So still the same situation. There's also somebody "leaking" extremely gruesome pictures to gullible bloggers, allegedly showing remains of Khashoggi including his mutilated head and private parts. The blogger thought it looked like him. I spared myself clicking on the link as I've watched enough Troma movies to know that you don't need much sophistication to make some "plausible" gore.

I don't know, actually. I'm just pointing out that the two claims are very different. Which one is CNN addressing? Seems to me like they're addressing the latter, but you included the much broader one along with it.

Attempts to listen to the goings on in foreign embassies and consulates are mundane. At the same time it would have the added complexity of the Turks not wishing to reveal widely exactly how the recordings were obtained. As for the chopping up, he appears to have gone inside but not come out and one of the Saudi visitors was an expert at autopsy.

I disagree. A lot of countries have huge interests in SA. The US mostly so because of the Petro-Dollar, weapons deals and god only knows how much more. SA is also the most active foreign lobbyist in the US, and not Israel as right-wing conspiritards like to believe.

The difference is that Trump is too dumb or unsophisticated to play the required political theatre around the issue. He should show a bit of fake outrage, expel some diplomats, huff and puff a bit and all the while let the strategic and economic partnership go on as usual.

Just to clarify: I think we largely agree on all these points. Sorry if my post did not make that as clear as I intended!

Worth reading (it's about the Apple Watch and from CNBC, not CNN). Also worth mentioning that the claims debunked there are originating with Daily Sabah, one of Erdogan's most devote mouth-pieces, which is also the source for the identity of the 15 people as outlined in the Independent article Sideroxylon linked.

It's also interesting that the two planes the Turks pointed to as carrying the 15 killers left Istanbul one for Cairo, to return to Riyadh only a day later, and the other to a quick stop in another Turkish airport, then to Dubai, and only the next morning back to Riyadh. As reported in the Washington Pest from open source flight tracker data. I joked elsewhere that we should look for some parts of Khashoggi deep in the great pyramid, and for others on top of the Burj Khalifa.

That the Turks may have tried to ascribe a source for the audio other than their own electronic surveillance or the actions of someone inside the consulate should not be a surprise.

More from Daily Sabah: Its Washington correspondent has clarified yesterday that they have no audio tape. So they parrot "officials". From his tweets today's it seems Yeni Safak, also an Erdogan mouthpiece but more of an "edgy" newcomer, claims they have the audio, even "several", which we are advised to be "cautious" about.

You're contradicting yourself. If consumers actually demand efficiency, then that's a very strong incentive for producers to provide it. Government cannot roll back consumer demand.
