Especially when combined with unlimited quantities of the beverage of your choice.
9 - 11 PM sure is smack in the middle of the evening, with not really a lot of time left to do something before that or afterwards. But still about two hours to bridge between the end of the reception and the start of the poker game. That sucksSince their peak times for poker are the weekends, I propose Thursday at 2100h for starting. Looking at the schedule, if you're booked into the Jamy Ian Swiss concert this could pose a problem, otherwise all players should be nicely schnackered after the cash bar and ready to gamble it up.

OK - sorry for my absence from the boreds for so long. I've been really busy at work, and no time for chatting.
We're only about a month away from TAM4 - I'm 90% of the way there with Stardust's poker room manager to provide us with 2 tables and 2 dealers for 2 hours for the little event. (They're happy to host us given that we're at the hotel and expect that some of us will be playing in raked games while we're there anyways.)

To confirm - we can have up to 18 players. Please reply if interested and I'll book it, Dano.
I would also be interested in hearing from someone who wants to contribute a suitable silly trophy / memento for the winners.
The game will be No-Limit Texas Hold'Em and I propose a $25 buy-in with no rebuys. (This means the most you can lose is $25.) 15 minute rounds, 500 chips to start, blinds start at 5-10. We'll pay out the top 3 finishers - 50% for 1st, 30% for 2nd, 20% for 3rd.

You just had a reception with a cash bar. How much more do you want to eat?Well, some of us would like to eat a little dinner at the Peppermill and 7-9 pm sounds about right for that activity--and after all, only about 10-18 folks will be playing poker, the rest of you have the time to go forth and do other things.
It would for me, but I suspect people wishing to go to Mac King would prefer it at 9 because then they can be back in time to participate.that said, would 8-10pm work better--still an hour or more to eat and Vegas never sleeps (but I do, I'm an old man...)
Hmmm...not sure if I want to sit at a poker table with a bunch of amateur close up card mechanics. But hey, since I'm a bit of a masochist I think it would be fun! Now I'm gonna slink off and see if I can teach myself Texas hold-em in the short time left....

It's real simple. Each player gets two cards for him/herself. Five cards are then dealt face-up on the table. The idea is to hope those five cards combined with your two cards make a better total poker "hand" than those five cards combined with someone else's two cards. Get it?
The five table cards are not put down all at once; they're spaced, so that in between cards being put down people can increase their bets (or not). Then when all the cards are down, everyone shows their cards and the winner wins.
The winning hands are the same - high card, pair, 3k, full house, blah blah blah, yadda yadda hibbity jibbity. You'll pick it up.
