by Ohm’s Law:

I = E

What the hell? Ohms law is I = V/R (Current = Voltage divided by Resistance) and P = VI (Power = Voltage times Current). It's in every electrical textbook written.

Sepp Hasslberger said:
3. Conducted Current Density, I, is the vector quantity of current passing through a unit area of an equipotential surface; it is the product of the electrical conductivity and the electric field intensity. This density changes markedly as electric currents flow towards highly conductive materials and around highly resistive ones. The rods seek an equilibrium position with I.

This didn't make much sense at first, but as I read further it appears that they're claiming the rods line up with the magnetic fields produced by electric currents flowing through the earth like iron filing lining up to the flux lines of a magnet.

That's theoretically possible, but in order for it to work there needs to be a huge amount of current flowing through the earth, which in turn means huge voltages. Anyone trying to dig in the ground would be zapped with a couple of million volts.

Also, the rods would still move when nobody was touching them. mount them on a stand so they can freely swivel, and see if they still line themselves up.

It's all very silly.

Gas or electric ain't nuthin'. There are folks advocating dowsing for landmines. You know, "to protect the children of war-torn villages". And, presumably, to sell dowsing pendulums.

At the U., I have witnessed the groundskeepers locate a buried pipe using the detailed blueprints the gubmint has painstakingly put together... then "verify" the location of said pipe with a pair of bent wires.

*sigh*

But, Mercutio, it works soooo much better that way!

Optus line laying foreman, local bloke. Asked me to check the to be trenched area as council records are nonexistent which I did as a favour, water main branch marked, plus a few other things and trench is completed with no problems. He said their dowser was away that day. These trench diggers still use dowsing for water mains. Cable is found with ele. sensor and he said his cost $5000 and mine cost 10 cents, we had a laugh end of story.

The two wells in our village house were "discovered" by dowsing. Of course, you could not dig without finding water at about 8-9 meters.

Curiously, nobody has managed to find a waterpipe that runs through the yard but everyone forgot where it is.

Also, a guy who claimed really amazing dowsing skills managed to dig a well that is still totally dry. It's an achievement in itself.

Just a comment on the accuracy of dowsing in the context of 60km being "near".

If it's none of my concern - don't volunteer the information. I was only quoting what you posted.

You know my vocation and experience.

As others have asked, how do you know she was "mentally unknowingly blocking" you?

Sounds like a good excuse for an experiment - find out how far away can she be and still block you, and see if you can work out how far away she is when you can't see her.

I get concerned when people glom onto the first explanation for a problem which makes the situation someone else's fault.

So many excuses have been presented in this thread for why dowsing might not work in a given situation: distraction, fatigue, monetary stress, presence of unbelievers.

Assuming all these possible causes of failure, it seems to me that dowsing would be inherently unreliable. Therefore, why should anyone ever rely on it?
