"Substantial number of scientists has manipulated data to keep the money rolling in"

Bush without the brain.

All in the same week he called the Fed chief a traitor if he tries to boost the economy between now and 2012, and blasted a federal regulation about farm equipment that doesn't actually exist.

All he needs is some birfer talk and he'll waltz to the GOP convention.

At some point people should begin to realize such beliefs are more mainstream Republican then extreme.

Some posters here still think that's not true. Didn't we have long thread about Palin being a climate denier? And she played coy enough with it to sound like she could be a denier, but maybe not? This is just full whacktard, no code.

And this is the guy who thinks climate change is a hoax, but the solution to his state's record drought is to pray for rain.

And he's LEADING THE POLLS for the GOP nod this week.

So have the accusations that 'the Left' is only attacking Perry because their 'scared' of him (as opposed to having many undesirable qualities) started yet?

No, we´re still at the "The Left only attacks Perry because they´re evil biased partisan scum and hate America" stage.

I've only seen one poll (not polls) that puts Perry in the lead, and it's still less than 1/3 of those polled. Even if that poll isn't an aberration (which I think it is), that still isn't a strong enough showing to consider him a front runner.

ETA: And it's an exceptionally weak field at that!...pretty much the only reason such a bad candidate could fare even this well.

You think he's not the new frontrunner? I disagree. I think it's now a two person race between Perry and Mitt. And it'll come down to the Tea Party faithful and how strong their caucus actually is.

You *may* be right, but I think it's way too early to say that with any confidence. When someone starts consistently polling with over 30% at least, I'll consider there to be a front runner.

That Rasmussen poll showed an incredible 11% jump in Perry's number. I think it may have been an irreproducible result. At least, I don't buy it unless or until it is reproduced.

At any rate, "a two person race between Perry and Mitt" is not the same thing as considering Perry to be the front runner.

Mitt's problem is that his support is an inch deep. No one really LIKES Mitt Romney, they just think he's the most electable. Still, a sizable number or Republicans want someone who represents the hard right and doesn't come with RomneyCare as baggage. They want to repeal the Death Panels and stop scientists from stealing money from the Producers. They also don't want a Mormon, except maybe to keep that Muslim out of the White House. I think they just want someone credible so they can dump Mitt. And Perry is credible (not for you and me, but in their eyes).

I say if he can stop making stupid gaffes like this and pretend to be sane, he gets the nod.

It's more or less an involuntary reflex with me. Sorry.

Just don't tell the English department of the State University of New York at Fredonia though. They were kind enough to give me my degree and I'm afraid they'll take it back. :boxedin:

I don't see support for Perry as any more solid though. [ETA: At least not yet.] I think if Palin throws her hat into the ring, she would immediately be a serious contender. Yes, the field is that weak!

I also think the longer no clear front runner emerges, the more likely a late entry will come swooping in.
