Erm, if my memory of an attempted terrorist action in the UK is right (im thinking mid to late 1990s) then you need a nissan micra and drain pipes to fire home made projectiles fertaliser explosives parked somewhere near the runway. Fortunately this was somewhat conspicuous and arrests were made sharpish...
In February 2003, the British Army was deployed to Heathrow, along with 1,000 police officers, in response to intelligence reports suggesting that al-Qaeda terrorists might launch surface-to-air missile attacks at British or American airliners.
Chem-Trailers are not Al-Qaeda.
And mortars, especially homemade ones, would require them to get in the close vicinity of an airport.
And on the way there, they'd probably get into a fight between themselves what the purpose of chemtrails is...
So you don't believe CT's are capable of committing acts of terrorism? Ever heard of Timothy McVeigh?
He blew up the Oklahoma City Federal Building. McVeigh believed elite bankers, industrialists and politicians are conspiring in secret to take over the world, disarm gun owners and bring in a New World Order. McVeigh thought the Federal building in Oklahoma City was a headquarters of the New World Order.
We all know that these CT's are certifiable nut-jobs, but I don't think we should be under-estimating their ability to do damage. There isn't much that is more dangerous to public safety than a nut-job with the skill to make bombs, and it would only take a couple of them to attempt to bring down a jet.
Some planes are spraying something sometimes. But what?
How much a threat does vinegar poses?
I am very aware of that. But that is quite different from an airport. And if our airports aare safe enough to (supposedly) handle al-qaeda, an organized and funded terrorist organization with traning camps and all, then I don't see why we should worry about conspiracy theorists attacking airports or planes. Blowing up a building is quite a different thing.
And yet it does take more than throwing rocks from the end of the runway. What is the real threat here, if it is not MPAD equivalents? 30.06s? laser pointers?

I suspect that there's a fair degree of tabloid sensationalism had gone into this story, information on the actual 'threats' are scant and devoid of context, and the AFP interest wasn't in relation to the alleged threats, rather the pest like behaviour at the airport. Still, having seen how crackpots attack climate scientists I have no doubt these chem-trailers would have said dome stupid things, especially if they were being engaged on a forum like the article hints at. I just wonder snout the context, whether these loons really do represent a threat to safety

Unless you are referring to cropdusting, firefighting and other similar activities, then what is your evidence for this statement?
I have no doubt that sooner or later, a terrorist is going to get hold of a Stinger, a Redeye, a Strela, a Blowpipe or some other MANPAD, find a weak point in security near an airport, and attempt to shoot down an airliner.
If a terrorist could do it, I see no reason why anyone else (including a CT nut-job) wouldn't be able to. If I was the kind of person who would do this sort of thing and someone handed me a Stinger, I know EXACTLY where I could go, near to Christchurch Airport, NZ, to attempt to shoot down an American airliner or American Military aircraft. It is highly unlikely that I would be caught or detected until it was too late.
Fortunately for passengers flying in and out of Christchurch, and US Military personnel stationed there, I would never do such a thing.

Threat to safety of planes? Doubt it. Threat to safety of individual pilots, possibly. However, there tends to be a fair amount of security on and around airports.
