TAM X Poker Tournament

Those were forum tournaments, not JREF tournaments. It's likely DJ didn't know anything about them.

Well, he certainly knew about the last two, because I told him about them!

Also, the Forum tournament has always paid part of the pot to JREF to support the organization. Even if the JREF is not involved, surely they noticed the money!

Jay Novella just wrote me back, so the guys over there are now aware of the existence of the Forum tournament. I also emailed DJ and suggested that they drop "first annual" from JREF's promotional materials for the new tournament.

They could probably call it the "First Official" tournament. I don't think any of the others were promoted on the main TAM events page.

Re-cast it as them finally realizing it's a good idea, and deserves more recognition!

Ouch, that is a bit outside of my normal price range. Oh well, and good luck to those who participate!
Aww. I think you can take those guys, Hok.

Team Oob, an organization of skeptically oriented poker superstars. is looking for members just like you. We have evaluated your play and would *cough* like you to join us. You will immediately benefit from the perks all members enjoy. This includes your buy-in stakes for any skeptical tournaments you participate in during the month of July, 2012. Your only oobligation is you must wear the official Team Oob t-shirt while playing.

Please join us, Hokulele, and your name will be added to the full membership list below. Because, ya know, someone has to inject a dose of oobiness into that tourney and I won't be there this year. You're just the person we're looking for.

See now, I would pay $125 for the Team Oob t-shirt.

I wonder if they will let people play in the tournament if they aren't registered for TAM? I am considering just going to be social, and help Mom play penny slots. The speaker line up just isn't calling to me, and the money I save by not going to the, well, TAM part of TAM can be spent on feeding Mom sushi. I guarantee that she can easily eat $500 worth of sushi in 4 days.

She mentioned something about the white snot and the brown snot... Not sushi per se, but I'm sure that fermented stuff always costs more...

:p

Are there any details of how it will be run? # of tables and persons/table, rules, etc..... Are there prizes being offered? Wish I drank to make use of the open bar! How long a night/morning is it expected to be?

All the details I know of are here on the page for the Poker Tournament at Lanyrd.

I believe it will be Texas Hold 'Em as is common these days. I assume the number of tables will depend on how many folks sign up. Buy-in is $125 and part of the proceeds will benefit JREF and SGU. I assume part of the pot will go to the winner at poker, that's pretty standard.

You can email skepticspoker@gmail.com for more details.

People per table is usually 10. Thus number of tables will depend on number of entrants.

How long it lasts also depends on the numbers. Our previous tournaments were usually 2 tables, and the last two years, the final 5 or 6 players decided to split the pot after about 3 hours. Since this new tournament doesn't even start until 11pm, don't plan on going to bed early that night!

As Krelnik said, the main prize is a slice of the pot, but their announcement did mention the possibility of bounties - knock a person out, get their bounty, which could be anything.

I'm contemplating still offering the Beer Bounty on Hokulele, BTW. I have friends from work who will be attending, and could possibly deliver beer.....

OK, so if one makes it through the first table, one shouldn't expect much sleep then that night. That will make for a rough Sunday at the meeting.

All I can tell you as one of the participants is that it did start about 11PM, there were over 60 players, and I wasn't the first out (I was the fourth out). I was busted at 11:45PM, so with 50+ people left, I have no idea when the tournament finished.

I know Matthew (Mattus Maximus) was still in when I left, have no idea how he finished.

60 players sounds like a great success to me! Tell us more about where it was held, how it ran, all that!
