Proof of Life After Death!!

Cheers. :)

I have got up to the mid 2400s post-wise - Robin1 has become more clear that she had already visited many, many psychics, and also that, had JE not been successful she would have gone to many more.

So clearly her experience of positive hits was very far from inexplicable. It was pretty much inevitable.

This I think is a big issue with those who self-describe as 'open-minded' - it means they will keep returning to an experience even when it yields nothing.
So of course eventually... it does.
It's a shame you missed it. Robin1's claims descended to no more than "I have a fridge".

Darn, I'm late to the party then? And I had some really good questions for Robin.

I only got to post 1861 before I decided to skip to the end to see how it played out. And now I find out Robin has been banned. Serves me right for not visiting the JREF as often as I used to.
(Ahh the good ol' VFF days - Hey Desertgal :) )

Good to see you again, Ashles. :)

Robin didn't quite measure up to VFF's alternate woo universe, but she tried hard.
And she has a fridge.

Yeah, I know... she's suspended. So what? This thread has survived for weeks without her in the past when she took extended sabbaticals. And the thread isn't about Robin, as much as she'd like to have it so. It's about John Edward and fraudulent psychics of all stripes.

So, for lurkers' consideration and for Robin1 to reply to later if she wishes, I offer the following.

1. Robin1, "uuu" is not how you spell "Eew!"
2. I'm not buying the former coworker story. I call b.s. Why have you not remembered to pass on this anecdote prior to now? You put all faith in anecdotal evidence, which we're evidently supposed to clutch to our breasts and believe with all our hearts, but this "reading" with a bunch of clear winners (for people who believe anecdotes on the internet with no supporting evidence) you just sort of forgot about? I don't think so.

Torifrog, here we have Foolmewunz admitting John Edward's reading has "a bunch of clear winners for people who believe anecdotes..."
So, he admits he knows my story is a good one and some who are inclined to believe this stuff may believe it.

He then specifically addresses the lurkers (just in case there is anyone out there being swayed by me and my stories - Heaven forbid!) and proclaims he doesn't believe the story - I MUST be lying (implied but he later on admitted that was indeed what he meant).

And so, torifrog, instead of asking me why Foolmewunz is so worried someone out there might believe (to the point of actually accusing me of LYING), you really should be asking him.

I have no idea why Foolmewunz decided to describe this particular collection of unimpressive guesses as "a bunch of clear winners" but I knew as soon as I read his post that you would seize on it as vindication of everything you've been claiming and keep coming back to it like a dog to its vomit for as long as you continued to post on this thread.

How many PMs from lurking believers have you had so far, by the way? I'm guessing

None at all.

1. Even though the question got AAH-ed once, I STILL want to know what JE's act has to do with "proof" of "life after death".

2. I believe you are disingenuously (at the very least) doing Foolmewunz an injustice. Please note the use the qualifier: the phrase, "clear winners" is modified by the parenthetical phrase, "(for people who believe anecdotes on the internet with no supporting evidence)".

3. That some who "are inclined to believe this stuff may believe it" does NOT provide information about "this stuff" (JE's act), but about the kind of person "inclined to believe" in the "stuff" even in the face of contrary evidence and reason.

4. It is, in fact, suspicious (at least to me) that the goal posts keep getting moved.

5. Of course, YMMV..

@Robin1... bah-bye
@Pixel42... huh? surely you read better than to accept Robin's spin on my purely cynical and sarcastic point?
@SlowVehicle... yes, rather obviously.

And to recap Robin's HEAVY shot. (She thinks it's a heavy... it was also pretty apparent.) Yes, I was calling her a liar. I think she has a gladstone bag full of anecdotes that she's embroidered the bejeebus out of over the years and whenever pressed for additional proof drags another one of them out. Even knowing how faulty the human memory is, there were just too many times when her Big Reveal didn't work so she trotted out her fallback stories, which improved with the telling over the years, I'm sure.

It matters not. I just hadn't seen this strange exchange above. My post was back in May, after all.

ETA: Robin - I know you can read public sections as a non-member - it's always about the lurkers. You foolishly think I was concerned that you might be convincing some lurkers. You need to read it the way it was meant... I am deeply concerned about "bystanders", e.g. lurkers or casual readers who might discover one of these threads through Googling, say, "Proof of Life After Death" and be swayed by the types of "hits" you believe in. You're not going to be converted. I've said it many times: You are a True Believer. But anyone if we can prevent people following you down that road, we need to do so. This isn't about winning or losing a debate. You don't get points for converting gullible people. You get points when you PROVE LIFE AFTER DEATH. If the match is a tie because you get zero points for offering zero proof, then we win. We're the defending champion, after all. There is no life after death in spite of the best efforts of charlatans, thieves, misguided fools and True Believers to prove so. You have to KO the champion to win in this discussion.

I apologise for re-introducing it - I was catching up after not having looked at the thread for quite a while, and felt I really HAD to ask her how she'd come to her conclusions.

@torifrog - we're cool - I was just unaware that it became an issue just prior to her final departure.

@ All the lurkers who were planning to PM Robin to show their support - I know you're concerned because she can't read PMs now that she's been banned, but we here at the Foolmewunz Sigh-Kick Coffee Shop have a solution. I am actually a psychic. Not just a psychic medium. But a psychic medium-rare to well-done with fried onions on the side.

And for $3.95 a minute, if you call 1-999-G-U-L-L-I-B-L, one of my psychic lieutenants is waiting to take your call and will forward your message to Robin via our Spirit NetworkTM. Pay no attention to the fact that our psychic lieutenants all seem to sound as though they're from Bangalore. They are the real thing. Why, here's just a sample...
"I'm seeing an O. Is there someone here to whom Oxygen is important? Ah, it was you? The spirits say that you're so fond of oxygen you can't seem to live without it."

Of course. And I also knew how Robin would seize on any post from a sceptic which included the phrase "big winners" in relation to some of Edward's remembered "hits", which is why I cringed when I read it.

And to recap Robin's HEAVY shot. (She thinks it's a heavy... it was also pretty apparent.) Yes, I was calling her a liar.
And she knows perfectly well that she is not lying. (She's almost certainly misremembering, forgetting the misses and unintentionally embroidering, as you say, but she isn't deliberately lying). So the fact that, as she sees it, the "big winners" are so big that you can only explain them by assuming that she's deliberately lying when she knows she isn't is proof positive that Edward is the real deal. Cringe, cringe.

...No, that isn't what Darat said. Robin tried to circumvent her suspension by using Occam's account. He did not say they were the same person.

Ah, well, Apology had it wrong, then.
Still, using someone's account to circumvent a suspension is pretty low, all things considered.

So.
JE continues to rake in the $$$$ by gulling those who are taken in by his performance.
Any bets as to how long it will take for another victim of this charlatan to post up an impassioned defense of the fellow?

Well.. what do you know, Robin got herself banned for sock puppetry.

I stumbled upon this earlier today, and was just coming over to share it with her. Perhaps she can still read it from her lurker mode.

How To End An Argument On The Internet
http://www.wired.com/underwire/2012/12/alt-text-internet-arguments/

Love some of those. We should lobby the PTB to adopt some into the MA. I think I'll steal the idea of the link and start a discussion in FC, where we can let it all hang out. The article's funny, but it's very pertinent.

(Is there any way to make the screen smaller? The text is set on OMG are your eyes ever bad!)

ETA: I was just using your name in vain, but I see it was AAHed (for good reason not relating to yourself).

I find it very hard to accept that people can actually think like Robin1, with regards to psychics. But I guess they do. It's very disappointing.

Watched the video, It's like a vacuum of intelligence.

Sideshow johnny and the edit crew still fail to impress me with his 20 questions shtick.

Unfortunately, I get an error message saying that I cannot view it because I'm not in the U.S.

I guess I could use a proxy but... is it worth the effort?

Only if you are interested in further confirmation that John Edward and Char Margolis are awful at what they do.

Surprisingly, nothing like what the Occam twins posted appeared in the video. Entertainment gold dropped to the editing room floor is the only thing I can figure. No other explanation is possible, is it?

Maybe the spirits changed the video when you watched it...

If you go to The Norseman's link then click on the video on the side for Lior Suchard as the guest you will see something far, far more impressive than John Edward or Char Margolis have ever done. Lior lies, too, but he does it in the way that entertainers lie, and he is explicit that he does not read minds and that what he does is for entertainment only.

I suspect that were Robin still on the forum that she would find a way to ignore Lior's performance in the same way she ignores all the other examples provided.
