TAM 9 Wishlist

I like the skeptical humor angle. Lots of possibilities, some of whom have appeared at past TAMs:

Tim Minchin
George Hrab
Jonathan Coulton
Roy Zimmerman (I had to miss his show to be at the SGU dinner)
Julia Sweeney
Jill Sobule
Stephen Fry
Hugh Laurie
Mitchell and Webb
Dara O'Briain
Cast of Mr. Deity
Scott Dikkers or others from The Onion
Randall Munroe
Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, or people from their shows
Peter Sagal from Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me

Any other suggestions along these lines?

ETA: I've just remembered that, walking around the Strip on Monday, a number of the casinos and hotels there did have free, open, wifi. I guess they make their money in other ways, maybe higher room prices, but it's not a given the wifi will be charged for.

Cost me $10 per day at the MGM Grand. No restriction on multiple devices (as far as I could tell), and it worked a little bit away from my room. Next year, I'm hoping to go down the iPad route and get one of my new US buddies to grab a data card for me prior to TAM.

I'd like a venue with more comfy seats for the main presentation hall. Sitting on banquet chairs for 2 hours is very uncomfy.

A change in hotel for variety sake might be cool.

WOW that was a good time. I should have said this to DJ Grothe when I was behind him in line at the Skepchick party beer line, but I have some requests that may or may not be feasible.

Mary Roach

Gary Numan

Anyone else?

Do they hear requests? And how far in advance do they plan the roster?

Free WiFi in the meeting area and several PCs or laptops for checking e-mails. 10 minutes limit for each person.

I'd like to hear the date announced as soon as possible. From what I heard, I very much doubt we will be at South Point next year. I know there is a lot of organising/research for the JREF to do, but for the international contingent, there is a greater need for these kind of trips need to be budgeted/planned well in advance (for me, starting in about 2-3 months). Having a TAM in Australia won't stop me from attending TAM Vegas, but to do so I want to be ready to jump on the earlybird flight sales ASAP. It cost me a lot more than it should have this year, due to buying my flight at the wrong time of year. If I can't get the cheap flights, I won't be able to go. :(

My flawless psychic powers tell me TAM 9 will be July 7-10, 2011.

Whether or not you choose to believe my flawless psychic powers is your problem.

Sounds about right, but (with no disrespect intended) not official, however.

I hope you're wrong. If it is that weekend, I will have a conflict. TAM will win, but I'd rather not face it.

I'd add in funny podcasters like Brian Thompson (amateur scientist podcast) and Monster Talk's Blake Smith (who gets to be funny when he does stuff with Brian).

But yeah I'd like to see a theme or sub theme or panel on humor and skepticism.

Be careful what you wish for. At least we didn't have to do the 1000 meter, 3 flights of stairs dash for meals like at the last hotel.

I'd like to second Eugenie Scott and add Dr. Nancy Snyderman.

I like the TAM 9 from outer space suggestion, but the t-shirts could also play off the superstition of a cat's nine lives.

Mark Mothersbaugh

Lawrence Krause

WiFi in the lobby area

I've also done mock debates in classes where I take the role of creationist in order to show people how to discuss (ugh, debate) the topic in a public forum. Something like this would be fun too.

"TAM9 From Outer Space" is great!

Banachek
Steve Cuno
Richard Dawkins
Ann Druyan
Brian Dunning
Sam Harris
Christopher Hitchens
George Hrab (live Geologic podcast Sunday morning?)
John James III (judge from the 2005 Dover, PA Evolution vs ID case)
Lawrence Krauss
Ken Miller (saw a lecture on Ev/ID he gave in OH in 06 & it was great)
Joe Nickell
Penn & Teller
Phil Plait
Paul Provenza
Mary Roach
Ian Rowland
Eugenie Scott
Michael Shermer
Carol Tavris
Neil deGrasse Tyson
Richard Wiseman

(I mean all as lectures not "workshops/panels/Q&A" only)

I'd like to share an example with you of why I think Dr. Nancy Snyderman would be such a great speaker for TAM. She doesn't pull her punches when she speaks and is very passionate. www . today.msnbc.msn.com/id/26184891/vp/38444985#38444985
