TAM London Roll Call

Hi all,

I guess I can add myself to this thread, seeing as I managed to get one of the last batch of tickets. I think to say I'm looking forward to it would be something of an understatement.

Oh, and a pub session on Friday sounds like a fantastic idea :-).

Mike

Hi, and I'd really like to join in for a pub evening on the Friday too, sooooooooooooo excited about Tam. (Apart from badge not arriving yet, but I'm living in hope.)

I’m normally lurk here (haven’t quite got around to posting yet) but as I’ve just got myself a ticket to TAM I thought it was about time I made a post. I’m very much looking forward to meeting some fellow skeptics! :D

I’m curious to see if anyone that has got a ticket from the most recent allocation has any info on whether the tickets will be posted or made available at the event due to the short time scale/postage strike?

Alisha,

See a few comments up from yours, by zooterkin, which says "email info@tamlondon.org with the subject "BADGE NOT RECEIVED" and we will have a duplicate waiting for you at the venue when you arrive."

I've done that, since mine hasn't arrived.

[Edit: I now see that's not the question you were asking Alisha......]

So, with one day left do we have a decision? Founders Arms, Friday evening? Be there or be a rectangular thing.

Also, how are we going to recognise each other? I don't have any TAM related stuff or a badge, so my main method of being recognised is going to be wandering around looking confused.

I'm unlikely to be there until 9pm or so at the earliest, depending on how lost I get. My number is o784o236612 in case any spammers want to give me a call. Replace the first "0" with +44 if you're foreign. Just remember that I'm more likely to need directions than to be able to give them.

My delegate badge just arrived, five minutes ago. :)

I'm planning to go up to London tomorrow, and visit the Natural History Museum, as it's much too long since I last went there. Is anyone else likely to be in the area? I probably won't be there until mid-morning. Not sure yet which pub to head for in the evening.

There's now also another option which "Jack of Kent" has offered on another thread, which is to meet at the usual "Skeptics in the Pub" location... That's the cellar bar of the "penderel's oak" in Holborn. 8pm.

See this thread for details:

Yeah, the trouble with that is it's a lot further from the venue, so it will be harder to stagger back drunkenly to the hotel from it.

Don't know if the email got out to everyone, but can pick up badges from the Crowne Plaza hotel reception/lounge near the venue from 2-7pm. I'm thinking of swinging by after work to pick up ours, so Founders Arms or something would be easy to drop into after that for a bit if people are gonna be around.

I'll drop into the Founders Arms, I'll be the one with no TAM badge, but I do have a JREF bag, which has a (tiny) picture of Randi on the front, and I'll be looking like I really hope someone will talk to me, as going into pubs alone is scary...

I'll be going to the George Hrab thingo, and try to get the pulse of where everyone is going after that. I'll twitter it with the tag #tamlondon for those who have twitter...

Well, I set off tomorrow morning and, wouldn't you just know it, I've got a hacking cough and a temperature all of a sudden. I'll go down to London in the morning whatever (well, unless I get much worse) since I've already paid for my hotel, and I'll see how I feel when I get there.

Hey Rat, I'm in the same boat. I might wear a mask and gloves, but I'm not missing TAM because of a little virus...

There's definitely good ol' swine flu around in London, but there (also?) appears to be an unpleasant but mild respiratory virus which is characterised by a vicious sore throat for a couple of days followed by a few more days of aches, pains and general fatigue, but it's generally considered not to be the Real Thing. Since doctors aren't actually testing for swine flu in most cases and relying on symptom-matching, with emphasis on fever to indicate swine flu, (and this virus, which I've had, doesn't seem to induce a high fever) it's anyone's guess as to what's really being passed around.

Anyway don't let that worry you. Enjoy London! Enjoy TAM! Don't die! I'll see you all there from Saturday because my pesky social life is keeping me busy before that...

It's probably that actually; I'd expect it to be worse by now if it were flu. To be honest, it's quite probably just my agoraphobia finding a way to get out of sitting in a room with hundreds of people for hours, so I'll try to ignore it.

Can't make it to Geo's gig tonight but would love to meet in a pub aferwards. Now have to board plane

Off now to do the science and natural history museums, will get my badge on the way back to the Wellcome-collection event, which is at 6.30pm?

OK, my plan for Friday has changed, will be in camden, then may wander back past Holborn, and then perhaps back to the founders arms later on.

If you find yourself alone and unable to find other TAM attendee, then follow me via google latittude on ohp.tamlondon@googlemail.com

There we go, in London and checked in to Club Quarters, St Paul :)
Now I only need a adapter for my strange power supply so the laptop don't run out...
