Prediction thread: What will the U.S. gov't do that most resembles the Third Reich?

to answer your question, it depends on the comparison and the context. i think, for example, when the admin scapegoats minorities and blames them for unrelated societal problems and gets called a nazi for it, it’s a comparison made to illustrate where that could lead and why it’s a problem, and that acting like that’s minimizing the holocaust or policing the terminology for its technical accuracy is kind of gay. why the term was used and what they meant is obvious

Counterpoint: Trump doesn't have a tiny mustache.

but i don’t think that’s what you were doing in this thread. in fact, as i read it when people were going down that road of justifying these comparisons you squashed it and reminded them you want specific predictions of future actions.

which is fine, if you’re just trying to have some fun that’s great. but i think that means i can make light of some things said in the thread if i want

Whether or not it was intended to be a joke thread, it is most definitely a joke thread.

The idea behind prediction isn't just to have fun, it is to make your ideas pay rent.

If you've ever bet on political prediction markets, you can usually notice that putting money down changes the way you look at the problem, less in terms of what you would fear (or hope for) and more in terms of what you really expect.

Well, let's see: The Trump-backed GOP funding bill that Congress passed yesterday includes an extra $500 million for food assistance for low-income families, extra funding for food aid for seniors, an extra $753 million for air traffic control systems, an increase in FAA funding, a large pay raise for military personnel and federal firefighters, a $6 billion increase in defense spending, a $13 billion decrease in non-defense spending, full funding of veterans’ health care services and benefits, and an extra $485 million to ensure enforcement of our immigration laws. And, last week, Trump approved an extra $4 billion in military aid for Israel.

Gee, this has Third Reich written all over it, hey?!

The last time I checked, Hitler ardently opposed the establishment of a homeland for Jews in the Middle East. Recall that when the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem traveled to Nazi Germany to meet with Hitler in November 1941, he wanted Hitler's support for the “removal” of the proposed Jewish homeland in "Palestine"--and Hitler confirmed that the “struggle against a Jewish homeland in Palestine” would be part of the struggle against the Jews. Hitler added that the “goal at that time would be the annihilation of Jewry living in Arab space under the protection of British power.”

Now, gee, who does that sound like today? Hamas. And, uh, which party in America has a bunch of people who demonstrate for Hamas and against Israel??? Humm, who would that be?

Anyway, more facts about the GOP funding bill passed by Congress yesterday:

A tiny fraction of what is needed, and nothing like was being g provided before the whole department was decimated.
extra funding for food aid for seniors,
Giving back a fraction of what was recently slashed by DOGE.
an extra $753 million for air traffic control systems,
That are not written and tested yet, so this will all go to Trump's tech bro donors.
an increase in FAA funding
Again, after the place was DOGEd.
, a large pay raise for military personnel and federal firefighters,
Already budgeted by Biden. So a rooster taking credit for the dawn.
a $6 billion increase in defense spending
Or under 1% up on last budget. SOOO generous.
, a $13 billion decrease in non-defense spending,
Contracts to donor buddies. Sweeeet.
full funding of veterans’ health care services and benefits,
It already was funded. Claiming nothing as a victory is self-delusion.
and an extra $485 million to ensure enforcement of our immigration laws.
Less than half a billion. A drop in the bucket when it comes to paying for the stupid wall.
And, last week, Trump approved an extra $4 billion in military aid for Israel.
Who is attacking Israel now? Must be somebody if they need that much aid.
Gee, this has Third Reich written all over it, hey?!
It sure has graft and corruption and lying all over it. So yeah.

Seems Hitler had a hard-on for killing Jews. This is news! :sarcasm:

No this is a blatant and obvious lie. Demonstrating AGAINST Israeli military crimes is NOT demonstrating FOR Hamas. The real world does not work like Trump's brain thinks it does.

Sadly many of these college demonstrators have vocalized direct support for Hamas and their terrorism.

Vocalizing support for Hamas is certainly the sort of thing the Grand Mufti and his German kamerads would approve, but it has nothing to do with this thread unless the support comes from inside the U.S. government.

Oh look! Goebbels is here to tell us who the real baddies are.

Oi mate! Get over to the RFK Jr thread and answer my questions about vaccines.

AGAIN...no. This is such a false equivalence that it is a blatant orange-faced in-your-face lie. Vocalising against Israeli terror crimes against Palestinians is NOT vocalising support for Hamas.

The diversity thing has hit all univeristies. it will be difficult to restore anything DEI after Trump, because it has hit pretty much all gov't supported universities. Omahs has the NE med school, so it is not just a minor branch of the main campus in Lincoln.
Nebraska State Sen. Loren Lippincott of Central City has proposed legislation banning Nebraska colleges from having DEI offices or programs. Legislative Bill 552 has a hearing in the Education Committee next week.

The University of Nebraska system has dealt with controversy around DEI in previous years, including criticism from Gov. Jim Pillen, a former NU regent, and multiple state senators.
With state politicians passing rules, it will be even harder. They banned critical race theory already under Biden.

Been away for a while and too lazy to go back too far in this thread, but I note in another that the Gump administration has rescinded the law forbidding business with segregated facilities. Remember as we fall from the roof of the building to call out "OK so far" as we pass each story.

I presume by now someone has mentioned the call for deportation of citizens as not exactly encouraging.

I've been out of the country for a month, and am considering backing out of threads like this because it seems hardly worth bothering with. I think we're truly and royally ◊◊◊◊◊◊, the worst is yet to come, and that, not to put to fine a point on it, anyone who hasn't figured this out yet is a bloody fool at best. This barrel has no bottom.

Honestly, did not see that one coming.

If we're talking about the same news item, it applied primarily or maybe solely to federal contractors.

Won't change anything on the ground, since federal contractors are pretty down with DEI in general, but you have to wonder whom they are signaling to by rolling back civil right era regulations.

White supremacists and the MAGA faithful, maybe 40% of the US electorate.
