Republicans have choice between caving to Obama and shutting down Homeland Security

Indeed. Why can't they:

Pass a DHS only budget. That shows they are willing to work with the Dems (even though they shouldn't get any credit for passing a simple funding bill,which they agree with)
Pass the anti-immigration thing separately let Obama veto it. They can then claim he isn't working with them.

Why are the so *********** stupid. Don't they know they make conservative skeptics look like tools when they blindly support whatever they do.

Gee, that's not how I remember it at all. In fact, I remember Obama trying to work with the Republicans for many years before he realized that was not what the Republican Party wanted. To the point it really frustrated me. How do you think Obamacare came to rely on private insurers to the extent it did?

I think the outrage of Iron Man and some of the others isn't an outrage at not funding homeland security as much as it is a Pavlovian reaction to the leftist meme call-to-arms o' the week.

I wonder if brain mapping of someone with a true concern over that is distinguishable from someone outraging as a cog activated by their party feelorama.

The president (and normal people) want the Republicans to develop an immigration plan. Simply rolling back the Presidents actions doesn't count (to normal people). Unless someone is a moronic biased jackass, the correct approach is:

Fund DHS
Develop and pass an immigration plan

The only thing they've done is put a rider that would overturn the President's executive actions into the DHS appropriations bill that needs to be passed by Friday to avoid a shutdown. One from a few years ago and the recent one that they are all screaming is unconstitutional (its not and they're all dumb or lying for saying so). Not only is that not an immigration plan, it is quite obviously something that the President would never sign.

Congress is a complete joke. Probably worse than any in living memory. 100% of the blame of that goes to Republicans. Some people like to perpetrate a false equivalence that "both sides do,' or "both sides or to blame," or whatever. But that's a lie and pointing out the objective fact of how terrible Congressional Republicans are only means I am biased in favor of reality.

So John Boehner, to the surprise of no one, has caved and will allow a vote on a clean funding bill. Assuming it passes, it will be probably be with mostly Dem votes.

The Republican plan to overturn President Obama's executive actions on immigration was to attach legislation overturning those actions on a bill funding the Department of Homeland Security. To the surprise of no one with a brain, this plan failed. After passing in the House, the bill was filibustered in the Senate.

Republicans will blame Democrats for this situation and vice versa, but the fact of the matter is that after screaming about the supposed unconstitutionality of Obama's actions, Republicans are now faced with the choice of either allowing them to stand by passing a clean funding bill or shutting down Homeland Security.

As Senator Mark Kirk (R-IL), said, this is a “a self-inflicted political wound for Republicans."

Because they are worried it won't stand up. And it shouldn't. The Roberts Supreme Court has already ruled that there is wide discretion with regards to deportations.

But I see no evidence that they will ever stop. The goal is not to pass serious legislation, but to make political statements as advertising (to ensure their own re-elections and to obtain campaign money from wealthy individuals).

Of course, one might interpret that Homeland Security/Immigration bill linkage as a "real" attempt to force Obama to back down from his immigration policy. In which case, the Republicans who invented this idea could defend themselves as just stupid and incompetent, rather than as conniving.
