Prediction thread: What will the U.S. gov't do that most resembles the Third Reich?

Safe to say the Reich wouldn't have allowed that to happen at all.

Are you predicting we might follow suit by legally barring ethnic minorities from civil service?
They want to spend hundreds of billions building a wall that will fail completely to keep "ethnic minority" brown people out. What do you think!

thought it would stand on its own but for clarity i’m making fun of the dei policy rollbacks and the ridiculousness of trying to justify that as a basis for ones voting choices

So…nothing on topic at all?

I'd've thought there was some way to link antipathy for DEI to the OP.

Don't mean to be rude, but aren't there countless other threads to gripe about GOP policy in general?

Why sidetrack this one?

i wasn’t under the impression you made this thread to have a serious discussion

Impressions are completely irrelevant.

"Trust your feelings" is fun for sci-fi, but isn't a good way to go through life.

I do not deny climate change any more than I deny continental drift or the Holocaust.

You know perfectly well what specific type of wilful ignorance the term climate change denier is used to describe, and your posts on this thread make it perfectly clear it is a category to which you belong.

Regardless, denier is still used as character assassination, bullying and intimidation.

It is an entirely appropriate word to use to describe any and every kind of wilful ignorance.

We have not yet come up with a reason why trivializing the Holocaust is so easy for some and impossible for others.

Using an appropriate word in more than one context does not trivialise the other cases in which it is appropriately used.

So far as I can tell, those who compare the incumbent administration to the Third Reich are quite serious about it.

Why should we not take them seriously?

to answer your question, it depends on the comparison and the context. i think, for example, when the admin scapegoats minorities and blames them for unrelated societal problems and gets called a nazi for it, it’s a comparison made to illustrate where that could lead and why it’s a problem, and that acting like that’s minimizing the holocaust or policing the terminology for its technical accuracy is kind of gay. why the term was used and what they meant is obvious

but i don’t think that’s what you were doing in this thread. in fact, as i read it when people were going down that road of justifying these comparisons you squashed it and reminded them you want specific predictions of future actions.

which is fine, if you’re just trying to have some fun that’s great. but i think that means i can make light of some things said in the thread if i want
