The 1000 are not needed there - or nowhere else along the Border - and, as my wife who is more informed politically than I notes: it is apparently not in the purview of the NG to arrest, consolidate or transport illegal aliens. There is already an organization around that handles that (Border Patrol).. It is a waste of taxpayer money unless we are expecting 15 Mexican armored divisions making an amphibious assault on TacoTico or Chili's. This ios just Perry trying to be relevant. Which I am sure he would forget to pronounce/use correctly in the middle of a speech (you can lead a pol to meetings, but you can't make him able to think).

TacoTico and Chili's are fifth columnists trying to take America down, I hope the guard will infiltrate* these places and ferret out the criminals.

Hey, Perry read in the Bible that Jesus said "suffer little children", and by golly he's going to make sure they suffer.

Perry is doing something border state governors have been doing for years - sending the U.S. government bills that have no chance of being paid. I'm not usually a Perry defender, but this idea of holding the federal government accountable for securing the border is a venerable strategy, albeit (probably) a waste of time. Personally I'd say, "Get over it, people, no level of government is a match for the economic forces that drive mass migrations." But then, I'm not a politician trying to manage myriad voting blocks.

If Senator Patrick is to be believed almost half of the murders in Texas from 2008 to 2012 were committed by illegal aliens. I'd have to think if that was true we would be hearing a lot more outrage from the usual suspects.

It's Perry getting headlines for another try at the Republican Nomination. He has only got a few months left as Governor of Texas and he has to get all the headlines he can between now and January.
IMHO he will do just what he did last time:Crash and Burn. He has a terrible case of foot in mouth disease,and the Powers That Be in the GOP will see he does not get within shouting distance of the nomination.

I'm just hard pressed to believe that Perry is serious about another run. I see this as more of a stunt to stiff Republican backs against Wendy's candidacy against Abbot for the Texas governorship.

But we're those numbers intended as a factual statement or not? And at least we are getting something done, like running the boarder fence through college campuses as it needs to be 1 mile in from the boarder. Makes going between classes fun when you have to pass through a checkpoint.

Presumably a program to keep communities secure would not release MS13 gang members, so these were illegals they felt were safe to release. There were charged with a total of 16,226 crimes with a total of 1105 charges for major or violent offenses.

In 2008, Michael Savage predicted that if then-Senator Obama was elected President, hordes of illegal aliens would rampage through California, robbing, raping, and killing good, decent Americans. I guess they went to Texas instead.

I think it's more a matter of accurately attributing the source of the discontent. One can argue that Obama should get "credit" as he hasn't done anything to change it. I suspect, however, that this wasn't an issue until 2008. Of course you are welcome to provide me evidence of Republican's complaints prior to 2008. Good luck.
