TAM X Poker Tournament

Also I spent 600 for TAM registration, a couple hundred to fly there, a couple hundred more for the hotel. Sorry but I feel like I was ripped off, and that makes me sad. This door seems to be hitting me on the ass on the way out, too.

Zuma, please don't opt out of the skeptic community based on this experience. Please remember that the folks you are talking to on this forum are mostly just folks like you - they do not speak for the JREF or SGU.

In years past some volunteers from the forum ran a poker tourney but to my knowledge none of those same folks were involved this year. Based on the email you quote above this was probably a learning experience for the organizers. Coordinating these things is harder than it looks!

With that said - if I were you I would contact the JREF and/or SGU directly (again) to ask for their assistance in getting your prize. If halohms already got his cards then yours should be available too.

Also I am not rich so had I been given the choice to donate to one of the many wonderful non-profit organizations I could have at least done that. Instead I was hijacked by TAM/SGU for 125. That was my own dumb fault, I admit.

No one forced you to play. I was honoured to be able to play since there were many that had to have their money returned that really wanted to play. I got my deck of cards the next day at the SGU table. One of the SGU women had to get the decks from their room and both decks were there. Not all the speakers signed the cards. In total, 20 cards were signed. Not a big deal since it is a difficult task and really needs to be planned to do it completely.

I was glad to make it to the final table. I played it safe to get there as the goal and probably would have got higher if I didn't play a few hands safe. In the end, it was just some bad cards for me.

If there were money prizes, I would have just given it back anyways. It was all about the fun and I had a great time although I could have slept longer. It was really tough getting up with 3 hours sleep and then it wasn't that good of a sleep with all the caffeine consumed in the diet cokes!

This was my first TAM and if finances are good, I will be back for TAM 11.

Thanks SGU and JREF

Yes, you are right, nobody forced me to play. I am glad you got your prize. I apologize for not realizing that I should have just been happy for the opportunity. I am glad you enjoyed TAM and congratulations on your win. I apologize for being a dick about the poker tournament and I will view the $125 I spent as a lesson learned. I hope you have fun next year, I'm going to Oregon Country Fair instead. But I'm done, I followed the rules, and got nothing.

Again, it means just that I don't fit in which is fine. I still support their causes.

I never claimed to be the sharpest knife in the drawer anyway. I was probably obviously out of my depth at TAM

Give Jay Novella an email and ask them to send you your prize, deck of cards.

Thank you for your advice. I already tried contacting skepticspoker@gmail.com weeks ago, but received no reply. I'll try the other one you suggested and let you know how it turns out. I'm trying not to be bitter about this, but if they try to hold this tournament next year, at least be very careful about registration and collection of supposed prizes. Anyway, I'll update if (or if not) I hear back. Thanks everyone.

I shouldn't have to be so defensive about bitching about not being given what I was promised by TAM/SGU.

Are you saying you skeptically evaluated your original defensive position, found it to be shaky in the face of opposing evidence, and shifted your perception to reflect your new worldview?

You'll fit in here just fine. :)

Zuma, which one of you is talking now? It is almost like you have two personalities.....

Here's an update. I heard back from Jay after emailing him from the SGU site. He's going to send me the deck of cards, and is throwing in a SGU t-shirt too. Sorry if I got a little bitchy, but I was just a little frustrated. Everything seems to have been worked out now.

Also, he mentioned that next year the poker tournament registration will be integrated with TAM registration, which will undoubtedly make things easier for both the organizers and registrants.

Thanks Jay and everyone here who offered constructive advice.

Hey, where's my T-shirt? XL please..... Oh, It was a fundraiser tournament so I will buy the T-shirt instead. Probably do that at CFICON in Nashville at the end of October!
