Political Oppression in Wisconsin

Ziggurat said:
I'm from Wisconsin originally and have seen Walker in action for quite a while. Kinda reminds me of Rick Perry, he's far too goofy to be taken seriously.

For someone who isn't to be taken seriously, his opponents have certainly wasted a lot of energy on trying to defeat him, without any success. What does this say about Wisconsin Democrats?

But back on topic: nothing you've said is an actual defense of the John Doe process. You realize that, don't you?

Don't know that much about them, sounds like Wisconsin has employed them for a while.

You might check out my prior post for the judges press release on John Doe 1.

I did. And? The judge is basically saying that he did everything he was supposed to do under the John Doe law. Regardless of how true that might be, it's still not a defense of that law itself.

Take it up with the Republican Special Prosecutor looking into serious allegations of corruption involving Scott Walker. He said this recently...

Statement from Special Prosecutor Francis Schimtz:

... His description of the investigation as a “political witch hunt” is offensive when he knows that the investigation was authorized by a bipartisan group of judges and is directed by a Republican Special Prosecutor appointed at the request of a bipartisan group of district attorneys.

I have chosen to litigate this matter in the courts rather than the media. Consequently, I will not address the Governor’s inaccurate statements (or those of others, including statements in the National Review article he referenced) about certain factual and legal issues now before the Wisconsin courts. However, I invite the Governor to join me in seeking judicial approval to lawfully release information now under seal which would be responsive to the allegations that have been made. Such information, when lawfully released, will show that these recent allegations are patently false.

Again, that is from The Special Prosecutor who led the probe, Francis Schmitz--a Republican who voted for Walker in 2012.

Gotta catch a long flight now... I'm going to read this:

The irony of the prosecutors complaining that they can't defend themselves because they are legally prohibited from providing the information they need to do so is rich indeed.

Nobody's legitimate interests are served by these John Doe investigations. Not even the prosecutor's.

This has been discussed in the other John Doe investigation thread. That Francis Schmitz claims to be a Republican is almost as irrelevant as his completely unverifiable claim that he voted for Walker in 2012. That he even would use that as a defense against accusations of prosecutorial misconduct is yet more evidence that he's a loon.

It's sad to see so much partisanship when this (John Doe investigations violate civil rights) should be an easy topic for both left and right wing posters to agree on.

I'm willing to party anytime!!! Just don't ask me to dance!!!

I know, right? Getting serious, it appears those on the Right simply have ignored the terrible things Walker has done and decided that you hate Walker just because Walker is a Republican.

I see that Chisholm wants Walker "criminally" charged with "defamation."

Holy cats, that guy is a complete scumbag.

I'm neither left nor right, and I don't know what Walker is believed to have done.

I think the tactics used, and John Doe laws are deplorable and represent a fundamental violation of our rights no matter what your political preference.

Would you approve of this approach being used against someone you supported, on the basis of someone believing them to be guilty of something, but without near enough proof to support a standard warrant? Would you approve of YOUR person's door being busted down, their home searched in this fashion, and them being directed to NOT discuss the events even with a lawyer?

I rather think not.

I said the equivalent earlier about Walker:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: but you seemed to have a problem with it then,,, Glad you got on the correct side!!!!! He really is an ******* eating scumbag motherraper!!!!!

I'm not really familiar with the events in Wisconsin, but I agree with Emily's Cat that these tactics are reprehensible regardless of the political orientation of the target.

I agree, the tactics that Walker has used are deplorable.

stops me if I am wrong but john does investigation are onyl ivnestigation. It is not john doe prosecution. They are done to avoid that the target manipulate witness and evidence, and that is a real concern with politician.

But one the investigation is done, as far as i can tell from what I read , this become a normal procedure with evidence and testimony shown to the defense.

If my understanding is correct, then this is no different from many normal investigation where you investigate trying to avoid the knowledge of your target. Only it has a special named law and procedure to it, and this seem very old as i see reference to this in the 19th century.

I get the feeling that the protest about that laws tells more about wow you feel about the target of that investigation... And if the political role was reversed a lot of protester would suddenly be far more silent.

In a nutshell: (in John Doe 2) prosecutors from both political parties investigated whether Walker's campaign and issue groups acted in coordinated fashion, in violation of campaign finance laws.

Then the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled the activities in question were not illegal. Takes care of that.
