Sarah Palin considering 2012 Presidential run!!!

He was the President, and it was 9-11.

A turnip would have gotten 70%.
I wonder what his approval rating would have been if the "Bin Laden determined to strike in the US" memo was released the same day, instead of in 2004.

George WIll in an article in Yesterday's Washington post said it best: The GOP should run Palin only if they want to lose 44 states in 2012. However much she fires up the base she is poison to moderate voters.

I wonder what his approval rating would have been if the "Bin Laden determined to strike" memo had any actionable information in it?

Why is news that Palin could be running in 2012 surprising to anyone?

ETA: The "quitter" meme is going to kill her, btw.

This cannot be overstated.

Unlike almost everyone else here, I like Palin... but the quitting thing does not sit well with me.

If we received a memo warning of potential hijackings today, what should the government do in response? Something or nothing?

Will... when is there ever not a "potential hijacking" being planned by terrorists?

"BinLaden plotting hijackings, water wet, sun to rise and/or set within 12 hours..." the August 6th PDB just didn't have any useful information in it.

Vague, generalized and redundant statements are often worse than useless. They contribute to states of panic without telling us anyuthing we can use.

I'll agree that the information was vague and probably not actionable.

I just find it interesting to pose the question of what the Bush administration did in regards to terrorism before 9/11. It didn't appear to be much of a priority to them. Yet they get so much credit for being tough on terrorism and keeping us safe since 9/11.

This, more than anything, is going to be her biggest liability if she ever does decide to run for President. I really don't see what kind of positive spin they could stick on that.

The most likely explanation is that she wanted to be free to start earning the big bucks -- strike while the iron's hot, not wait until Jan, 2011, when her term would have expired. The only real questions are whether or not she thought that quitting would do irreparable damage to her presidential ambitions, and whether she actually has those ambitions anyway.

It's best for all involved if she doesn't end up running. For herself and especially her family in that her personal drama does not become even more intense national gossip fodder. And for the rest of us for the obvious reason.

You mean like warning of potential hijackings?

You mean like this:

We have not been able to corroborate some of the more sensational threat reporting, such as that from a ---- service in 1998 saying that Bin Laden wanted to hijack a U.S. aircraft to gain the release of "Blind Sheikh" Omar Abdel Rahman and other U.S.-held extremists.

Which of course has nothing to do with 9-11. And I would point out that terrorists hijacking planes to gain the release of their fellow terrorists was not exactly some novel idea; hijacking planes to fly them into buildings, however, was.

Using planes as missiles had been thought of before, but was never in a PDB.

Still, "patterns of suspicious activity in this country consistent with preparations for hijackings." Are hijackings acceptable?

I just find the sentiment that Bush was tough on terrorism strange when it was less of a priority than under Clinton until 9/11. It just wasn't on his radar in the same way.
