Once you are past the wedge issues, Republicans are as pragmatic as normal* people - and Perry made it rain. Surely you'll agree that that alone gives him an edge with the Republican base?

Yes, and on the gay thing, Perry has hit the Federalist Hypocrisy note too. He had previously said that gay marriage is an issue for the states to deal with, but then he supports a constitutional amendment to define marriage.

Don’t forget that he's also going after the Ron Paul voters by accusing the Fed of treason. He's going to ge the nomnation for sure

In fairness a substantial number of scientists have manipulated data to keep the money rolling in. However the climate researchers are one of the less likely groups to do this. Far more likely to find scientists in the private sector doing this kind of thing. If the law allows more than one way to report the data you report in the way that is best for the company you work for. Or the money will stop rolling in.

I've only seen one poll (not polls) that puts Perry in the lead, and it's still less than 1/3 of those polled. Even if that poll isn't an aberration (which I think it is), that still isn't a strong enough showing to consider him a front runner.

ETA: And it's an exceptionally weak field at that!...pretty much the only reason such a bad candidate could fare even this well.

The other polls were before Perry announced his candidacy though.
He's also the frontrunner in betting last time I checked.

(It may just be the new kid on the block effect. We'll see.)

ETA: I was right to add the caveat "last time I checked" to the above. It seems that Perry has fallen about six percent since yesterday and now they're tied. Might have something to do with statement like the One in the OP.

The real question is: Is global warming occurring to an extent that it threatens the well-being of species (including us) on this planet?

It really doesn't matter whether human overpopulation and behavior has had a detrimental affect on our climate (though I think it is insane to suggest otherwise).

Would it be to our advantage to attempt to cool off the planet a bit or at least keep it from getting warmer? If so, we should attempt to take action.

Perry is a tool who is kissing up to ignorant twerps.
