StopSylvia: Finally!

It is odd that her supporters do not worry about the lack of evidence of her abilities, when you would expect their to be plenty of evidence for her abilities. In her forums none were ever posted. I have looked.

You could have done more than just "defend and repeat what she so often proclaims" you just chose not to.
You liked what she was selling and bought as much of her as you could.

The problem was never that SB sucked you into her web of lies and crime.
The problem has always been you walked into it with a smile on your face and thanking her for it.

The sooner you figure out why you did that the better your life will become and also the sooner you can put all this SB crap to rest and move on.

Brattus, I really don't understand what you hope to gain by being hostile towards former fans of Browne. Bullying them into admitting that they were willing participants in their relationship with Browne can change their minds about what side of the fence they are on, and, probably worse, it might convince lurkers to stay on the other side of the fence. I'm not saying that you should coddle them, but there is a wide spectrum between coddling and bullying. You did this with ExMinister, who is a wonderful lady. I don't have much of a feel for what kind of a person this Francine is, but she seems to have turned away from Browne, and I see no reason to badger her for not seeing her former relationship with Browne exactly the way you wish she did.

By the way, your Home Page seems to not work.

Way to take my quote out of context, Brattus. You took one sentence out of a paragraph that I wrote and decided to inject more of your indignant, self righteousness. I find it hilarious, however, that the very next sentence after the one you quoted proves your point exactly. "I was taking her word for it and believing it myself."

I've never claimed that she had any power over me. I wanted to believe her and I did believe her. You don't know her in person, I do. You can't say with certainty how you would react to her if you had more of a believer mindset rather than a skeptical one. She can be very charming and believable at times.

Bottom line is- it was my own fault. I don't think I've ever stated otherwise but if I have, feel free to point that quote out to the forum.

Congratulations for stating the obvious, Brattus. I don't know why you have felt so much hostility toward me from the very beginning, but if you don't like what I have to say, feel free to ignore the Sylvia Browne threads.

Speaking as a former fan of Sylvia, I would like to add that Brattus's behavior is the reason why the term "skeptic" has a negative connotation to many people. I have come to realize that to be skeptical in the true sense of the word is a great thing. So thank you, Brattus, for assuming the antagonist role. Without you, I may not have fully appreciated or recognized more rational, intelligent skeptics.

Well said, but I don't think of Brattus as irrational nor unintelligent. I just think he sometimes picks his battles in a way which I feel is counterproductive to furthering skepticism.

When I first came to this forum, I posted frequently about my personal experiences with Sylvia Browne and her organization. As the minister of her church in Delaware, I spent many years believing in her, just as Ex-Minister and Francine did. I still come here frequently and read, but gave up posting because of Brattus' arrogant attitude towards anyone who had personal experiences with Sylvia Browne. I see his attitude towards us has not changed.

But Robert, (and I can only speak for myself) changing my mind about what side of the fence I'm on will not happen. Once I started gathering evidence of how corrupt her organization is and through my personal dealings with Sylvia, what a completely UNspiritual person she really is, I knew that I'd made a big mistake....I admitted it publicly and moved on with my life. I refrained from reading anything you Brattus posted on the subject of Sylvia Browne and her "followers" because your posts irritated the hell out of me...and I find they still do.

Glad to hear that your feet are firmly planted over here, Seeking Truth. But I think there are others, still on the fence, for whom this sort of treatment may tip them the other way.

Thanks very much! I am not the type of skeptic who dislikes it when someone prays for me. I take it in the spirit in which I think it is meant. you are in my thoughts as well. I was thinking of you just the other day and wondering how you were doing. I hope all is well with you.

Funny. True, too.

But I think, from past experience, that her supporters over there find plenty of what they would define as evidence, some having seen her apparent hits on Montel, or believing her to be sincere and therefore trusting the claims she makes in her books, sharing success stories with each other, even if the stories are mostly about how much the philosophy has helped them.

If you don't have a background in scientific or critical thinking, this can pass for evidence.

Well I agree with you that ExMinister is a wonderful lady.
I disagree however that I bullied her in anyway.
I hope she does not think this! I have a lot respect for Ex as I do for you!

My post in this thread was not meant to bully anyone.
But rather to help that poster see that Sylvia Browne held no power over them or controlled their actions in any way.

By doing this they can get out of the victim mindset and move on with their lives.
Hopefully with a new world view that is very hard to come by.
Ex is living proof of this.

Lurkers will do what ever they will do I hold no responsibility for their actions.
People on the fence are there for a reason.
That reason has nothing to do with me. You give me far to much credit.

Well that is great! I'm glad you see that you caused the Sylvia Browne problem in your life and not Sylvia Browne.

I have the up most respect for Mr. Lancaster IMO he is the best internet writer I have ever read.
That being said when it comes to Sylvia Browne and her like Mr. Lancaster's view is not the only one out there.
The SB threads on this forum are not extensions of his website.

I have my own view on it and have every much the right to raise my voice and speak them on this forum as Mr. Lancaster does.
If other posters don't like my view well to bad for them.

There are many points of view discussed on this forum that I don't agree with but I would never tell any poster not to post their opinion on that point of view.

One of the more frustrating things for me in posting on believer forums is their insistence that their unverified stories of personal experiences are compelling evidence. "A psychic once knew my dead mother's name - that PROVES there are psychic powers, doesn't it?!

And, of course, one of the most frustrating things for many of them while I'm around is my inability to recognize their unverified stories of personal experiences as the compelling evidence they really ARE!
