The consequences are misplaced records.

I don't give an F about legal statutes. I don't judge people by some legal standard I didn't write.

I agree that Biden should be subject to the devastating consequences of your disapproval, even it means he resigns the presidency and his political career is over. Go get him, Bob.

This is just insane. Really. How ******* stupid...

Whenever there is even a slight chance for something to stick on Trump, something else comes a long and he is save again. I'm so sick of it.

After all the **** Trump did, the thing with the documents is really bad on a legal level. But now Biden?

Who the **** is writing this script? This movie is insane.

This doesn't save Trump from anything. Even if an investigation determines that Biden violated the law, that doesn't mean Trump then gets a pass. Exoneration because someone else also committed a crime isn't a thing.

It means that now there will be practically no one on the GOP side that wants to investigate Trump, and instead they will all want to investigate Biden for absolutely anything they can think of.

... oh wait, thats how it was before anyways.

Oh no, fodder for Republicans! The usually restrained and reasonable GOP finally has something to criticize Biden and the Democrats for after years of not at all being unhinged lunatics who weaponize the most innocuous things!
This ^

And this ^

And the news media as well as some people in this thread get sucked right down the GOP rabbit hole.

You really think they are going to investigate and convict the former and the current POTUS at the same time for the same crime?
While they are both running for the next election?

That movie is not going to happen.

No ******* way.

May as well poke at this -

Attorney General Merrick Garland appoints special counsel to handle Biden documents

Garland is appointing a special counsel. Former United States Attorney Robert K. Hur has been tapped for the role

<snip>

If you had any doubt about this — Robert Hur was appointed as a U.S. attorney by Donald Trump. He’s a former clerk for Rehnquist.

<snip>

Hur is currently an attorney at the D.C. office of white shoes law firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. If you’ve heard of that firm before, it may be because it was the former home of a Judge Aileen Cannon, the judge who repeatedly protected Trump and whose rules were ultimately quashed by the appeals court.

Sorta makes me feel like the DoJ is almost raring to go at the specter of taking down a Democratic President, after being so overtly shy of dealing with a former Republican President.

I notice the lack of the words "secret" & "classified" in the posts about Biden's "documents" mi-quoque...

I doubt the "raring to go" suspicion but it does piss me off how quick Garland was to appoint this special council compared to the still ongoing foot-dragging dealing with Trump.

I can only hope Garland's goal is to clear the Biden faux pas off his desk but I can't help thinking this is more of the same: bend all the way over backward in order to look apolitical.

I'm sure that classified documents are misplaced quite often. I know from my military experience that it happens. The proper thing to do is to report it to the proper authorities and return it. Depending on what classification it is, they will do an assessment and determine further actions. It should be noted that not all classified documents have information that is damaging should it be made public. The government often over classifies documents.
I believe many prior office holders in government have found misplaced classified documents and did the proper thing. Most are not punished. Most are warned to be more careful.

The only reason Garland was ever in the spotlight was because Obama was trolling the GOP. Not because he was in any way desirable as a nominee.

The Democratic party thinking it was a win to put that guy in any sort of independent policy making position because the GOP was mean to him, well, yeah.

I agree that it will not happen. I believe that it should, though. Trump is a criminal and political considerations shouldn't play a factor in the DOJ's decisions.

perfect timing for the Dems for this to come to light and be forgotten again.
It's not like Trumpers would ever, ever admit that something their Dear Leader did was wrong, or that Biden could ever, ever be right in doing anything.
So no loss whatsoever.

Can't beleiver how people are freaking out over what Garland did.
If he had'nt GOP would be screaming it shows the Trump investigatin was politically motivated.
Hate to say it,but some people here have political blinders as bad as those the Trumpers have.

And if Garland did not do this, the GOP would have a field day saying the Trump investigatin was politically motivated.
But keep on those political blinders.

And I don't thiun Biden..or any president, should get a free pass the way some people here think.
I know that makes me a doubleplus ungood crimethinker, but I am used to that.

Just curious, have you noticed that despite Garland's actions the GOP is still screaming that the Trump investigation is politically motivated? It's almost like they would scream that anyway...just like they did for every other investigation into Trump's illegal or improper activities.

I am betting Garland knows these documents were planted by someone in the Secret Service still loyal too Trump.
