The Biblical Realities of Hell

To be separated from something that isn't there, how is this a bad thing.

Paul

:) :) :)

That's what separated means, nothing is there.
I'm in agreement with atheists there will be nothingness and it's biblical.

No it doesn't, I'm not separated from you so-called god and/or Peter Pan.

Paul

Ok, read this page, couldn't help myself....

aaagh! How old were you? traumatizing.....but a great example. Why am I laughing? Does this mean I'm going to hell?

With all the metaphors I've heard from religious relatives and pastors and priests at weddings, I can't believe this simple sentence never popped into my head.

First, it's not a scary thought. I don't know why condescending religious fanboys have this locked in their minds. It doesn't scare, or even make us nervous. The idea is simply ludicrous, and such an obvious creation of frightened, gullible, arrogant human imaginations as to be rejected out of hand, or after close examination, whichever.

Second, you're right. Bad vibe doesn't have the knowledge that God exists. But news flash, neither do you! You have a faith, a belief, a hunch, a feeling, a hope, a tingle, a void, a need, a want, a desire, a requirement and even an imperative, but the last fuxking thing you have is knowledge of God's existence. To say you have such knowledge is the tantamount of arrogance, or stupidity, or both. On the topic of knowledge, I believe no human can truly know anything other than a) individually, they exist and b)what is commonly observed and verifiable by evidence that is repeatable.
Where did you glean this knowledge? In church, after murmuring prayers for hours straight, working yourself into a state where you 'felt' God? In confessional, when the Father arbitrarily absolved you of all sins in exchange for some prayers and maybe a donation? Through your entire life's experience, to which you are completely subjective, and yet were somehow able to extract objective truths?

Thirdly, that's a colossal piece of arrogance you're touting. An omniscient being that created trillions of stars and all of space time, and all of the possible forms of life, and goings on, wants a personal relationship with each and every individual human? Nevermind that in the unlikely event that God is as you say, and is in everything, including me, I can't think of a more personal relationship than being me, the food I eat and later excrete. Forget that. Isn't it far more likely that a human created and maintained organization wants our money and devotion, and to keep us believeing this tripe? seems to be the way it's gone for the last millenia or so.

No organization is needed.

In bold above,
When I was like you, so not where so much but when.
You say:
Thirdly, that's a colossal piece of arrogance you're touting. An omniscient being that created trillions of stars and all of space time, and all of the possible forms of life, and goings on, wants a personal relationship with each and every individual human?

Your idea of God is small and mean.

If he created all those things then it follows that he created us.
The stars can't talk to him.

And like i told Paul;
I'm in agreement with atheists there will be nothingness and it's biblical.
It doesn't matter to who it may apply.

So you are in agrement that there will be nothingness, when there is nothing to be had?

What is this "it's biblical" BS? Please stop mentioning the Bible as if it's something that should immediately command some respect. It doesn't.

The people who created god were small and mean. He's a reflection of the men who created him in their image.

If he created all those things then it follows that he created us.

First, that's a mighty big IF. If he created those things....then absolutely anything would be possible because none of the physical laws of the universe would apply.

Second, following from what I wrote above, there's no reason that the stars couldn't talk to your god. If all the rules that we know are suspended, including the realities of physical space and time, then there's no reason to think that an omnipotent creator god couldn't communicate on some level with absolutely any of his creations, from the largest galaxies down to the smallest viruses and bacteria. Why does everything in the universe center on human beings? The very belief that we supercede everything else is extremely arrogant.

The nothingness to which atheists refer has nothing to do with the bible. Just because a book may get a couple of things right (out of thousands) doesn't mean that it's a true or good book.

Biblical reality is a self-contained reality.

Like the Harry Potter universe in the books.

The potterverse makes more sense; at least it was all written at about the same time, by the same author, and borrows freely from familiar sources, or at least sources familiar to the crowd that reads stories about wizards.

The self contained reality of the bible is mythologies from various centuries and cultures, jammed together.

If he created all those things then it follows that he created us. The stars can't talk to him.
How can the omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent creator and ruler of the universe get lonely? Isn't that an imperfection? Isn't it an admission that there is more in the universe than what your God created, if he can miss conversation? Isn't it somewhat petty (and a lot crazy) to want to be worshipped?

You haven't really thought this through, have you?

It's very obvious that Edge doesn't want to, or is incapable of thinking through his religion. It would be sad if it's an inability; it more seems an unwillingness, which is more sad.

He may not realize it, but he likely sways those 'on the fence' about religious belief to abandon their god-belief after reading what he has to say. And he must be an embarrassment to those who do know how to intelligently defend their religious beliefs.

I always like how edge and others like him talk as if we are new to their religion and all the arguments for it which are so pathetic. I've have not heard anything new in over 50 years outside of saying the same BS with different words.

I was just thinking the same thing in another context the other day. These arguments and counter-arguments may be new for some people (everyone has to hear them for the first time once), but for those who've already heard them and already formed an opinion about them, it's not close-minded to reject the same argument from a different person for the second or fifth or tenth time.

What would be interesting are new and better arguments--from both sides.

I must admit that I don't really have any to offer, other than the same old arguments to new people, but it's what would make someone winning the Randi challenge, or someone bringing in a verified bigfoot body, or anything like that so cool: a brand new data point to deal with.

. . . . they immediately go to live and reign in the presence of Christ and praise Him for ever . . . .

Bob: Weatherman says 100% chance of reign. What you doing later today?
Fred: Praising.
Bob: How about tomorrow?
Fred: Praising.
Bob: Next week?
Fred: Praising.

Sounds like hell.

Well there can't be anything new until they prove and show a god, which they never do, they only show what they want it to be.

Also they only show how limited they want the universe to be, how it centers on them and also how evolution has them as an end product.

We are all going to hell. According to the bible you go to hell if you;

eat fruit from a tree less than five years old. [Lev. 19:23]
cross-breed animals. [Lev. 19:19]
grow two different plants in your garden. [Lev. 19:19]
wear a cotton-polyester blend T-Shirt. [Lev. 19:19]
read your horoscope. [Lev. 19:26]
consult a psychic. [Lev. 19:31]
cut your hair. [Lev. 19:27]
trim your beard. [Lev. 19:27]
are tattooed. [Lev. 19:28]
plant crops for more than seven years. [Lev. 25:4, Ex. 23:10-13]
bear a grudge. [Lev. 19:17]
collect interest on a loan. [Ex. 22:24]
insult a leader. [Ex. 22:27]
mistreat a foreigner. [Ex. 22:21, 23:9]
spread false rumors. [Ex. 23:1]

Have you done any of the above,Edge? Prepare for eternal torment.

Monsieur Edge is quite adamant that Levitical Laws do not apply to 21st century Christians: most notably because they do not represent God's Law in any way - the laws that you quoted are man-made and are not the divine revelation of God's will. [see this thread for documentation]

So the Edge is saying that the bible isn't true? An odd stance for a Christian.

I said the immoral laws...

Or what we would consider immoral.
Those are possibly some of the original laws that might have already been in place, for many reasons.

Or added to later.
This isn't enough to cancel out all of what we know that is true.

These laws are not for Christians.

Planets and stars may not talk but they do sing.
