Syria and UN Security Council Decision

Seymour Hersh has no credibility since he he embraced 9/11 twoof and claimed the Bin Laden raid never happened.

The gullible idiot will believe anything his crook friends tell him.

The Hersh piece is making the rounds, slower than it would have done were it printed in the Washington Post, but surely given its importance. A good reflection by Jonathan Cook:

Jonathan Cook said:
[...] While reading this piece, I kept thinking one thing: If Barack Obama had not been forced to scrap his plan to bomb Syria at the last minute, we would now be reading about these deceptions after thousands, or more likely tens of thousands, of Syrian civilians had been killed in allied bombing runs.

We might also be reading Hersh (or more likely not reading him, given the likely war hysteria) after US forces had got sucked into a ground invasion as the Assad regime collapsed. Hersh’s piece suggests that the US military had a plan to invade if there was any danger that Assad’s chemical weapons stockpile was in danger of being taken over by the rebels, as would have been inevitable had the regime fallen. [...]

Two conclusions he sees to be drawn here. As obvious, yours truly doesn't have to, but I can think of a whole bunch of "otherwise clever people" who better finally catch up for good... ;)

Jonathan Cook said:
[...] The other is that we as citizens (ruled over by our governments) and as readers (of their media) have to start waking up to these serial deceptions. Too many otherwise clever people fall time and again for the false narratives we are spun. There is a simple lesson: stop swallowing the so-called intelligence you are being told to justify aggression, most especially when it clashes with the precepts of common sense. This should be our position on Iran too.

Similarly, not only must we become less gullible but we must inoculate ourselves against those who are more susceptible to the virus. Those of us who tried to warn that we must be wary of official efforts to manipulate the intelligence and our understanding of events were denounced, as always happens in these circumstances, as Assad apologists. [...]

In other news, the SAA offensive in the Qalamoon mountains progresses slowly but steadily. Today it was announced that Nabuk was liberated, which makes it possible to declare the highway Damascus-Homs completely safe again. Unfortunately, those progresses come at high costs as the hordes manage to break the siege for counter attacks and spread mayhem in the mostly ancient Christian towns in the lower regions of the mountains.

So they did in Deir Attiya two weeks ago where they withdrew after a couple of days leaving the local hospital slaughtered to the last being, and a week ago they managed to return to Maaloula where they kidnapped a dozen of nuns who stayed in their ancient monastery while most of the Aramaic speaking residents had not returned from the first assault on the town in September. Today even Yankee Moon joined a call to release them, but they are apparently in hands of the hardcore fraction, not some local "rebel" folks one could negotiate with. For our short article/source collection I embedded two videos yesterday that illustrate the tragedy quite well. The first is from December 2008 and a short tourist report about Maaloula, the second is from five years later, filmed at the same place by "rebels" end of last week. :(

I knew about his pathetic Bin Laden gibberish, but I wasn't aware he'd gone twoofer. Link?

I don't think many intelligent people take him and his rumored "sources" seriously anymore. How the mighty have fallen.

I don't know if Hersch has gone Twoof.

But he did come out with several "revelations" over the years that proved to be Debka-style sensationalism.
Reports of US special forces already active in Iran to prepare for a full-scale ground invasion, if I recall.

I stopped paying attention to him some time ago.

Fisk is another former great who has become a has-been.
He writes clearly when his message is anti-american, but goes into a weird rambling style, masquerading as analysis when the story is anything else.
I can't help reading his articles in a slurred, drunken voice. Maybe that's the state he writes in. I don't know.

What a load of indifferent babble.

I'm sorry

I hope I've not robbed you of the joy of believing everything Hersh writes, to be proven wrong some months later. (He may be right in this case, but I prefer a different source. Hersh has a terrible track record).

Don't worry, I couldn't care less, just stating a fact. Seems like most observers disagree with your perception of Hersh's track record, though. And in this special case, I'm vindicated more than enough already, given how that "assessment" was frantically rubbed under the noses of us heretics with the notion how mad it would be to doubt that Assad did it - equally mad as doubting that it happened at all. And we said "that's not an intelligence assessment". Which turned out to be the case, with additional devastating debunks from several sides, long before Hersh wrote his piece. As I'm sure you've read as eager follower of this thread.

Hersch guaranteeing a US invasion of Iran every year for about a decade pretty much buried the last fragments of whatever credibility he had left. Fisk has been a fumbling, stumbling old fool for a very long time.

Sorry I can't find one. I could be wrong.

I'm too acclimated to CE posting paranoid gibberish written by twooftards.

Top Western-backed rebel commander run out of Syria by Islamists

RT said:
The top Western-backed commander of the opposition forces in Syria has been run out of the country by Islamist militants, US officials said Wednesday.

According to US officials cited by the Wall Street Journal, Free Syrian Army General Salim Idris was forced to take flight.

This comes after the US and Britain announced Wednesday that they was freezing non-lethal aid to the opposition after radical militants from the Islamic Front took control of the Free Syrian Army’s bases in northern Syria.

Gen. Idris fled to Doha, Qatar on Sunday after leaving Syria for Turkey, US officials said Wednesday. [...]

"I wouldn't say this is the end of the SMC and the end of Gen. Idris," a senior US official told WSJ. [...]

;) at last sentence. What doesn't really comes through in this article (and likely even less in Western rags) is that the "Islamic Front" didn't really take over. They just followed through on an existing development. Those are not the Al-Qaeda affiliated super wackos but the "moderates" that so far were counted as part of the "FSA", more or less all the major fighting groups except ISIS and Al-Nusra. They had rejected Idris' "SMC" for quite some time while appreciating the aid he got. In the last three months they formed their own, real command structure and the result is the "Islamic Front" which was proclaimed end of November. So they practically were "the FSA" and now just told Idris to get lost for good, without need to take anything over. That the aid was suspended is a good sign, because there was an intense lobbying campaign by the Sauds et al to get Washington to accept the new structure as cuddly "moderates" and still the right gang to support, which apparently failed.

RT is a highly partisan site, but I assume that many things like this happen now as the radical rebels take over. Just like the Stalin-backed brigades took over during the Spanish civil war.

I envision decades of drone practice ahead if those guys win.

Yes, Eddie, we all know that RT is evil. That's why I quoted them, to give you an opportunity to find how they misrepresented (or made up?) what the Wall Street Journal wrote about those US officials' statements. So?

"Western" news organizations sent a letter to "rebels" (paraphr.): "Dear rebels, would you pwetty please stop kidnapping our journalists? We really can't fulfill our task to make you look like the good guys if you continue like that. Meanies."

Any of you want to go back to Talking about UN security council decisions on Syria?

Just asking. It's the thread topic, or once was.

Somehow this has become the genral Syrian civil war thread.

Is somebody feels the call, they can start a new thread.

I'm not convinced that the participants here will migrate.
