Rush Limbaugh says we need to return to ‘segregated buses'

So, why is Limbaugh, Beck and even O’Riely are gaining in popularity and few liberal pundits (like Larry King) can make it in the free market of communications?

DDWW

All the right-wing radio guys agree on one concept:

* The "mainstream" media is a giant liberal monopoly.
* They, the right-wing talkers, are obviously not liberal, and ostensibly therefore not "mainstream"; especially now that the word "mainstream" has become a vile perjorative in the right-wing echo chamber.
* Liberals can't succeed in the free market of communications.
* That's why there are no liberals in the media.

Most conservatives and most liberals (most people for that respect) are no different in that they seek information, and that they make up their own opinions. Political pundits tend to validate peoples beliefs.

Hope this helps.

What the hell did "NPR Free Market " mean?

Because the people running left wing radio tend to be Activists who have little or no radio experience, and don't get A: that you have to entertain to get a audience and B.They tended to hire people based more on their Progressive Credentials then their skills as a radio host and it showed.. Air America is a good example where they hired people when they started like Jeanine Garofalao who had NO radio experience whatsoever, and it showed. Some, like Al Franken did eventually develope skill, but others did not. Air America, after the debacle of the first few years, begun hiring more radio professiionals, but they never have recovered from the fiasco of the first few years.
Yes, the people running Right Wing Radio are ideologues, but they came from a background in radio and knew what would work and what would not.
I liked Al Franken, he was at least a little entertaining. His ratings were miniscule compared to Rush's, however. If liberals actually desired information more, I don't think the ratings would be so dismal, they would rather listen to music.

Re: earlier in this thread-You can't really compare radio to tv, Rush may be king of radio, but he failed miserably when he tried tv, and I doubt very much if Oprah could cut it on radio.

I listened to the whole bit and I found it a hard to follow. He was making a lot of bizarre statements of "This is Obama's america. White kids being beaten up.." I wasn't certain if he was making fun of people who thought that way or if he was some how trying to mock people who call anti-Obama rhetoric as racist.

It really wasn't a very good rant. It was disjointed and made little sense.

Yes, it's a strange paradox. On the one hand, as the rightists keep telling us, the media is dominated by evil liberals, proving how the right is persecuted. On the other hand, as rightists keep telling us, the media is dominated by virtuous conservatives, proving how the right is winning.

Yes, he's hilarius! I dunno why liberals get so worked up by Limbaugh, he's just a shock jock.
And also the official leader of the Republican party, Micheal Steele, has to grovel before him and apologize to him for disagreeing with him in any way.

He's not just a "shock jock", he's also in control of the Republican party.

He's not saying he thinks "we need to return to segregated buses", but that that's what Obama thinks.

He's still egregiously wrong, just not egregiously wrong in the way you thought.

I have yet to meet a Rush fan that is not a racist. Not just a bigot, but a racist. He's playing to his audience.

Why, oh why do people assume that just because I'm white and I'm a southerner, that I want to hear that crap all of the time? Can't stand Rush, and don't want to hear your racist jokes and politics...

Unfortunately there are many here that do listen to him who are not wingnuts. I mean it is a three hout show, he talks a whole lot. Not5 everything he says is so extreme, but much of it is.

But then there are people I call 'traditional' racists who have black friends. They say things like "All blacks (except they don't use that word) are xxxxx, but old Rufus he is a good guy." or they like black people and aren't racist but like the 'confederate flag' usually the alabama battle flag.

Now I have an uncle in law, he is a very nice man, but he hates for his wife and kids to go to the big city of 80,000 because of all the blacks.

Near as I can tell, the tone was 100% sarcastic.

Nothing to see here, folks.
Except for the fact that there is. He turned a normal fight between two kids into a racial issue. The cops said it wasn't racial. A caller called him up and tried to correct him. He didnt' listen. So yes folks there is lots to see here. Ignore all the idiots who thinks that he wasn't beign sarcastic because if he was being sarcastic why try and take a benign issue and try and twist it into something it never was. It was a fight over a seat.

Whether or not he was blowing the issue out of proportion is a question entirely different from the question of whether or not he was actually calling for a return to segregated buses.

Conservatives are trying to claim 'sarcasm' in an attempt to enjoy the same level of respect that Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have on their shows. It always fails. See, Stewart and Colbert are TRYING to be funny, and their shows appear on a channel called Comedy Central.

However, when you see Jon Stewart interview a political figure, he always, and I mean always, knows what he's talking about. The one with the chick on who was an expert on the health care plan that went into overtime and was continued on the web site? He really held his own with her at all times during the interview, when he wasn't trouncing her, and towards the end, he asked her if she'd read another report which she had not. Jon Stewart enjoys TWO things most conservatives don't have: intentional humor, and intelligence and knowledge to back it up. Your Becks and O'Reillys have bluster, and that's about it.

He was being sarcastic regarding the issue being a racial issue insomuch as the white kid being beaten was a closet racist (premise:all whites are racist). And the black kids beating him was doing it because they knew he was racist. And that leads into the comment they need to segregate school buses to prevent the racism inherent in all white people wont be inflicted upon any minorities.

Maybe the left then needs someone experinced, say Larry King, to try radio.

I don't really buy it because if he was being sarcastic you would think he would have actually told the person who thought he was serious.

He did. That is where I got my information from is listening to the show. His explanation to the caller is the same one I gave here. You can go to his site he has the transcript of the show available (have to be a paid member to hear it though, dont think anyone here is a member-me included)

There are few people I despise as much as that worthless windbag, but without even seeing the transcript or hearing the audio, I'm fairly certain he didn't express the opinion the OP is attributing to him. Come on people.

No, the people who can actually comprehend the words Limbaugh said and the tone thereof are claiming sarcasm, not because of some attempt to gain "respect", but because that's what it was.
