"Islamist" doesn't mean Muslim. It has a more specific meaning you should look up.

That is what came to my mind. Not as the truth but as the post hoc excuse. "Ah, al-Assiri, unfortunate you mis-understood me and took my casual utterance so literally... Now you must take the fall for it. But, in a whisper, just between you and me, thanks.

I also was thinking how amazing that the best excuse the Saudi's have come up with so far is that they only wished to kidnap him and secretly smuggle him to Saudi Arabia - so they could imprison and likely torture him at their leisure. Heaven forbid that they might have intended to kill him, or even hurt him during the process! It was his fault he died because he resisted. And that he had one of those funny necks that kills people in a chock hold. Which are diagnosed by the simple test of placing them in a chock hold and seeing if they die. Presumably the bone saw was to prepare the rack of lamb for the banquet they intended to throw for Koshoggi if he had not resisted.

But I bet it is enough cover for Trump to publicly fully buy into it. Disgusting. And I am not suggesting that the USA, or other countries, need to completely reject Saudi Arabia. The Saudis clearly occupy a strategic position in the Mideast and represent a huge economic influence. We have a long history of looking the other way,or mildly tut-tutting their many evil sins to maintain thesse practical alliances. The USA could once again summon up carefully titrated criticism while maintaining these relationships. But instead Trump has to contribute to this by being such an embarrassing butt-licker!

It's curious to me that they specifically brought a guy with them to the consulate for this exact purpose. Kashoggi was never going to leave the building of his own volition.
 
I wonder exactly how harsh that tell-all will be. I've read that Erdogan is using this whole mess as leverage to squeeze cash out of Saudi.

We'll find out in about an hour and a half.

The Saudi's were really spooked by the Islamic revolution in Iran in 1979, then they had their own uprising by devout Islamists who occupied the Kabaa.

After that scare, they have been paying money and lip service to radicals, with the big idea being that both the Jihad-money and the fighters operate outside SA, externalising the problem.

That's probably also how Saudi money ended up financing 9/11.

The house of Saud's actual ideology is having cocktail on their yacht.

Not really. Egypt is run by the military who use Islamists to motivate their people and get support from the west.
 
I read this on my phone, can't find the article now.

The Wallstreet Journal talked to a Turkish diplomat who said that the Turks only gradually published information (drip-drip), thus totally borking SA's well-funded PR-effort.
As the revelations were spread out over weeks, the Saudis had to give multiple statements, and revise those statements, and then re-revise them. All leading to a massive PR disaster, a failed economics summit and a damaged relationship with the US.
 
Some interesting new info will be coming out soon, curious to see how all of this will conclude. Or maybe it wint, like MH-17

This may be because most of their military personnel aren't actually Saudi. All the officers are, but 85% of both the army and the navy, i.e the lower ranks, are Pakistani.
 
This does sound incredibly unprofessional. Now I don't know how skilled Saudi Arabia's henchmen are, but I'm starting to see how this might indeed might have been a botched intimidation instead of planned assassination.

Apparently, the bone saw was scanned at the airport. Just sayin'.

Also, this seems unprofessional only compared to TV movies and film. Istanbul doesn't have alligators, crocodiles or pigs(not sure about this one) to feed the body parts to.
